Should be entered in Junior Class. The age is always calculated at the FIRST day of any show..

As someone who is consistently answering phone calls re late entries - my very strong suggestion to you, and everyone else, is put them in the mail!!!! If it is possible, they will be accepted - and if not, they will be returned. We often get people ringing about late entries, and then they don't post them for days!! Best approach is to send them, preferably BEFORE closing date, but if they are late, be philosophical about it if you get them back!! I would think more often than not they will be OK.

A lot of people have read the post, but not very many replies up to date. What the club does is in your hands - let us know what you prefer!!!

The Committee of the Yarra Glen KC are endeavouring to make their double shows in March more exhibitor friendly, and feel that the best way to accomplish this is to minimise the time that exhibitors are required to stay at the shows. The best way to shorten the day for everyone is to consider different options for the judging of General Specials at both shows. We seek feedback from exhibitors, with their preferred option on how to conduct the judging of General Specials Judging General Specials consecutively for the two shows should take approx. 2 hours 20 minutes - and this is the option we have used up to and including this year... The Committee would like to complete all judging at both shows by 5.30 pm. The options we are considering are: 1. We judge Best Baby Puppy in Show (one place), Best Puppy (two places) in Show and First, Second, Third & Fourth Best in Show (four places), with the same awards at Group Level. This would mean that there would be no Best Minor Puppy in Show, Best Junior in Show, Best Intermediate in Show, Best Australian Bred in Show or Best Open Show. This option should take approx 31 minutes for each Show. Just over an hour for the two [2] Shows 2. For the first Show we judge all classes straight through and at the conclusion of Runner Up in Show at the first show we commence judging Best in Show at the second and continue judging both rings. The first show takes preference over the second show. eg: If an exhibit or exhibitor is required in both rings for General Specials judging in the second ring will stop until the exhibit or exhibitor is free. This option should take approx 90 Minutes to judge both Shows 3. At both shows a second judge who is licensed for five [5] or six [6] Groups to Judge Best Baby Puppy in Show and Best Minor Puppy in Show at the same time as the remaining in Show classes are being judged. This option should take approx. 1 hour 4 minutes 4. All General Specials are pre-judged prior at the conclusion on each Group Specials in the Group Ring. This would require the two [2] General Specials judges not to judge any Group Specials. This option should limit the time General Specials takes to judge 30 minutes for each show, 1 hour in total

What Time Do You Think Is Reasonable?
brentland replied to Ceilidh's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have also had people ring about that time in the morning - not happy Jan!!! Their excuse is that they have to go to work!!! Umm - I am not anyone's Show Secretary at 7.30 am in the morning. Can also remember someone ringing around 10.30 pm the night before the show! They had just discovered the bitch was in season, and could they still show it! If I had answered as I felt, then the bitch may not have been capable of being shown!!!! Same as everyone else, when the phone rings at odd hours, you think of family members being involved in accidents or something even worse!!!!! -

On behalf of the Committee of Yarra Glen KC, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the exhibitors for the tolerance and good humour shown with the extremely trying weather conditions, which necessitated the move indoors. With 10 judging rings required, it was pleasing to see that everyone was considerate of their fellow exhibitors, so that there was adequate space for all. Needless to say, running a double show, with 1600 entries in the one day, takes some organisation, a lot of assistance, and some willing workers... Yarra Glen KC is fortunate to have some outstanding talent on the committee - each prepared to go the extra distance to ensure a pleasant day. Both shows done and dusted before 6 pm!!! Amazing effort by all!!! Look forward to seeing you all there again next year!!! Gael Wilcock, Show Secretary

EF - you have hit the nail on the head!!! This pastime would absolutely grind to a halt without volunteers - far too many takers involved nowdays!!! I suspect it is the same in any organisation - people arrive expecting everything to be done, and the minute they are no longer required - they are gone! Let's not mention the complaints if it is not to their satisfaction!!! Can you tell I have had a very ordinary day????

Update on the status of Yarra Glen KC Shows tomorrow (Sunday). Due to the persistent inclement weather, and the extremely soggy state of the grassed areas at KCC Park, the Committee of YGKC, in the interests of safety to judges and exhibitors, have decided to move the shows indoors. We wish to advise that space will be limited, with 10 judging rings to be accommodated, so we ask that all exhibitors show consideration to each other, and use the minimum area for personal space. Thank you in anticipation Gael Wilcock, Show Secretary Please feel free to cross post wherever necessary....

