No thanks, I'd rather be dogless, no offence to Pugs, they just don't appeal to me. I love big boofy breeds thanks, I'm only 8kgs heavier than my boy, but going by your post I shouldn't have him. Attitudes like yours will see the end of all big breeds, thanks for nothing, enjoy your Pugs.

It isn't a discussion if Hugh Wirthless is involved, it will just be his usual vindictive, anti PB ravings.

He's an absolute tool. I was fuming with some of the things he was saying on the 7pm Project. As soon as I heard he was going to be on, I changed channels because I would have thrown something at my TV & I can't afford a new one. :D Hugh Wirthless, wish he'd disappear off the face of the earth.

Because you are ignorant & illiterate, being dog aggressive doen't make a dog people aggressive, I am sick of wasting my time on people who are brainwashed by the media Funny thing is Mantis, I know two APBT breeders well and have spent time with their dogs who are all extremely placid and freindly pets. I have also played with them with my dogs and are as fine as any pet could be. However, they have also told me the same story that Whippets has just told us...........perhaps they are also not educated enough yet with the breed???. OH I believe you.

I disagree TOTALLY. These dogs have the instinct. They definately need level headed people who can train and handle these dog to curb that fighting instinct. APBT's and the like are not for your average Joe dog owner. I don't need any studies to work that one out. Anyway, I hope they can save that ladies arm. Poor woman Because you are uneducated & brainwashed by the media. Yes for a while Pitbulls were trained to fight dogs, but they also were trained to be human friendly, any dog who showed human aggression was culled. People forget that in the 40's & 50's, APBT were revered by everyone, used in American war propoganda, The TV show Little Rascals, the dog was an APBT, there are many hollywood stars that actually own them now Brad Pitt is just one. They are wonderful dogs if looked after properly, or a nightmare like any dog who isn't. Go to Cesar Millans site & ask his opinion on this wonderful breed. It would be nice to actually have proof that the dog was actually a Pitty, or called that for the media hype.

As usual too. many differing reports on the one story. It was her dog, then it was a dog she was looking after, she was 57, then 67, a Pitbull cross, then a suspected Staffy/Pitbull cross. A sad story & I feel for the lady, but you can see dog haters lining up yet again asking for all big dogs being banned. Yes mantis I can see the haters coming in here. It is the breed I feel sorry for. People are so quick to point the finger and judge without having to suffer the repercussions of their own stupidity & public outrage. These people are the detriment to our gorgeous strong breeds and unfortunately dog ownership is just not screened enough to protect the dog itself..... Yep & once again on another site I'm a member of, there will be a thread directed at me about this incident. These people never post about other breeds attacking, they just attack the Pitty, it makes me so sad that people are getting hurt by dogs owned by irresponsible owners & one breed is always the one being blamed. At least my sweet boy who is nearly 12 is safe, snoring away on his bed. The saddest part about this mantis is that even sensible dog owners are frightened of pitbulls primarlily because we have to trust the owner that is looking after the dog. How sensible were the owners of this particular dog? Well we don't know what caused the attack & I'm truly horrified why the dog did this, I find it hard to believe a dog would turn like this, unless it hasn't been raised properly. People are always telling me I am at risk from my sweet boy because of his breed & the fact he only weighs 8kgs less than me. People don't understand if you have raised your dog properly, with lots if love & training, you don't have to worry.

Gawd the RSPCA make me so angry.

and.......this is relevant how - just another putdown for the evil kids of todays society. Heaven forbid your child ever have a life threatening condition. I have a 7 year old with a severe peanut allergy (and kiwifruit, jeez, she's super abnormal). She eats peanut or kiwifruit - without medical intervention - she dies. Simple. Yeah, these evil kids who are a bit different than your normal kids. What a pain in the arse they are. I can't believe the hate in the tone of some of these responses - seriously, they make you worse that the "evil kid" because you're all adults who should know better! I'm soory for your daghters illness, my daughter who is now an adult, suffered from asthma & severe excema, she was allergic to a lot of foods, most were the ones kids love, like chocolate & cheese, but she never stared down an animal, she loved them all, OH she was allergic to animal hair as well, but it never stopped her going & giving an animal a cuddle. I think that maybe the autism rise could be caused by the fact, that hormones are used to generate faster growth in chickens, plus genetically engineered food, this has to have an affect on kids.

Me too, I would have told the little bugger to P off.

Totally agree, your dog was just protectyng his property, the pup (who I feel sorry for being hurt), was to blame, not your fault & you shouldn't have to pay. But with the media beat up about BSL, if they aren't nice people could end up badly for your dog, because of his breed.

