Thanks , that makes me feel better , I was thinking leukaemia ( I'm a bit of a panicker ) we're off to see Michael (the vet ) monday , does Malaseb help these spots ? I'm still trying to download a photo ,my husband will have another go when he gets home tonight
-
I'm not good with computers , having said that I need basic instructions on how to post photos , & how to make the file smaller to fit -- which is the problem I found when I tried to post one on one of the forums here , thanks
-
I bathed him in the Malaseb & the rough spot on his chest looks much better already , the " bruise " areas are on both of his sides , I tried to download a photo but my file was too big & I don't know how to make it smaller ---- HELP !!!
-
hi & thanks for your input , I don't think it's hotspots , the areas are dry - not moist & are not irritating him & they appear bruised looking -- which I am quite worried about , he has 1 area on his chest that is about the size of 10 cents that looks like an eczema type lesion I have bathed him in the Malaseb , so now I'll give him the weekend to see what happens as for the Barf diet , we gave that up after constant vomiting for several weeks , he now has purina pro plan sensitive skin & stomach & he has stopped the vomiting & I occasionally make up my own barf the vet & I think his allergies are seasonal
-
Rayvik ,did you find the Ban -Itch , my dog has the same problem with his paws , if you found it , where did you find it ? Good luck with your dog , it's a hard problem , I've put baby socks on mine -- didn't last long !! same with bandages Tried aloe vera thinking its bitter he'll hate the taste & won't lick , no such luck , so I'll try & find this stuff

I know I have posted about Ralph ( cairn terrier ) & his allergies before , but now he has a new development ,I wash him in EPO vet grade shampoo , which was good for the first few washes ,( he had a course of cortisone early March gave him relief for a few weeks ) Anyway I washed him yesterday & I was blowdrying him as per EPO instructions , & I noticed 2 bald spots 1 about the size of a 20 cent piece & the other about 10 cents , the 20 cent one looks bruised , when he sits on my husbands lap , he will sort of scratch him , do you guys think that would cause this ??? He also had a couple of areas of broken skin & is back to scratching madly & licking his paws despite being on phenergan morning & night , I bought some Malaseb yesterday, I am going to bath him again this afternoon to see if it will give him some relief , what do you guys think ? or do you have any other ideas for me ? please Ralph would be soooo grateful & what do you think about those bald /bruise spots ? my vet already thinks I'm a fussy old woman , running in all the time for every little thing but he's my baby , thanks guys

Hypervitaminosis A is not so much of a problem with fish oil as cod liver oil, it is the liver with the high vitamin A content. I give my Cairn the contents of 2 fish oil capsules & 1 EPO capsule every night ,== is this too much ?
-
not sure about the gluten -- have to check
-
Oh ,I do give him a EPO capsule & 2 fish oil capsules every night & by the way he had been eating grass & vomiting frothy stuff for weeks I had posted about it I saw the vet & he thought it might possibly be " fur balls " from biting himself etc from his allergies -- funnily enough he hasn't done it since he's been on the prednisone & not as itchy ,so the vet must have been right !! & I thought only cats got fur balls
-
for the past 2 weeks he's be on the Purina pro plan sensitive skin & stomach
-
He is a Cairn Terrier so he has hairy feet & yes I dry them , if they are really wet I even use the hair dryer on warm as for "yelling " at him for chewing his feet I may have been a bit harsh there , he is told no , bit not harsh enough to stress him the chewing doesn't irritate me I just don't want him to make his feet sore
-
Oh ,forgot to answer about the raincoat --- no & yes gumboots would work better !!!!! love to see myself trying to get a pair ( make that 2 ) onto a Cairn terrier especially the back legs !!------- I think those ones you see around with the polka dots would look really cool
-
But he would need gumboots as he has sensitive feet and doesn't like to get his feet wet. He was sitting & chewing his feet 2 nights ago & when I went mad at him he moved & started chewing again ,then I went mad again so he went & & hid under the coffee table & guess what started chewing his feet again , because he thought I couldn't see him