All judging DEFINITELY OUTSIDE at these shows!!! As Dellcara rightly pointed out, there is not enough room for 10 rings and exhibitors inside. Forecast for Sunday is not too bad - a few showers, I think is what I read today. Fingers, toes, eyes and anything else crossed that the Weather Bureau is right!!!!

I can't comment about the others, but I will say that Luis Pinto Texiera was outstanding. He judged my breed - I wasn't entered - and I thought he did a very good job, and was a complete and utter gentleman. I have no problem with "good" judges being invited back - they will do different groups. The other thing that people should always remember, it is very difficult to get judges who are able to travel "down under" and commit to at least two weeks (with travelling etc). The organising committee have a mammoth task in contracting international judges - I don't envy them...

This is not a rant - but thought that it may amuse the readers!!! LOL Got a phone call this afternoon (28th Feb) "Was I still taking entries for Yarra Glen shows on 18th March?" Reply - "You mean Yarra Glen shows this Sunday (4th March)?" Caller - "No, the 18th March. That is the date in the gazette" Reply - "The shows are on this Sunday! That is when I am going, and that is what the catalogue says" Caller - "No - the 18th! That is the date in the gazette" Reply - "Don't think so! The shows are on this Sunday" Caller - "Oh - sorry, I am looking at a 2007 gazette" Reply - "Well, you are too late for that show too" I hung up - still shaking my head, but smiling as well!!!! I have to admit this is the first time I have had this experience re late entries, and they were just a wee bit too late!!! Like 5 years!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL -
For the information of those entered at the Yarra Glen shows this Sunday - ALL JUDGING WILL BE OUTSIDE - regardless of the weather. (which by the way is forecast to be mid 20's and pleasant!!) Cheers Gael Wilcock Show Secretary

The Victorian policy re extreme heat is each club's decision. There is not a blanket policy. Should the individual club wish to cancel their event, it is their decision, and should be on the Dogs Vic website the day before the show.

Rant From A P*ssed Off Show Secretary
brentland replied to Rebanne's topic in General Dog Discussion
Welcome to my world!!!! Time and time again, an article has been printed in the Dogs Victoria magazine re how to make things easier for Show Secretaries, but of course, no one reads it!!! I totally agree that it is not the newbies who make the majority of the mistakes - and incorrect sized entry forms are so annoying!!!! It is worse when the offender is actually a Show Secretary themselves!!!! I do trim the entry forms to correct size, and have been known to put the trimmed bits in the return envelope, with a note saying that I do not need these bits! An entry form in the middle of an A4 sheet? Groan!!!!!!!! I wonder if these people consider how you can manage 1000 entry forms of varying sizes.......... I posted the exhibit numbers for Yarra Glen double shows earlier this week, and I am still getting phone calls from people wanting to enter!! "But it is vital that I enter these shows" Duh???? How many ways can you say NO! These shows are now 9 days away. My rant over now!!! LOL -

"Suprised to find envelope with numbers for the Sunday show in the letterbox yesterday - definite meets the new guidelines of numbers a week before the show." That is not a new guideline - it has been a regulations for Yonks!!! Just that many did not take any notice - probably because it is difficult to post numbers out a week before the show when you continue to accept them until then!!! LOL

Kcc And Bulla Policy Says - No Set Up The Day Before.
brentland replied to Stolzseinrotts's topic in General Dog Discussion
I can assure you that a complaint was lodged by the ADI club re the early set up of exhibitors - ie prior to the day of the show. Whether the Management Committee will do anything about it - who knows? It is difficult for the show committee on the day to police this requirement - I would not need to tell you that there would be much verbal abuse etc... You know the thing about rules??? They are there for the people who abide by them - others just please themselves! -
Have only just read this - been a bit busy for a day or two!!! LOL No Giant Schnauzers entered - haven't seen any around for a very long time. cheers Gael PS - looking forward to a lovely day weather wise.
-
Have also been involved with reserved front row seating at American Nationals - good idea - and your seat is your seat for the entire show - whether you are sitting there or not! Re reserving spaces for marquees etc - Dogs Victoria has a policy where spaces cannot be reserved prior to the day of the show - or the first day of a cluster. This would be in conflict with this policy...
-
Quite agree with that!!!! A4 would be a pain in the ......!!!! There is nothing wrong with printing your entry forms by computer - just make sure that they are the CORRECT size!!!!! How hard is it to trim ONE entry form??? Easier than trimming 700 - 1000!!!!
