I don't like Frontline at all , I prefer Advatage or Advantix ( for ticks if your in a tick area )
-
I was using Aloveen on Ralph my itchy cairn ,& I recently switched to EPO 3% & I could notice the difference from the 1st wash wash , he now has now had 3 washes , I really recommend it go ahead
-
I cook some diced carrots & either peas ,beans or brocolli in the microwave for a few minutes How about raw meaty bones and meet, what are you feeding? before I started switching to the barf diet I was feeding him supercoat dry & my dog can & vegies he will not touch bones --- I know strange dog , which is one of the reasons I want him on the barf barf diet as it has bones in it
-
OOPS --- I may have jumped into the diet too quick I gave him the barf straight off ( with his vegies ) So now I'm mixing the barf half & half with his normal food & gradually increasing the barf ,I started this last night & I don't think he vomited today , if he did it was outside on the grass somewhere where I haven't seen it , He has about 20% vegies in his diet as per vet suggestion as he is a bit overweight
-
He's never eaten breakfast even when he was a puppy ,up until I started the Barf I would leave dry food all day just in case -- he never touches it -- he vomits of a morning after eating grass & there is just grass & bile in it

I've started my cairn , Ralph , on the Barf diet about a week ago , I add vegies to it as he loves his vegies , & I feed him of an evening , but since I started it most mornings he eats grass & vomits could this be a reaction to the Barf do you think ?

chepet replied to chepet's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I've looked into ordering the evening primrose oil shampoo & conditioner ,my problem now is , the shampoo comes in 1% - $ 28 & 3%-$ 36 (vet strength),I don't care about price as long as it works & puts him out of his misery - I have emailed 2 different places I have found that have it to find out which I need but they haven't gotten back to me as yet , which one do you guys use ? & do you use the conditioner ? I was going to use it as Ralph is a cairn with long hair -
Any Thoughts On Using Pinetarsol To Wash Itch Dog ?
chepet replied to chepet's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi guys ,thanks for your replies  ,his allergies are seasonal , mainly contact , grass I think ,he has no fleas ,as for supplements , I give him evening primrose oil & fish oil ,I capsule each squeezed on his food at night ,do you think that's okay ? I also feed him a tin of sardines once a week I've been looking for the evening primrose oil shampoo but I can't find it & no one seems to know it -
Hi guys , I was up at the chemist this morning & while I was waiting I noticed the Pinetarsol which is used in the bath for dry itchy skin ,& it started me wondering if it would help Ralph my Cairn terrier , he's nearly going crazy itching ,I've been using Aloveen , but I don't think it does anything ,his skin is starting to smell from scratching all the time , he has telfast pills daily but I am changing them to Phenergan tomorrow ,he has apple cider vinigar in his drinking water & evening primrose oil in his food -- he is on the BARF diet ,I can't think of anything else I can do What do you think of the Pintarsol ?

I have taught Ralph -2 1/2 -cairn terrier , lots of tricks , sit ,stay, high 5 , shake hands , play dead, hug ,roll over, dance, lay down.but I can't get him to fetch ,sometimes he will chase the ball sometimes he won't ,sometimes he get the ball but he won't bring it to me despite me calling him to me ,I need help
-
I've found the problem !!! It's the apple cider vinigar I've been putting in his bath water for allergies that has caused it I've bathed him without it & left him a few days & the smell is gone & yes I'll admit he is spoilt ,but I have a disability & I don't get out much so we are together constantly ,sometimes other than my husband I won't see another person for a week or two , I have been trying not to spoil him so much as I had to go in to hospital & he fretted badly so I have been trying to wean him off gently ,it's just as hard for me as it is for him
-
No ,haven't been able to figure it out . I've sniffed him all over it doesn't seem to come from anywhere in particular . I'm now thinking it's probably something to do with his allergies I'll ditch the tinned food , but he's a weird dog he won't eat bones ,he doesn't like anything big , he just sits there & cries & wants it cut up , eg .sausages ,I can give him a whole sausage ,he won't eat it , just cry until I cut it up , see my problem with bones , my husband says it's because he's spoilt , but I think if he's hungry he'll eat it any way it comes , he just can't seem to handle big food He caught a bird one day & came & dropped it at my feet ,he wanted it cut up ,I don't think so , I got rid of it -- he's a funny dog

Need Help To Stop Smooch Licking His Leg
chepet replied to smooch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
In the mean time , try cutting an aloe vera leaf & rubbing the gel on on the leg , it's very bitter ,it stopped my dog licking his sore paw ,you can get medicinal aloe , I notice you are Maitland area so am I , well Kurri , close, if you want some to try let me know -
I feed him a mixture of dry , tinned , table scraps & vegies ,it's actually only about maybe less than a cup a day of dry
-
I agree , we have tried heaps of things with our cairn , the only thing that works is an empty stomach & plenty of fresh air good luck
-
I've checked his ears & feet , they seem to be okay .how do you know if the anal gland are okay?

My 2 1/2 year old cairn has suddenly developed a doggy smell ,he previously had no smell , & within the past week he suddenly smells doggy , he is desexed , I haven't changed his food or his shampoo ,I have been putting apple cider vinigar in his rinse water to help with allergies ,but I just read on Google that this should help with dog smells - not cause them & as he lives inside with me it has become rather noticable ,any ideas guys , thanks

Hi, I my 2 yr old ( yesterday ) cairn terrier insists on peeing on the outside furniture on the patio instead of going on the grass ,this seems to occur mainly at night ( he has a dog door ) so he go out when he needs to ,or when it's raining ,I have bought various products to spray on the furniture ,which are supposed to repel dogs HA ! ,what really cheeses me off is sometimes when it's raining really hard at night he will pee inside instead of going out & he definitely knows better --he only does this at night when we are not around & in the morning when I see it & start to go mad he runs & puts himself outside ,HELP how do I stop this ,we are just coming into winter now ,so we are going to have a few months of this if I can't stop it ,as it is during the night I can't catch him in the act
-
Thanks for the apology ,I must admit I'm feeling a little guilty for having started all this & thanks to everyone for their suggestions

how do I stop my 7 month old cairn from constantly pulling ahead on the lead when I walk him ,I try keeping the lead short so he is next to me while walking & telling him to 'heel' & good boy when he's not pulling (which is not often) the thing is I have a spinal injury which makes this pulling very painful for me ,so if anyone has any quick fixes I would be most grateful ,otherwise he is a brilliant dog ,thanks