Yes ,I especially make a point of walking him when it's raining , hoping this will make him more used to the rain , it seems I just about get him used to it then we have ages with no rain ------- then it starts all over again , I think he was over 12 months old before he ever saw rain to start with
-
I'll post this on here as I THINK it's the right forum , I have a BIG problem with my dog ------- EVERYTIME it rains he refuses to go outside on the grass to pee , he will usually pee on the back patio ( stamped concrete) ,I don't like it but at least I can hose it off I should mention he has allergies & chews his feet , the vet thinks the wet grass probably irritates his feet ,he is on predisone at the moment & drinking more & I take him out before I go to bed , what else can I do ? anyway , we are having lots & lots of rain at the moment & he has decided for the past 3 nights not to go out his dog door , he sleeps inside , & is now peeing inside & last night he pooped inside , my husband is furious & threatening that if he pees inside again he will be an outside dog , I know it's a problem but I couldn't bear my baby to live outside ,so I need help for my dog & my marriage

Oh- ok.. haven't heard of this before . So- the prednisone tablets will stop his itches... temporarily.. what did he say about the one bare spot, and the smell you were worried about? Was it perhaps from his Anal Glands? While prednisone will help with the symptoms.. they also make it harder to work out what triggers the allergy Hopefully he will be more comfortable now tho. the bare spot was from chewing himself , it was on his tail he'd chewed it raw , we are trying to work out whether it it seasonal allergies , contact ,allergies or food allergies , we tend to think maybe seasonal as he was better during winter , but as he is only 2 we haven't had enough winter's to tell I wanted the prednisone to give him some relief as he is totaly miserable ,it's only for 10 days ,he's going through the food allergy " run" , come winter if there is no improvement we'll make the trip to Sydney to see the specialist the vet mentioned which will be a fun trip as he also gets car sick yay I'm not giving up -- he's my baby I'll do ANYTHING for him I nearly cry watching him so miserable thank you for your caring
-
Hi ,we're back from the vet , Ralph had a thorough going over , he now has some prednisone tabs - the daily eating grass & vomiting frothy stuff he thinks is " fur balls " from swallowing fur from all the biting himself as he is very hairy , he said to give the pills a few days to settle him down & if he is still eating grass & vomiting he will do some blood tests he also cleaned his anal glands -- whew -- that was a new experience - both for me & Ralph ! if things don't settle he will send him to an allergy specialist in Sydney he's only been on this new food about 2 weeks & he said to give it at least 6 weeks - so between everything I'm trying fingers crossed
-
persrphone , I googled malasezzia & got some info to take to the vet , found a good site on yeast & dogs I'd put it on here but I don't know how , thanks for the tip , I'll let you guys know how Ralph gets on , thanks again
-
Thanks, I'm trying to do everything I can he's so miserable ,I've taken him off everything processed except for the Purina sensitive skin & stomach food ,I've only just wondered about the fish oil & EPO capsules if they could be bothering him --- I'm nearly getting paranoid
-
What is missing link?

how can you tell if your dog has a yeast allergy  Ralph ( cairn ) definately has allergies & I've been trialling all sorts of different foods etc but he's has this dreadful doggy smell he never used to have , I've started washing him in vet grade EPO shampoo which was great for the first 3 washes , now that is not helping anymore he has an appoint. at our vet in the morning as his itch has gotten so bad , he has no fleas at all , & currently fed on purina sensitive stomach & skin with an EPO capsule & 2 fish oil capsules per night & 1 1/2 phenergan morn & night I tried the Barf diet for 2 months but it just didn't agree with him & made no difference to his problems , so can you give me any more ideas or any ideas to tell the vet , thanks guys , Cheryl
-
he vomits of a morning , on an empty stomach , he won't eat breakfast ,hasn't since he was about 4 months old even though I leave food out for him , he eats dinner at night he's currently on purina sensitive skin & stomach & he does not throw up after that it's only morning when he will eat grass & throw up the grass & froth -- just a small amount but it's almost every day
-
I haven't been to the vet as we have started him on the barf diet ,for his allergies ,he started this vomiting about the same time ,I posted about vomiting then & was told it can be normal for a few weeks ,but he's had no improvement ,so now I'm trying the Purina sensitive skin & stomach food ,he's only been on that about a week , what I want to know is , do dogs normally eat grass & vomit ? & do I need to take him to the vet ?
-
My 2 & a half year old Cairn -Ralph , eats grass & vomits every day , he has been doing this for the last month ,he is well otherwise , apart from itchy skin -- the dreaded allergies -- should I be worried about this constant grass eating & vomiting
