They should suck it up! No dog is perfect, if they dont wish to use the dog in their breeding program then they should offer it back to the breeder at an agreed price or pet home it. The dog titled easily, so must be 'show quality'. If the breeder wants the dog back then a pup returned instead of buying the dog back would be reasonable.

Great response! :D

Now that Frozenpuppies.com are no longer specialising in frozen semen where is everyone storing and having their semen collected? I want to get semen collected from my dog in the next month. He's been used at stud a few times this year and it's playing havock with his coat, if people want to use him now thay can use frozen semen until such time as I finish his Grand Championship. Every mating he has he drops his coat, just as he is starting to get it back, he is used again. so he is in a constant state of drop. I need a frozen semen company who have a distribution, collection and storage section. So what company is everyone using?

What clinic is Phil Thomas at?

As a estimate I work on Ag shows having an entry of about 300. Kennel club shows (not including Durack) close to the city or in major city areas (ie Maryborough, Bundaberg) about 600. Shows at Durack with local judges about 500, interstate judges about 750, international judges about 900. Big international judges weekends about 1200. Hope that helps.

Do You Have To Have A Prefix Before Mating A Bitch?
Wynnlake replied to Jsk's topic in Breeders Community
In short yes. DogsQLD will register the litter after the prefix has been registered, so long as it is before the pups are 18 months old. So long as the breeder is a finacial member, they will be fine, perhaps just a small fine. -
I'm after a Chiropractor for one of my bitches in Adelaide. The bitch is on the West side so would prefer something on that side of town or North in the dog area is fine. Posted here to capture the right audience. Cheers

Congratulations BCmum. Aspen is a lovely girl, you should continue to do well with her. Good luck for the next shows.

They Say If You Breed Long Enough You'll See Everything
Wynnlake replied to winpara's topic in Breeders Community
Wow, that is very odd. I would have been in panic mode. i'm glad all puppies are doing well. Congratulations on your litter. -
3 of mine are outside at night. We have a couple of acres so they have their own smallish yard (about the size of a medium backyard) as their night yard. It has shelter (1 Car garage), trampoline beds, crates and 2 runs within it if I need to separate any of them. They sleep here because I like my sleep and dont like the dogs to dictate what time I get up in the morning (when I get a sleep in), which they would do if they slept in crates or runs. I have 1 who sleeps inside as a pet, she sleeps on the floor in the bedroom.

I'm entered Alex, but wont be going as you know. Pretend your me and collect my numbers and catalogue. They were hanging onto my numbers for me as they wouldnt have been able to send them out in time before I was due to leave QLD. But go grab them so you can have the catalogue if you like. Should be under Mostyn/Baldwin -
Any time Sheila! I'm just glad I had the opportunity to witness the birth of these gorgeous dogs and the excitement and tears after the first bi black. Give Bree a pat for me and get some rest for yourself. Oh and BTW Tyson HAS rolled in something......

Thank you for your reply and so on this occassion this is not SARDS as the bitch has regained her sight.
-
Thank you everyone for your idea's. I'll take them all back to the owner and discuss these points with her, see if we can come to a conclusion. I'm very interested in anymore ideas people have.
-
Oakway, I googled SARDS and it mentioned it is irrevisable and results in comlete vision loss. This particular dog regained complete eye sight after a couple of months? Thanks for the idea, but I dont think it's that.
-
As the title states one of my puppies a few months ago went blind over night. The bitch 18 months old was blind for some time and her sight has been gradually returning. The owner now thinks she has full eye sight. I have only just heard about this through the owner of the stud dog, so I dont know the entire story. I want to be able to give her some ideas when I call her, at the moment the stud dog owner and myself have ruled out genetic reasons for this blindness (still happy for any ideas in this department) and have an idea it might be through some sort of poisoning. The bitch was on a farm when it occured, she was living in the country prior to going blind. Not long after moving to a different house in a different town the eye sight has returned. Environmental? Poisoning through a plant or food she has eaten? Chemical? There have been no other signs or symptoms, just the blindness. She has been to an eye specialist, who has confirmed there is a very slim chance of a genetic disorder but couldnt offer any other information in regards to what it could be. The regular vet and stud dog owner suggested Ivermectin? Dunno Any ideas?

That's a great idea delivering it straight from the syringe. I found these nifty little canula tubes at work one day, they are mixing canula's that are used in laboratories. They are strong plastic with a 'scratchy' bit on the end, so I guide it in with my finger over the tip. Works a treat and gets the semen in a fair distance down the vaginal passage. Reduces the time you have to stand there with a thumb up her and holding her bum up in the air. Great to know that when I run out of them I can just use a syringe. Miranda-thats classic insemination love it!
-
I AI myself, I cant justify paying someone $100ish to do it. I learnt from my friend and mentor. There are some great websites to help you out if you can find them. The collection part is easy, putting the canular or tube in the bitch is the tricky bit, they dont like it when it scrates their insides. And knowing the ins and outs of what temp to keep the semen and how long it will stay viable outside the dogs body is something you need to read up on. The more you know the better the result or at least the best chance to succeed. UTube is a great idea Missymoo, I would never have thought to go there.

If thats the case, you do an AI then a couple of days later you get a tie. Do you register the litter as an AI?? What if the pups are born early or late and you can't tell tell if they are the result of an AI or a natural mating? BB There is no need to register the litter as AI if it's fresh AI. It's only when it's chilled or frozen where vet intervention is needed and transcervical or surgical AI is required. Fresh AI with dog and bitch in the same location is regarded as good as and same as a natural mating. Therefore in answer to your second question I still start counting the 63 days from the first AI. I dont AI before the bitch is willing to accept the male. If a bitch is standing and accepting the male and you get a mating you count from that day yes? Same deal, but the AI has been done because something has put a holt to the mating process (bitch has a stricture, bitch is snappy and no co-operating, dog cant get it together, dog blows his stack before her gets in, dog hits and misses, the list is endless.) The last 2 couplings I have overseen there have been AI's for various reasons. One was because the bitch had a stricture and the only way to get a mating was through AI. We performed 4 AI's, bitch conceived and delivered 6 puppies naturally 63 days later. The second was an inexperienced stud dog learning the ropes. Bitch had been standing for 2 days, he was stuffing around not getting the job done, so AI'd. Next day slip mating, next day he wasted it on the floor. The following mating we decided to collect him and inseminate as we didnt want him to waste it on the floor. The following day we got a tie. So he got the full experience for his first stud. First AI and last tie were a week apart. The ultrasound indicates that the first AI was the one she conceived from. Regardless 63 days from the first AI is when I'd count from.
