thank you for all the replies,at the moment she is on optimum puppy and we are susspecting wheat for her allergy. I dont mind paying more for the eagle pack 15 or 18 kg bag which ever they do as this size bag lasts both dogs about 6 weeks but i do mind paying $95 8.1kg bag as this will be gone really quickly and i cant afford to pay this at least once if not twice a month and get food for clyde aswell the reason why i was also looking into barf and eagle pack

we have just got back from yet anothe vet visit with daisy. She has really bad ear infection again and bad flackey skin and it is all leaning towards a food allergy,. The vet mentioned about putting her on hills z/d but at $95 for 8.1kg bag that wont even last her week that is just way to much the only other option he gave was to possible feed her BARF but its getting it right. I spoke to the lady week got our rescue dog from hear in Perth and she has the same problems with her dog and reccomended eagle pack so i would like some views on this food and also BARF how easy is it too do both dogs are only about 9 to 10 months if 1 went BARF than the other would 2 they are both big dogs as well so any info i would be greatfull. karen

well its like something has turned on in daisys head since yesterday morning she has been realy good and doing as she is told first time the nipping seems to have stopped so far and she is just being great. karen

well daisy thinks it is great to bark at you when you play with her or show her lots of attention. But in the evening when we have 2 young children in bed we could realy do with her not doing this i am not sure why she does this as our other dog doesnt do it. Any ideas on how we can stop this. karen

hi our older dog tabu was sat by dpand so was our pup daisy daisy went tobite dp when tabu turned and went for her with a very loud growl daisy ran off towards me when tabu followed and tryed to pin her to the floor daisy than ran to my feet when trying to remove her our other dog than growled at her again i said tabu enough in which she moved off and daisy was able tobe removed so what i am wanderin is this just herr putting daisy in her place or should we be concerened that she did try to do thid 2 times karen

physical restraint i did NOT say why would i restrain a puppy thats is just not on i would never restrain one of my dogs i said suppervision as u go outside and play with them with the dog u watch from the window NEVER restrained i will not even tie my dog outside a shop i asked opinon as i have never used this vet before heard of this case of speying different contries have different views on speying

Hmm, I gathered from the way you speak of the behaviour of entire dogs, that you must be a breeder of many years experience, who has great knowledge and insight into the behaviour of entire dogs of both sexes. Guess I was wrong. For the record, my entire bitches get frisky when in season, but have never tried to escape or dig their way out. Neither have I have had male dogs attempting or succeeding in scaling my fences. And, I live in suburbia. It only takes a bit of common sense to manage a bitch in season, and the people who come to this forum seeking information do not deserve to beaten around the head with what YOU (LM) believe to be the right thing for them to do. Please let them read and learn, and then make their own decisions, rather than coming at everybody with a "desex immediately" attitude. No, I suppose my experience in dog rescue doesn't cut it for you, eh? I don't suppose you're confronted daily by the numbers of unwanted dogs and pups in the pounds and shelters that end up dead and at least some of these were because someone didn't manage their entire bitch or dog appropriately. When people ask the question here about desexing, and when they indicate that the advice they have conflicts with what they already know, I conclude from that limited information that they're looking for an 'average person' answer, rather than an answer aimed at a registered breeder, or someone that has a thorough knowledge of dog management including the management of entire animals. I may not have been involved in rescue and foster for a long time - which is true - but being confronted by other people's cast-offs does entitle me to become angry and sad that there are so many thoughtless people in our society that either can't or won't manage their dog/s appropriately, and therefore they're contributing to the unwanted dog problem due to their lack of action. When someone asks for opinions about desexing, I give mine. My position is that unless you're a registered breeder, there is NO reason to keep a sexually entire companion dog, so why on earth do it? I've had dogs for close to 40 yrs, each and every one of them was desexed as soon as practical and under VET advice as to the timing of the surgery. The advice used to be "wait for a season before spey" but that's out-of-date according to MANY vets today. Sure, there are still some that advocate such a position, but they're becoming fewer and further between. IMO that's a good thing. I don't believe in desex immediately IF the owner is responsible. But if every owner was responsible, how does that explain the large number of dumped and straying dogs that are impounded every single day? Hmmmm...can't be just by chance now, can it? I would rather see people desex their dogs young than be picking up the pieces of yet another accidental litter. There's nothing worse than seeing dogs on death row and knowing you can't possibly help them and that they WILL DIE today or tomorrow. Young, healthy beautiful dogs that don't deserve to die. Yet someone was "responsible" for their existence in this world at some point. I respect registered breeders and the work they do to improve their chosen breeds. But the average dog owner, the one that waits to desex b/c they haven't gotten around to it yet, or b/c they don't think it's that important, or b/c they're following well-meaning but misleading advice (for their situation) is the one that I aim my responses towards b/c I know there are LOTS of visitors to this forum and not all of them are responsible, well-informed, well-educated dog owners. well excuse me but yes i have done dog fostering and yes i have seen many unwanted dogs but i am not stuppied enough to allow any of my past female dogs or this one to have gone near other dogs when i season i DO NOT even take them out of the house they are ONLY allowed in the garden with suppervision so that they CAN NOT escape i am only trying to do the best by my dog and now i have people jumping down my throat i only asked as all our other dogs have had to have a season first or the vet WOUKLD NOT spey them next time i wont bother to ask the opinion of people i know may know a bit more than my self i dont claim to know all and never will

hi thank you all for your advice ok so after lots of thinking have decided to follow as we have in the past and most likely allow dasiy to have her first season due to the fact that its has been said it reduces the chance mamorey cancer. as she is in an indoor dog and i am home with her all day anyway i cant see her being able to get out with out me seeing her attempt to karen

