Hitting The Ring For The First Time

Welcome!!!! Poocow and Goldenwei do show training at castle hill...I think they do anyway...not sure who else, but I'm sure they will be along soon enough to tell you all about it!!! Can I request some pics of you puppy? Have met a couple of Lappies now and is all I have to say about that! Our third show is this weekend, and yep, am hooked too. I think there is show training at Castle Hill on Tuesday nights at 7:30om. I go to Luci Ellem out at Austral, however I believe she has finished for the next month so classes won't be happening until after ANZAC weekend.... Poocow maybe able to confirm that though, I didn't go this week. Where abouts are you located mentmint? Oh, and Welcome I go to show training at Castle Hill and yes it is on Tuesday nights at 7.30pm. Cost is $5 and goes till 8.30pm. It is more dog socialization that show training. It's not as full on as at Lucy's. We walk the dogs around, stack them, walk some more, stack them. Then we weave in between the dogs so that the little dogs can get used to the big dogs and the big dogs can get used to the little dogs and stop thinking of them as breakfast :D We continue doing this until about 8pm when we split up into 2 groups. Big dogs down one end and little dogs up the other end with the table. We do some table work, triangles and up & backs. Do this for about half an hour and then it's home time. I must say that the ladies who run it are very nice and if you need to concentrate on something in particular, they will do that for you. It is not just for babies and there are a lot of afghans there as well. There is also flyball on Tuesday nights at Castle Hill and they can get very loud, so this is also good socialization for the dogs. They tend to be bullet proof after a few weeks there. We also have the advantage if it is raining, we can go undercover in the toy ring. Havasneeze. Are they having a break over Easter at all. Luci is finished now for 4 weeks, but I think it would be good to get Willow up at CH for a couple of weeks. -

Ohhh congrats Keyarna. I have done two shows. The first I was nervous as all hell, second one wasn't so bad, still nervous but we did ok. For the stacking, my breeder told me to stick my thumb under her collar when I am practising at home, so basically I am holding her head with my thumb in her collar. Seemed to work. Of course you can't really do that in the ring. At show training Luci said to rub her tummy gently or rub your hands down her back to keep her from moving and keep saying stand. Bit hard to explain it. In sweepstakes last weekend she didn't want to stack at all, had her nose to the ground! In her class she was much better, of course I had yummier bait for her so that may of made a difference. Good luck with him. I'm sure you'll get there after a while. Just remember to have fun with him, baby puppies aren't meant't to be perfect, especially at 14 weeks -
I'm going on the 10th April, have entered Willow into Baby Puppy sweepstakes. I won't be staying all day though, we can leave once baby puppy is completed.

The latter to the case is my situation. I bought my second golden off the judge 12 years ago, and apart from one of two emails in those 12 years to let them know how he was going, I haven't had any contact with them. I seriously doubt the would remember me, or my face. IF we had a close mentoring relationship, then no, I probably wouldn't show under them, or get someone else to handle for me, assuming they hadn't met the exhibit.

Thanks tarakay

Can I hijack and ask something similar, you own a dog bred by the judge. This dog is not a show dog, you own and show a different breed of dog that the judge does not breed or show, can you show this dog under said judge. I can't find anything that says no.
-
lol. That's funny, you can get it in a small country town but not in the main pharmacy in Richmond NSW.

Thanks for the replies. I went looking for Ester C the other day but couldn't find any, mind you I didn't look that hard, just in a couple of chemists. There aren't many health food shops around here so I will try and have another look on the weekend.

Hi Spottychick. Thanks for the info. She is on Pro Plan Large Breed Puppy... however on the diet sheet it did say pro plan performance. It has 30% protein so, her being a large breed I was a bit adverse to put her onto that, so I just put her on Large breed puppy, which I think only has 23% protein. She is almost out of it anyway. I assume the vitamin c was to help her absorb the calcium better. That is all that is on the diet sheet. My 3 year old golden was on pro plan puppy for atleast the first 6 months, his coat was horrible on it though so I put him onto eagle pack, which seemed to fix his coat up a bit. I don't remember him having any issues with east-west feet, but I wasn't looking for them as such. His feet are straight now. He wasn't on vit c.

Ok thanks. She hasn't really had any diarrhoea. Not that I would link to the powder anyway. Do they have the same outcomes, ie, will they both provide the necessary benefits? Or is one better than the other. Should I not bother with this powder and get something else?