I have replied to this type of thread a few times, but for the newbies. Kenny was the second born in a litter of 13, the first born was a huge bugger, poor Kenny came out not breathing & very tiny, I had to shake the fluid out of his lungs & give him mouth to mouth to get him breathing. Because he was so tiny, I had to hand raise him as his brothers & sisters used to push aside & beat him up, so being a South Park fan he just reminded me of Kenny, the first born, a huge white boy we called Cartman.

Cheers Tybrax, you don't know how scared I was when the Vet went away to test it. I should know by now, my beautiful big boy is bulletproof. He is snoring happily on his bed next to my computer as I type.
-
That is the thing, you can't let the dog win all the time, as then they think they are the stronger. Kenny loves playing tug of war, even though he weighs nearly as much as me, I make sure I win most of the time, so he knows who's the Alpha & if I think he is being to dominant, I tell him to "drop it", which he does. TOW is only bad if you let the dog always win.
-
ive had plenty of little kids come of to pat my APBT, i dont even have to think twice about her nipping ect, and like you sed, you can take food right out of her mouth with no issue. Kenny from a very young age, would immediately drop when a child approached him, I never taught him that & was totally amazed that he did it, to this day as on old bugger, as soon as he sees a child he drops down, wags his tail just waiting for a pat. They weren't called the "Nanny breed" for no reason.
-
On "It's me or the dog" on the weekend, they had an APBT X, owners were morons who didn't train it, it wasn't aggressive, except to their furniture when left alone. What I loved was, at one of the breaks they asked a question about the breed. The question was why are they called the "Nanny breed"? answer, because they are so tolerant to children. Then we have Cesars "Daddy" another example of what wonderful dogs they are in the right hands like any breeds.
-
I'd rather be attacked by a chihuahua than an APBT. Me too !! Well Mum to Emma, people like you make me ashamed of dog people & fear that with attitudes like yours, that eventually all pet dogs will be banned. Because after they get rid of the nasty APBT's & people are stll being bitten, then all large breeds of dogs, then medium dogs & lastly, yes your little dogs, it's a slippery slope & you should be ashamed if you are a true dog lover.

Well done to you being responsible. Being a big dog owner, I keep Kenny inside just in case some irresponsible owner of any size dog, let's it wander & get into my backyard, because I know who the authorities & media will blame. Edit: Still waiting for Mum to Emma to say what dogs she has, I have a fair idea, just waiting for confirmation. -

She's a Senator, the only legislation I have seen people concerned about lately is all state so why would she be relevant? The only Commonwealth dog legislation I am aware of is the import bans. But if you want to contact her all her details will be on aph.gov.au (parliament house site) I don't want to contact her at the moment (nothing to say), but figure it's handy to know who's a dog-nut and who's not in the political World for future reference. I did not know she was federal, please forgive my ignorance. Virtually all BSL is based on Federal Government Import restrictions banning breeds banned from importation into Australia. Lift them and BSL ends overnight. Senator Kroger could be the poster girl for deed not breed. Remains to be seen if she has the courage to take on the role or just be another party hack. Another post that is very damaging to your cause. This topic is about a dog owner that has failed to contained their dog in their yard, not BSL. You'll need to convince a hell of a lot more than just one member of parliament and the emphasis is on the word "convince". Not throw out a challenge in one sentence and follow it up with an insult. I agree it was, until another dog person put all the blame on big dogs, that is what fuels BSL, let's stop putting the blame on size, or breeds of dogs & put it where it belongs, stupid, irresponsible owners. Then all dogs can live in peace, like they used to. -
Thanks, by the way I gave Kenny a big pat & got a sloppy lick in return, so I guess that's his reply to you. My daughter is a sweety, she loves Kenny & all animals, she donates so much money to various animal causes, she would love a pet of her own, but her partner won't let her have one. (mummy keeps her mouth shut & says nothing, but dear dog I wish I could).
-
He's already old, but he isn't overweight really, just chunky, he doesn't get overfed, or given junk foods, but then his Dad was a Neo Mastiff, so his bodyshape isn't too out there, plus Kenny has never been a dog overly fond of exercising.

As long as your fence is in good repair & secure enough to keep your dogs in, you most certainly are guilt free, as are your dogs. When two wayward cats ventured into my backyard over a few years & met an untimely death, I was worried that if an owner complained about the incident, what would it mean for Kenny & myself so I rang the Ranger. He said nothing would happen, because I had a secure yard & the cats were intruders. Not long after a Husky X jumped my 7ft side fence into my backyard, fortunately Kenny was inside. It jumped back over the fence when I went to investigate the noise & I became very worried what would happen if it did it when Kenny was outside. Again the Ranger said nothing, as I had taken all precautions & the other dog was the intruder. We should not have to cage our dogs because of irresponsible owners, how about educating people on responsible dog ownership instead & make harsher penalties for irresponsible morons.
