A utility trial incorporates paddock work and yard work. A farm trial is sometimes run in conjunction with a yard dog trial to encourage non trial local people to have a go and involves work that is usually done on a farm. If you can ever get to a yard dog or 3 sheep dog trial they are great to watch and learn. You can meet some wonderful people who really know how to work stock and dogs. Its not only about dog handling skills but being able to read your stock. The sheep are donated by farmers and they are not quiet sheep like the ANKC demand for their trials. Sometimes the sheep can be real buggers but that adds to the skill of the handler and dog on the day.

StockDog Clinic at Uralla was a great success. Due to lack of sheep, last weekend 11 & 12 July 09 was the first stockdog workshop at Uralla since Easter 08. It was a huge success. Robert and Jenny Cox gave us there extensive wealth of knowledge yet again and there were quite a few milestones made. We had cold mornings that quickly warmed up to beautiful sunny days. We had an undercover ring and the paddock available to use. There was another undercover ring available but it wasn't used on the weekend. So we have fantastic facilities even when the weather does turn bad. The showground made available to us a room to sit in on Saturday night which made having pizza and drinks much more pleasurable and a lot warmer than sitting outside in the freezing cold. This was extremely handy as Jenny & Robert continued on with a discussion and question time on the days events until we all went to bed at about 9.30pm. We had a good mixture of new people and people who have been before. I think everyone went home with a smile on there faces. For people who havn't been to a Uralla Stockdog Clinic, we provided tea and coffee (you bring coffee cup) with everyone bringing something for morning tea. So you can imagine what is on offer for morning/afternoon tea both days. We would like to thank everyone who helped on the weekend with sheep handling, filling up the urn, bringing morning tea, and pulling down the yards on Sunday afternoon. It makes the weekend so much easier to run with everyone pitching in. It was also great to see 3 young people, in Blake, Bec, and Rebecca who participated in helping look after dogs or handling on the weekend. NEWS: The Uralla Showground is looking at building a sheep race so when this is available Robert and Jenny will be able to incorporate some yard dog training into a workshop for people wanting to learn. Robert and Jenny are working on a date (in a couple of months time) for the next workshop. I will let you all know when the next Uralla Stockdog Workshop will be on. I expect the next workshop will fill up pretty quick. Until then have fun. Jenny Lark & Phil Laughton 02 66534119

We usually have the clinics every couple of months depending on when the instructors are free. I will post the next one on here as well so everyone knows.

There are still a few places left for the 11 & 12 July 2009 Uralla Sheepdog Training Clinic. The cost is $140 for the 2 day weekend. If there is anyone still thinking of coming or wanting more information please email me at [email protected] to let me know. Regards Jenny Lark

As far as I know they won't allow dogs in the motel rooms. You can try the caravan park in Uralla that is called country road caravan park. I believe that if you don't tell them that you have a dog in the cabin and it is crated and not allowed on the bed the owner/manager will turn a blind eye.
