  1. When Anouk steals something, Ziggy will come and get me. He knows I 'swap' a treat for the pilfered item (it's the only way to stop her destroying it into micro pieces), so if he sees she's got something he expects his treat too (have to be equitable after all).
  2. Hi, my chosen breed is fairly rare, but I do know that the odd ones that do show up are rehomed by breeders. My breeder was actually involved in rehoming wheatens saved from a hoarding situation (that's why I love her, she's awesome). Also we rehomed our Ziggy after his first family weren't able to keep him, so if there are rescue Aussies and you would be happy to take one, put the word out amongst the breeders?
  3. I'm sure they are beautiful, but apparently a little more 'terrier-y' than the wheaten? Then again you have a 'red devil' Lyndsay
  4. I'm totally biased, but I think they are the most awesome breed ever There are quite a few wheaties who are doing really well in agility all over the world. I'd love to get my Anouk into it, but the one time we tried it she got bored and preferred to chase seagulls They are so beautiful in both appearance and character - true to their breed standard in Ireland they have a sense of humour!
  5. LOL It's nothing new Thank you for checking
  6. Something is missing of that map.... WHERE"S TASSIE?????
  7. Sounds serendipitous to me The 2nd breeder has the puppy available and you don't know if the first breeder will have a dog for you in the near future.
  8. Thanks for the information - always good to expand one's knowledge
  9. Thanks Lyndsay. Wheaties are born very dark too, but lighten up due to a brindle gene I believe Still never seen a Kerry 'in the fur'
  10. Do Kerry Blue terriers have similar skin issues? Just curious. Mollie
  11. No soft coated wheaten terrier either - long before it was a recognised breed. Wow, the Scottish Terrier has legs! Very interesting to see the different breeds.
  12. But the point is that it is more than that - while you're training your dog there are going to be mistakes. Commitment also means understanding that they will fail sometimes and you have to be there to pick up the pieces. Also at 16 weeks you may be in for some regression downt eh track. My boy was house-trained at 12 weeks and then a month later started peeing inside again. I was just about to say wait for the terrible teens!
  13. I can second that - and I have wheatens which are 'less terriery' that Westies. It took Anouk until about 11 months to be reliable and even now she'll pee in the garage if it's raining outside (little horror)
  14. He's just trying to be a better puppy - his name is Earl. Sooooo cute. I want puppy kisses
  15. I was wondering whether anyone could make me a signature of my two wheatens, Anouk and Ziggy Stardust please? I am a
  16. I'm so sorry to hear of Fraser's passing. May you find peace in the wonderful life he obviously had. I think he was a soft coated wheaten terrier or at least a cross of the same. He will continue to live on in your heart.
  17. Congratulations. What a sweetheart. I just love her dear little face
  18. Sooo beautiful! thank you for sharing PS I'll have the little boy please, I've been good this year
  19. I'd also put in a plug for the 'yelp' then ignore tactic. Anouk was a real nipper as a pup, but on advise from our puppy class we let her mouth our hands UNTIL she mouthed too hard at which time I'd yelp and turn my back on her. The rationale behind letting a pup mouth to a certain extent is for them to learn how hard they can bite without hurting someone - which may be useful if they ever feel threatened enough to bite a person as a warning. The yelp and ignore is what a pup's littermates would do if the pup bit too hard while playing. It's part of puppyhood.
  20. Mine arrived today Thank you. The dogs will have lots of fun with it.
  21. This might sound a bit strange, but when my Lucy died we were going to have her cremated, but we would have had to have sent her body to the North of the State to have it done and after we'd had her euthanaised I couldn't send her away. I just couldn't face not being there to look after her. She is buried on my parents' property. There is a large stone on her grave and I go and talk to her whenever I visit my parents. I took Anouk and Ziggy down to introduce them to her. It's nice there. We call it "Lucy's Place". I don't know how I'll feel if the property is sold, but I imagine it will be heartbreaking, but as I said, immediately following having her euthanaised I just couldn't deal with the practicalities of cremation.
  22. We had the puzzle pup, but Ziggy decided to take to its head one day, and now the poor pup has no head. Very sad. We also have the hide a bee which is a huge hit in the wheaten household (My wheaties love to de stuff toys.) They also liked the pull apart postman from Kyjen.
  23. About 15 or so years ago my neighbours had the most gorgeous shihtzu/maltese cross baby - he was bl oh so sweet. Thick as a plank, but loving and affectionate and simply beautiful I don't agree with deliberate cross breeding, but those cross breed dogs can't help the stupidity of people. Mollie xoxox
