Puppy pads don't always work anyway, we had them for Phoenix and he knew he had to use them, but Willow just goes where-ever she wants to. I'd be relocating her to laundry as well.

I would also suggest getting the cat first. I had two cats already, and got a kitten in about Nov last year, he is probably about 5 months old now. I got a puppy about a week and a half ago. The oldest cat puts puppy in her place when she gets too rough, the second cat who is about 2 or 3 will generally stay away from puppy when she is burning off copious amts of energy, the 5 month old will not put her in her place and I have to intervene as I fear Willow is getting too rough with him, they get on, and when Willow is relatively calm they play nicely, but when she isn't that is another story. Having said all that, I have had two kittens with the two goldens, but they were already used to cats in the form of Zara, Phoenix and Lucan get on famously and curl up together, he is a gentle boy though. Willow is a wei, and I don't think she will be so gentle. It does depend a bit on what breed you are getting. What are you getting?

Fiona, I assume you have the XLarge crate for your GSPs? How much room is in there, is it really roomy? I'm wondering what size I need for my LH Wei, I expect she'll only be a couple of cm taller than my goldens, but my goldens have plenty of room in a 42in metal crate, just thinking if I could get away with a 36in. Willow is tiny at the moment.

So glad you could actually get a snake man to come take it away.... no such luck for me when we had a python in the house, had to get it myself... put it ina box and take it for a drive to the national park... tell you its freaky driving around with a snake in a box... in your car..... course... id take a snake ANY DAY over a spider. I would be too scared to try and get it away myself, I guess that is the good thing about living in the Sydney basin. As for spiders, I hate them too, especially the huntsman even though I know they are the least of my worries. I found a huge redback on Monday that I drowned in fly spray. We also found one a few weeks ago when we were cleaning out the drain, it had a sac full of babies on it. From past experience I will never spray a spider with a sac on it, we ended up trying to drown it in a bucket, well the sac came off but the redback can survive in water. Once the sac was off we killed it the old fashion way.

yeah, two men came and got it. I did watch, it didn't look particularly threatened at all when they took it out, it just came out, stuck its tongue out a few times and went slowly into the canvas/net/bag thing they use. Its head was so small though, compared to the rest of its body! That sliding door is the door that leads from the kitchen/family out into the dog yard, the dogs were let out atleast 3 times overnight (puppy house-training) from about 11pm until about 8am when I got up... no idea when it got there, but I can only assume its been there most of the night. I freaked when I saw it.

we'll be in the baby line-up together come March 20 :D those will be my little girls first shows (Novocastrian Ladies @ Hillsborough)! Fun, Fun!! I'm going to do some entries today (so I don't forget and miss out). Thanks poocow - I'll need all the support I can get! Hopefully you'll be out in the working ring before too long as well! No at this stage I will just be getting a pet. oooo, what breed are you getting poocow? -
Snake is gone thank god. I feel much better now. It was a bit of a delicate operation. Liz: We are at the base of the Blue Mnts, its a bit hilly, a couple of huge dams near us, mainly on the other side of the road, but a couple of smaller ones on either side. A few trees, but not a lot. There is a creek about 1km away. Grass is a bit long in the property behind us, but at the sides its quite short as either the goats and horses eat it, or the other side is mown reasonably regularly. Maybe I should get some goats, actually I like the geese idea.

It hasn't been very hot here over the past few days, just a bit humid. I know why its here though, the neighbour cleared most of the land behind us on the weekend, they are on 4 or so acres, cut the grass really short, it was very long before. Snake must of lost its hidey hole and is looking for another one. We don't have dams, but all surrounding properties do. We are only on 3/4 of an acre. Hurry up snake man!

Don't worry, last thing I want to do is disturb it. I agree, they are very beautiful, I came across a green tree snake once while in the bush, it just slithered away, I wasn't nearly as freaked out about it as what I am about this one. Something about there is a dangerous creature that could kill my dogs hanging around has me very nervous.

Well I couldn't get anyone to come out until today, but someone is coming at 10am, I spoke to them yesterday and said look it may of moved but it would be great if you can check the BBQ anyway. He said he'd come and check it and all the places he thinks it might hide. Well it has moved. It is now sitting in between the sliding doors (screen door and glass door), in the dogs yards. I am so glad the dogs sleep inside. No idea when it got there, but I must of walked past it a couple of times last night and this morning when taking the dogs out for a toilet break. Dogs don't even know its there. Guess I should be worried about all snakes, even the baby ones!

Really!!! I have bought similar wire to put along the bottom of the fenceline. Have only done about half of one of the yards. The snake came through the other yard. bugger, there goes my bright idea. thx for the PM too

The first guy I called lives the next subrub over, he's very close, he would of come out but he has kids at home so couldn't do it til tomorrow. Still waiting on a call back from wires. I also tried David, but his phone went to voicemail. I haven't left a message. We have dams everywhere around here, one in both next door neighbours, and a massive one across the road. No idea why this snake would bother coming here when there are dams everywhere else. I still think its hiding in the BBQ somewhere, one of my cats keeps going over to the window (the BBQ is directly outside it), he is very worried about something. Meanwhile I am trying to toilet train a puppy and I am too scared to let any of them out for a toilet break, needless to say, we have had two accidents so far!

I have been thinking about the snake repeller thing, atleast in the smaller yard where the dogs are kept when we aren't home. The bluey was at our last house in the burbs. The only lizard I have seen here is a frilly, and damn it was fast. No chance the dogs getting to that. Whilst you are waiting for help, play a Boom box loud with thumpy music and have the boom box on the ground, between the house and the area the snake is. they hate the vibration and often leave an area. Not 100% sure if it will work, but cheap and worth a try. We are Rural too..........We have peacocks, geese and guinea fowl to keep them away Our geese have killed snakes and if they should get bitten it is not so traumatic loosing a goose Lol, geese huh. Not sure how the dogs would react to that! Boom box may work, but then I'd rather have someone take it away then have it slither away only to come back again.

argggh, can't come out til tomorrow. Will call the other guy.

There was chicken wire, but with fairly small holes around the fenceline, but Phoenix ripped a piece off, no idea why, there must of been something on the otherside of the fence. I replaced it but they are big squares which could easily let a snake of this size in, if it was a baby I wouldn't be so worried, but I think its an adult. The previous owners said they have had a baby red belly here, but thats it. Doesn't help when the neighbours behind us (where the big hole is) don't keep their grass short. The other side have horses & goats so its usually pretty short.
-
unfortunately my two boys like to chase Blue Tongue Lizards, They will bark at them, it may have something to do with the Blue Tongues hissing and spitting at them once they do, But Phoenix will go for them if they do that. They ran up to the fence and watched it for a second and then ran down to the gate, this is where I noticed what the hell it was. They didn't bark at it at all... but Indy has been giving these barks like there is a thunderstorm coming (he hates thunderstorms) every once and a while for the past two days, I started to think he was going senile cause there aint no thunderstorms.

Thanks Winterpaws, I have called these guys: Sydney Metropolitan Wildlife Services found them on google. Waiting for a call back from the snake catcher, I don't want to waste David's time if these other guys can come out today.
-
Yeah, that's exactly right... I want to know where it is. I think I will leave it where it is at the moment. The only place I want it to go is OUT of the yard!
-
Your yellow pages will have wildlife numbers to call. Thanks, will try that. I am trying to keep an eye on the BBQ I looked underneath (from inside the house) and I can't see it, so I hope its still there, I'd rather know where it is than not at all. Thank god I am home!

Sheridan: I'm in Kurrajong. Just past Richmond, NSW. Will go close all the doors and windows.