Dog Exercise Area In Richmond - Kurrajong, Sydney?
GoldenWei replied to FHRP's topic in General Dog Discussion
oooooo, I didn't know that, I have been searching for an area for a while but they haven't been fenced, will check that out (dogless) today. I am on 3/4 of an acre at Kurrajong, and the dogs generally have heaps of running when I let them out into the whole area (they are usually only in maybe 1/4 of that), but I think they would also enjoy a big off leash park as well. Thanks for starting this topic -
When I picked up Willow (LH Wei). The breeder has on her diet sheet to add Vitamin C Powder (Calcium Ascorbate Poweder ONLY). I bought the only vitamin C powder I could find, it says Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid). Is this the same thing. Should I have her on something else?? I initially thought that was fine, however I have noticed in the last week or so that her left foot especially is going a bit east-west, her right doesn't seem to be maybe slightly. Her diet sheet also says to increase from 1/4 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon at 4 months. She is 15 weeks now, and because I have noticed her feet I have increased it to 1 teaspoon. I'm wondering if I should be using something else or doing anything different. She is a show dog so I want to sort out her feet asap.

I have the same problem! So am very interested in what solutions you find. The play at our house usually happens at about 7:30-8:00am for a while and then again of an evening. If I am not home I can't control the barking. I *think* my third wheel is barking as he is jealous that he isn't being played with. But who knows. If he is buggered himself he won't usually get in on the act.

I HATE music as well, same with those cursor things. When I was looking at goldens, I really wanted to see about their health check status on each of the dogs profiles. So, for goldens I wanted to know their hip and elbow scores, if they hadn't been tested yet then something saying to be tested once dog reaches a certain age, also heart and eyes, ie. clear heart/eyes. I also liked looking at show news, but that is where my interest would lies. Nice colours on the eyes, nothing really bright ie fluro etc, nothing too dark, although if you have the correct text colour, dark colours can work well, make sure you can see everything clearly.

Driving Melbourne To Sydney
GoldenWei replied to The Spotted Devil's topic in General Dog Discussion
My parents live in Gundagai, actually a heap of my relies do too. I grew up there. There is a "beach" on the Murrumbidgee on the Sth Gundagai side near where my parents live, a lot of people take their horses and dogs down there.... having said that, I haven't actually been to it. If you get stuck for a place to stay I am sure one of my rels could give you a bed, or you could camp in their yard. My parents have a 1/2 acre block, but it's close to a pub so on a Fri/Sat night it's noisy. My grandmother and aunt both have huge blocks with few houses near them (they live next door to each other), you could even exercise spotty in the reserve behind their houses, just watch out for rabbits. We used to ride the dirt bikes all the time in it, and my cousin used to ride her horse. -
A bit off topic, but if your un-desexed male is 3 years old and still on Limit register, I didn't think he could be put onto the main register anymore... Think it has to be done by 3. I was going to do the same with my young boy, but I didn't end up doing it, just got him desexed at about 18months of age.

No you don't have to enter the property classes. Usually these classes are things like best head, best brace, best movement etc. Also usually they are listed out somewhere on the schedule so you know which property classes are available to enter. I'm guessing with a baby there wouldn't be any property classes for you to enter - unless of course they have cutest face. Good luckk at the specialty and remember to have fun. Thanks, hopefully there will be a few more long hairs there then just Willow. Yeah, that's the other thing, I wasn't sure if baby puppy's could enter the property classes... guess it would make sense if they couldn't.
-
Ok, I have another newbie question. This one is re property classes. In the wei specialty show, on the notice it just says classes to be judged 1,2,3,4,5,10 & 11 (dogs and bitches). Then, it says judging commences at 9:00am with property than breed. Finally, it says entry fees $xx members, $yy Non members. My question is, did I have to enter property classes? There was no mention on it except that it is to be judged first.... so how do I enter it, or have I missed the boat? All I entered was class 1a... for baby puppy bitch.

We won baby of breed, lol, by default, we were the only one! I was very proud of Willow though also. She handled it well and was very calm for her fist show. She mostly ran around ok. We need practising on the stacking etc, and I definately need practices on how things work. For example when we went in for our baby puppy class the judge said to do a triangle, well I don't know what I did, but it definately wasn't a triangle!!! It was good though, and everyone we met was really nice, I think we must of had NEWBIES written on our forehead or something -

Yep, will do. If you see us do the same Hope it's not going to be too cold out there at that hour, thinking of taking a hot water bottle to put in the crate with Willow!
