Flea And Heart Worm Prevention

Is Advocate ok to put on a dog that is bathed weekly? Think I read somewhere that the ones you put on their necks can be washed off? -
This thread is a eyeopener. I use to take my maltese X to the groomers for her haircuts and nails because having black nails, I couldnt see the quik, but she hates her feet being touched so bad now that I have to use just a good nail file on her because if I try to trim her nails she gets very upset. I suspect the groomer has hurt her nails and thats whyshes like that now, because I have never injured her nails. I've since bought dog clippers and do her myself so I know she's ok. I cant bring myself to clip my St Bernards nails so I'm doing the same with him, (nail file) just a little often keeps them short and he seems to like the manicure lol

Its official, I am in love with my pup! I was grooming him and he was higher than me on the table so he started snuggling into my neck, them he licks my HEAD! Hes so wonderful I didnt even stop him...... hes precious! I figured hes so well behaved when I am blow drying him and hes veryu patient so I should let him snuggle me if he wants (lol) And growing soooooooooooo fast! Hes averaging about 400gms per day growth, amazing!! And I have never laughed so much in my life.,......... my other dog is a 5kg maltese X and hetakes her for a walk if we leave her leash on, its so cute *grins* (she dosent think so though) So endearing..............

Im dealing with this now but my pup is only barely 10 weeks, I think you have to train him not to bite somehow. Time outs to calm down I was told or ignore this behaviour and make sure he knows hes not the boss, well these are the things we are working on but my pup knows I'm boss, its my kids he likes to nibble on hehe....dont let him get away with it or he will think its ok to keep doing. Good luck!

Actually I think the cardboard box inside the crate is a brilliant idea but just keep in mind air flow, My crate (not using it now) has lots of ventilation but Boris still would get hot in there and if you add a box to the mix, you might find they overheat very quickly (maybe not too) Just a thought.

Hi. I also have a St Bernard pup Boris, 9 weeks old. I feed mine ProPlan, never really cared for Science diet. What did your breeder say to feed her?
-
Yeah I had time to think about it and IM not using it. I will use it as a regular kennel when we go to the shows but thats all. I'll just keep taking him out and hopefully he will learn, hes only a baby afterall.

I only just started today and the longest he was in it was 15 minutes, he'd whine and I'd feel sorry for him so let him out then he'd pee... you get the picture. Thats a soft crate I have, I didnt bother getting a wire one. I dont want him in it at all but when hes not, he pees everywhere and now the house reeks. I cant watch him all the time as I have a house full of people to look after and not just my pup! I think I'll just use it when I cant be watching him. Dont think he is in it all day, it does sound like he is by reading my posts, but hes not. Thats what I thought we were meant to do which is why I am questioning it.

I am trying to train Boris too. He is perfect at night time sleeping on his bedding in my ensuite and using the newspaper but during the day he is inside and outside and not in my ensuite so I have just put him in the crate in my living room. I dont get it. Is he meant to be in it all day? It seems awfully cruel. And he gets hot in it, he pants alot. Could someone explain it to me like Im 2, It cant be this hard! He does pee outside but also the minute you bring him back in he does it too so this is why I am crating now. My house stinks like urine... ewww........ and im a clean person! EDIT, I just took out the pink mat, its very warm and that was making him too hot I think. Now its just a large carpet, doubled over for comfort, plus his toys and water.

I think you must be a very nice person to even let her stay, If I knew someone had pets that were probally going to give my dogs something I WOULDNT let them anywhere near my animals, but I'm a Bitch so it might just be me. Do you wonder if your pets are at risk? She should try to find them homes that can offer them the care they disserve, she obviously dosent care *enough* to keep them in good physical shape!

Still biting but I'm sure it will be over soom enough. Hes so sweet and he makes me laugh like noone else can! Hes my baby! (I heard the hubby telling him he wuvved him lol) How sweet!

Thanks for your advice, I commonly do replace my hands etc with chew toys but the problem comes back every time I just wanna pat him, unless hes asleep! He see's it as a invitation to naw lol. Im sure its just a faze and his gums do look abit red and irritated so I dont blame him at all but knowing how sharp they are now and with little kids that are about the same size as him (lol) Id hate for him to bite them like what happened to me. My breeder advised me not to give him real bones because of the risks but I am buying him the Pal pedigree denta bones amongst other ones. BUT on a nicer note, he is a sweetie, I was very sick the other night and basically out cold on the sofa with my arm over the side , he had the perfect oppertunity to bite me but he licked my whole arm!!! He goobed me..... I was covered in slobber, it was so cute, I think maybe he knew I wasnt feeling well and he was telling me he wuvved me...hehe

Hi Everyone, Well the day finally came and I got my dog, Boris, he's a big happy St Bernard puppy, 8 weeks old today. Only drama is he bites sooooooooo much from teething and this morning after trying to get his collar on and him not wanting it on, he "sort-of" bit me but I think it was more the sharpness of his baby teeth sliced open my thumb, bled a fair bit too, his tooth cut me like a razor, I had no idea they were so sharp! I dont know how to stop him from doing it, I try pushing his nose down and saying NO firmly as apposed to smacking/tapping his nose but that seems to make him do it more, as does pulling your hand away or whatever it is hes biting! Hes a naughty boy.... lol Any suggestions for my baby puppy? (So Naughty but so Nice hehe) Is there any such thing as puppy teething gel? lol

I just went and bought Proplan. My breeder showed me how much better it was for my pup (which I havnt got yet) So the way I understand it is, it costs alot more but because its not full of crap and water/filler, the dogs dont need to eat as much of it so it basically lasts longer anyhow. And a few bucks a day is nothing for our family! We spend more money on crap every week, do you eat rice for breakfast , lunch and dinner? Why should they?? My friends dog died recently after years of liver/kidney troubles, That dog was allowed to eat the cheapest rubbish, and its dead now. And it wasnt old.. AND she spent a fortune at the vets, if only she had spent that money on better foods. I'd rather not own animals than have them and not give them what they need.