Not true at all. It is always a personal choice and a good idea to do research before making the decision of when to desex, as you appear to be doing Karen. The idea that a bitch needs to have a LITTER prior to desexing IS however, archaic. Waiting until the dog is around 9-12 months old is not a bad idea because it allows them to mature physically with all their hormones still active. If you can keep the bitch contained when in season, I would wait. Others here will tell you otherwise. Keep reading and seeking opinions. she is a bull mastiff cross pitt bull who will be getting spayed all the dogs i have have been spayed as well i would not have one who is not. but thought for her size this was a bit early for her to be getting spayed as we have never been advised this before karen

ok so we finished puppy pre school it was done at the vets as we were there i asked about getting daisy spayed and asked her if she needs to have a seaon first and she said no but with all other dogs in the past we have been told that they do so now i am unsure as what to do for the best for her is it better to get it done abot 6 to 8 months they were saying or wait and let her have 1 season than i think i was 3 months we had to wait with our other ones before getting them done karen

can i ask why soaked buiscuit we have a mastiff x and ridgeback x should they be having thins done to one is 11 weeks the other 2 yrs karen

:D ok so i let daisy in the garden at 5am she did what she needed to than so far they have been coming back in little whinge back to sleep but no not today she dug a hole in the wall :D i know its a puppy thing but any way to stop this befor she does anymore. karen

we have one round the other side on the kitchen door and she hates it wont go anywhere near our other dog is the same but its not our house so probably not

ok so we have seen some great improvements in daisy but if i have to get up in the night to one of the kids (she sleeps in laundry with our older dog by there rooms) i tend to let them out quickly they come in and go back to bed she has a winge i go back to bed and ignore her but at 5am she can cry to go out and thats it she wont go back to bed and cries and cries louder and louder what can i do as if i leave it to long she wakes both kids up but would love her to let me go back to bed. also other question was thinking of putting her in there for awhile during the day on her own she is fine if our other dog is in there but want them to get a break from each other this would be a good oppertunity in getting ignored when crying or would this be a wrong move. any advice greatfull karen

hi yes that is what the instructour did to her. she is a 9 possible 10 now week old bull mastiff x pitt bull. was thinking of trying a water sprayer as thought at times it would be usefull. karen

since yesterdy a our 9 week old pup our has been trying to dominate our 17 month old and has tried our 3 yr old as well she will try to pull his socks off and he cries as he doesnt know what to do if they are leaning on the step in the front room or sat on floor she climbes all over them chewing them and scratcching them any ideas on how to stop this would be greatfull. karen

well we took daisy to puppy classes last night and she was good only one incident where she got a bit snappy with another dog the instructor told her no and she done the same to her so was shown what to do basicaly she turned her over and held her down and told her no and waited until she stopped than she went and played she said she is doing this to challange for top place and to be in charge she tried it on with me this morning soi did the same she didnt take loong to stop and submit. theonly problem we do have now is our 1 yr old will be on the floor and she will try pulling his socks off ad he cries cos she is doing it how ca i stop this as she has done it 2 timess today already. karen

well thank you for the replies to my last post i have since been out and got a clicker and we are working n her knowing her name sit and lie down sit she isvery good at and is also being got to sit before being strocked in hope to disscourage jumping up she is also asked to sit befor her food bowl is placed down. lie down she is starting to get slowly but is still doing well. we are also making sure older gets food first and she sees her get it first so where to now shes has puppy classes tonight so do we carry on improving just what we are getting her to do already or woud you recomend doing more aswell if so what thanks karen

her body language verys when she is jumping around playing she is happy and confident but whenn she is going to go for you she can be layying down or on her back legs cos she doesnt like to be stopped doing what she wants to do our older dog is ment to be a ridgeback x she is a rescue dog about 2 yrs old the pup is not a rescue the pups mum was still quiet young herself only just over a yr she had alot of fleas when we got her but they are all gone now. karen

hi yes the pup is 8 weeks she has only been able to get in the bedroom once but seems to be always trying to go under the sofa her behaviour with our other some timesis playing as she bounces around and wages her tail but there are times shen it is not and she growls and jumps at her face or like 10 minutes ago were i was stroking our elder dog she came along and started to jump at the chair so i put her down and said no praised when she stayed down etc but she than turned and started growling and snapping at me and trying to bite my hands when i tried to put her back down off the sofa so am now begining to think bad breeding but the lady had lots of people around and the dog was with them alot she also had 2 kids i wonder if they did something? she starts ppuppy classes tuesday will mention it see what they say also see if they get towitness it. thanks again for your help karen

hi thanks for your reply i tend to call her out or encourager her out but normaly leave her under there if she falls asleep. just need to watch how she is with our ther dog now as idont think she is too impressed about growling and snapping at her she did like to sit on the kids little arm chairs but started to not allow the kids on them so she is now got down when she goes on them.

we have just got a 8 week old bull mastiff x pit bull the only thing concerning me with her is that she will go under the bed or the sofa try to get her out she will show her teeth growl and go to bite we also have another dog which is a cross of 2 yrs old she is very good with her but the pup is starting to snap at her too can anyone recomend anyways to get this under control now before it gets a problem as we alsohave a 1 and 2 year old as well. she is starting puppy classes out our local vets on tuesday so hopeing this will help so any advice would be greatfull karen
