  1. A special dog one or do you have a link to something you would recommend? These are the ones I mean, no particular brand, but the fine ones get out much more hair http://www.petnetwork.com.au/cgi-bin/shopp...;cart_id=268554 Well that will be cheaper than getting a furminator so will try and get one tomorrow. And I take it just a fine one not a flea one?

  3. Tried it and didn't find it all that great. I get better results with other normal brushes.
  4. Yep, this is quite similar to the "nobbly" side of the brush I suggested. Loosens the hair, picks up any dust/dirt on the skin and brings it to the surface so it can then be brushed away. Not so much in favour of the strippers/knives/tools etc that actually cut the hair because they tend to remove the waterproofing properties from the coat. My wife is a bit hesitant about the price because we have been told other brushes would work but they haven't. She is actually a tad allergic to dog hair but has been having special drops which are helping to make her quite good but it would be nice to just be able to cut down on there hair. She said she wanted to try one but I can't see that happening.
  5. So how good are these? They are expensive but if they work then my wife will be happy
  6. I am wondering what kind of brush I should use for a Labrador? I want to try and keep the amount of hair that my 2 labradors down to a minimum so want to find a brush that is going to help me get the best results. I find that my yellow sheds hair so much more than my black bitch.
  7. That does sound like it is going to be the best way. I will have to put them in another area so that they can't get on the couch.
  8. They do have their own mats. They will be in the rumpus room downstairs when we move in. But they like being upstairs with us. Yes she does touch the dogs. She had some drops which assist with the allergies but that doesn't mean she isn't a bit sensitive to them when she is touched somewhere like her neck when they accidentally touch her there. She knew that they would be inside dogs and she is happy with that. She would just prefer to keep them off the couch. The main time these days when they hop onto the couch is when they get up with me at 5am when I am on day shift and it is only the oldest one who does and she waits until I go to have a shower. I don't bring their mats up at that time as I don't want to make lots of noise and wake my wife up. No. We both share duties as I work a 24 hour shift work roster and if it was just me that did it then they would miss out a lot and my wife is happy to do this but for some reason she prefers me to walk them during winter (might be because of the cold) Yes she does want them and if you asked her that to her face you would get a mouthful of abuse just for suggesting that she doesn't. Yes I have and he isn't the issue. He doesn't get up and I provide him with a mat to sleep on and the older one as well. The issue is that Kaasha doesn't like getting up early when I am on day shift and isn't ready to get up but she won't stay in bed if I am up. She gets onto the couch when I go and have a shower. When I come back out there she is asleep on the couch. My wife isn't a bitch like everyone must be thinking. She loves the dogs to bits and loves spending time with them. She is even happy to bath them. She would just like to keep them off her new couch. Maybe when we move into our house it will be easier as I will just lock them downstairs when I go and have a shower rather than leave them in the room. I mean the shower I will be using will be downstairs (as I won't use the ensuite one when I am on early starts so as not to wake the better half) near the rumpus room where they will be sleeping of a night anyway so I will just shut the gates to the stairs to stop them going up stairs and then they will go back to their bed in the rumpus room or can lie in the bath room while I shower. I'd have to make sure the shower door is shut or they would join me though.
  9. She won't go that because the the rug would have dog hair on it and that would mean the chance it would end up on the couch.
  10. No your right I guess giving them the whole rumpus room is not really enough. What would you suggest? Maybe I could give them the main bedroom and ensuite as well? And they are inside because that is where I want them and they like being close to me.
  11. My wife doesn't want bedding in the lounge room as she doesn't want visitors to see their beds. She doesn't want them on the couch because she is allergic to dogs and they leave hair on the couch and she doesn't like sitting in it. Both are happy to lie on the floor when we are around. The female normally likes to lie at my feet. And seeing that we spend a lot of time in the lounge room when we are home then dogs like to be around us in there and it would be unfair to them to not let them in the lounge room which is open plan so includes the kitchen and dining areas as well. Its a 14x4 metre room and it is upstairs so not letting them up there would basically not allow them in the main parts of the house that we would be in.
  12. I don't think my wife wants a mat in the lounge room so I think I will have to find another way. I agree though a mate is a good idea.
  13. My wife and I have to Labrador puppies. One is 15 months tomorrow and one is 7 months. But they both believe that when we aren't in the room then they can hope on the couch. We kick them straight off when we find them but we are currently living with my dad until our house is built and he doesn't tell them off because they are stubborn and will get back up again so gets sick of telling them off. My wife has made it very clear that they are not allowed on the couch and that when we move then this is a big NO. Now my dad has gone away for about 3 weeks. So now would be a good time to teach them not to get up on the couch. So what is the best way to teach them to stay off?
  14. Um, whats a Bowen therapist??? Sorry bit slow.... And will they be in Tasmania???? I'm just going to wait till he has had his 4 injections then here we come water (then he might not try and get into my shower all the time )
  15. My dog likes nearly anything (I can't even eat without him thinking it is for him). I think maybe I'll just keep going the way I am. Keep him on the same food and keep giving him joint guard
  16. The breeder knows and was shocked when she found out as it is the first time that she has had this happen to one of her dogs. All the other in the litter have been ok. She has been fantastic and has provided excellent support. She has recommended the joint guard along with keeping him lean along with a number of other things
  17. I believe that it is Hills J/d but I thought that I read that it isn't available in Australia off their website. I do use Joint Guard now. Will have to see about getting it in from a vet or online (have found it online)
  18. I have been giving him Royal Canin Maxi Junior and he is having the 4 week course of Cartophen injections (he had his third today) and have seen an improvement so far. He has a good coat and and has always had regular stools
  19. I have 7 month old Labrador who has developed arthritis and so am thinking of feeding him Royal Canin Mobility Support but the vet suggests Hills Science Diet. Apparently they (Hills) also have one that is tailored to suit dogs with arthritis. So what do people suggest? With the Royal Canin will I need to wait until he is an adult?
  20. Don't worry I didn't take it that you were. I don't really think that he has grown that rapidly and he is the only one from the litter that has developed it. First time that any of the breeders dogs has developed it. I don't think I will start one because from all the research that I have done it seems that it could be cause by so many different things. It seems to be just one of these things that they don't really know much about what cause it. And again I didn't take any offence to anything you have written.
  21. If it is diet related then how come my other pup which is nearly 15 months is in excellent condition? Just wondering that is all. I feed a good quality food to both of them and have used the same food and never changed it.
  22. How much does acupuncture ruffly cost?
  23. Yeah they are sure. I have a very good vet and he is 100% sure. Yes he is from a registered breeder and I have let them know as we always keep in touch and she just can't believe it as this is the first puppy of hers that it has happened too. She has been great and came with me to see the specialist. She is paying for the treatment (up to a certain amount). She offered to replace him for me but I don't want to get rid of him because he is awesome. He was actually one of her show dogs. We had agreed to let her show him as he was show quality and he even one best of breed (baby) and best in group in his first show. She is glad that we took him as she knows how much I love my dogs and that putting him down would be a last resort (i.e. that we couldn't get it so that he could have a good quality of life and was always in pain). So yeah she knows. We also have had other dogs from her (have another 1 year old Labrador from another litter from her now) before. Very good breeder and the vet said that it wasn't her fault and that she had done every thing she could to breed quality and that these things can still happen
  24. Found one vet that does do acupuncture in Hobart - Sandy Bay Holistic Veterinary Centre
  25. I did think she was good. But she couldn't give me any guarantees that it would work and research is 50 / 50. North Hobart Veterinary Hospital is where I took him to see her. Will have to ring them about the acupuncture then.
