  1. Done, hopefully the answers we write will be listened to. It would seem by the questions that they were probably written by someone who has no grasp of animal ownership.
  2. He used his giant feet to somehow get the zip undone!!! so it's been re-stuffed, for how long we don't know!
  3. Apparently Chev didn't like the idea of blondie having a new bed....
  4. I sure she will, she is the fun police... when he starts running around like a lunatic she feels it's her right to catch him and stop him! like it's not allowed in her garden unless she intigates it!
  5. This is Blondie, she is currently able to boss the young fella about, for how long we don't know as he's nearly as big as her!
  6. This is Chev, he is 6 months old. He came to us 2 months ago and has settle in nicely with our 3 year old bithc called Blondie.
  7. A little off topic but i was reading the other day that if a dog (either sex) is desexed too young they will encounter several issues; 1, their bone mass will be lighter, they will be taller (due to no hormones to stop the growth plates) and have a smaller head size. 2, the leg bones mature at different rates, so a tibia for example will be fully grown at 8 months however the femur (or whatever the correct terminology is) will not be fully grown until 14 months, but it needs the sex hormones to stop the growth plates. Thus resulting in a lot of joint problems mainly with their knees/ankles So when i saw the question to "desex or not to desex?" i though what will i do..? I have a male that i don't intend on breeding (too many dogs being put down etc..) so i thought that i'd let him fully grow as i've always thought that desexing too early would inhibit growth, then give him the snip. anyones opinion on when to snip would be good, wait 'til fully grown or earlier?
  8. Thanks everyone for your replies, it's just the more i read about kibble (even the "premium" mega expensive stuff) the more i get put off, especially after reading all the other threads on DOL. Is there a good quality kibble? i here evo is ggod? Chev (apbt) came to me pretty large..25+kgs at 4months..he was growing rapidly, i literally watched him cut his adult teeth in about a week!! he was on royal canin plus roo etc. and well looked after. But he does have sensitive skin, and i noticed on the SD, it looked like his hair was a little thin between his shoulders. (hence the food search) I had a staffie that went well on Science diet so thought it may do well for chev also, that was until i read all the negativity around SD and other top end dry foods. Chev is just on 6 months, 27.5kgs. (i'm not expecting him to be more than 35kgs fully grown as his mum was about 24kgs and dad probably 33kgs) he is slim, happy and energetic. He eats a little quickly probably due to our other dog, though fed separately. We add egg, veggies, meat, fish everyday to his food and his coat is responding. We have another dog who is on a basic kibble plus bones, meat etc.. and looks fantastic. boundless energy, good stools, and very athletic, currently trying to stop her giving the pup the run around so much as i know that pups can injure themselves and they love to play all day long!
  9. has anyone tried 'vetsallnatural' food for their dogs and how are they on it? i'm thinking of changing my pups food to this.
  10. Thanks for everyones input, it seems everyone has different routines, i guess it is a matter of what suits the dogs best. However my intention would be to train the pup now to go into a kennel he feels safe in and likes, (he is used to a kennel) and make it his, instead of letting him grow up and then being reactionary if they should have an argument, i feel maybe he would think it is punishment ...? and then wouldn't like the kennel. Male is a pup and female is the adult and quite dominant with him, mainly when he wants to play with her, otherwise she ignoes him, she's the same with all dogs until she's ready to play, and when locked outside they mainly sleep.
  11. Hi all, I'd like anyones experience on whether dogs should be separated when not supervised, even if they are best friends. One is a dominant female, the other a yound male, not at sexual maturity, so should they be seperated before so he gets used to being crated / kennelled. I'd especially like to here from anyone with experience with amstaffs / bull breeds. Thanks
  12. Thanks for your help guys, really appreciate it!! oh and when the bub comes i'm sure blondie (the dog) will enjoy getting to know him/her.. we're going to get one of those dolls that crys so she'll get used to the noise, you wouldn't know it but big bad blondie is scared of some noises, like plastic bags, plastic plates (though her tin bowl doesn't scare her..hmm) oh and my guitar playing!!! thnks agagin
  13. i think laundry is a good option, we'll try all i guess and i'm sure it'll stop. thanks!!
  14. Thanks, however our back door is always open right until we sleep, and last night i even watched her do a poo before she came in!!! She has never pooed in the house since being a puppy and the only times she has is when she's not been allowed upstairs,.... we'll revisit the house training, she's pretty smart and is a quick learner and responds well to our training, this is why we were a bit miffed at this pooing..
  15. Hi, my partner is pregnant, and we have started to make her dog (staffy/mastiff/pitty) sleep outside of the bedroom on her mat which she always sleeps on... She is obedient and well house trained and it seems that she is not liking being at the bottom of the pecking order by pooing at night in our living room. she is just over 2 years old, trys to dominate everything, this includes rubbing againt the couch, humping pillows (not often) and cuddles which are never cuddles in her opinion as she is always trying to gain a little, getting her head on your shoulders etc.. we do not spoil her and she listens every time to our commands, it's just this pooing we're trying to stop. As for now she's outside at night, except up here in the tropics the mossies are eating her alive at night. Does anyone have any similar experience or advice they wish to pass on?
