I am under a lot of stress because of money worries, but no excuse with what I did tonight. I came home tonight to find Kenny had chewed & scattered my socks & undies every where, he hasn't done that for three years, I thought seeing as he was nearly twelve he wouldn't do it any more. So I got really angry & yelled at him so much, that he rolled on his side & had a scared look on his face, I immediately saw how much he was upset, so I tried cuddling him to say I was sorry, but he pulled away & still two hours later, he won't let me pat or cuddle him without pulling away. How can I let him know that I still love him, even though I lost the plot?

I thought this dog was still alive and recovering. Where does it say the dog died? That is good news I thought he died, that makes me a little happier.
-
He didn't leave it in the front yard, the dog got out of the temporary fencing. When I lived in Perth & was renting, my side fence got blown down, the RE agenst said it ccould take a couple of weeks to get fixed, so I paid to have temporary fencing put up, it took six damn weeks until the owner of the house got the fence fixed. I was just lucjy that my neighbout knew Kenny when he got out & took him to my place & [ut him inside. This poor dead dog obviously wasn't vicious, otherwise you would have neighbours complaining about it, plus with the follow up story, the attacker sounds like a real charmer.
-
Then give your dog a big hug & cuddles.

Until I lived in the house I am currently renting, I used to have the back door open so Kenny could go in & out as he pleaed, but this place has bad fencing, so Kenny could get out in the street, so he is inside when I am out & only in the backyard when I am with him.

That's the best one.

RIP good samaritan & doggy. I guess I have been lucky twice helping an injured animal. The first was when a dog fell off the back of a ute, I managed to stop before hitting him, I went & picked him up & took him to the Vet which luckily was only 10 minutes away, the dog survived thankfully. The second time, I was in peak hour traffic at 8am in the morning on Victoria Parade, Melbourne, the car in front of me hit a possum, I stopped again & went & picked him up & put him in my car, he didn't have any signs of blood, or feel pain, so I took him to work with me, I kept the little bugger for 2 months, luckily I lived in the hills, so when I thought he was OK, I left the bathroom window open, the next day he was gone, but he came around for a feed every night after I got home from work. When you see an injured animal you don't think about the risk to yourself, you are only concerned with the injured animal.

I know I will get flamed for this, but when a dog hurts a human, they are instantly put down, yet these mongrel humans get a slap on the wrist max, I want people who do these things to animals jailed, not a $1,000 fine.

I have never had problems with fleas since I started using Sentinel Spectrum 11 years ago. :nahnah:

People never believed me when I told them how I caught the TV stations out over reporting dog attacks, I only wish I had their resources so I could have taped them trying to get me to say it was a Pitbull, or Pitbull cross, instead of a "insert so called safe breed". Then when I refused to change the breed, they said they weren't interested in the story, as they already had enough content for the news. :nahnah: Anyone who still doesn't believe me, try it for yourself & if you are able, record what they say.
-
I think Mini Pin X Chi, because he is so tiny.
-
Yep, the media are only interested in attacks by APBT's, or any dog that looks like one, sells more papers & higher TV ratings, which is why the brainwashed public think they are killing machines on legs.
-
Agree. Yesterday morning I was waiting for the bus on a very busy road, when a guy walked past with his JRT off lead. I didn't even see a lead in his hand, I can't help myself, as I have seen too many "safe" dogs run over, so I said to him, put your dog on a lead, it is an accident waiting to happen, well his response was a mouthful of expletives & he ended with giving me the finger.
-
Agree, it's quite obvious they were junkies, or alcoholics, just a shame a child & dog have died because of all the idiots.

Asserting that my dog breed(s) are better than any cross bred at their purpose bred task is not being a snob, it is stating a fact. Exactly. You left out the part of your post, where you called them ignoramuses & laugh at them, that is not only snobbery, but down right rude. As I posted earlier, I have owned, bred & shown purebreds, but my heart dog is my boy I have now, yes he is a crossbreed, but I knew his mother & grandmother, didn't know any further on because his grandmother was imported from America, I knew his father, but not his grandfather, because his father was imported from England, but I have seen their pedigrees. My "mutt" I have now, is the most loving & loyal dog I have ever owned.
-
You are aware that a lot of breeds started out as crosses, until they eventually got accepted as a purebred? :D hence the 1000 years selective breeding bit A lot haven't been a purebreed that long.
-
You cant saw sawdust. Enjoy your dogs and walk on When I hear somone tell me that they can get a crossbred rescue dog / byb that can do the job my dogs can do, I just laugh because they dont know what they are talking about; I dont get mad kind of pity the little ignoramuses. Oooh! how norty of me ... I'm sounding like a snob - so what? Show me a cross bred byb rescue whatever that has the capabilty and is as sound pound for pound and then you might get my attention. But frankly, 1000 years selective breeding tempered by the elements - Vs some numpty nanosecond cross breeding idea: not likely Your attitude is exactly the reason some purebreed owners are called snobs. You are aware that a lot of breeds started out as crosses, until they eventually got accepted as a purebred? :D
-
It's a sad state of mind many people tend to have. 'hmph, I'm not going to be a bloody snob! I'll just go next door and get a pup out of flossy the bitzer!' Maybe they get called a snob, because they look down on people who own crosses.
-
But did you then continue to leave your dog in a yard that you knew wasn't fully fenced? No one is saying that the reason the dog got bashed was because it was roaming, what is being said is that it was very irresponsible of the owner to continue leaving the dog in a yard which he knew was not adequately fenced (the fact that the second article suggests that the dog had been out on a number of occasions previously) regardless of whether it is one day or 5 weeks, it is a risk to leave a dog in a poorly fenced yard- risk that the dog will get out and be either a) bashed or b) hit by a car... Regardless of what one thinks the cause of the injury was, the fact is that the dog should have been contained more adequately! He said he had temporary fencing as I did, until the fence was fixed. If the dog had been a problem for a long time, then the media would have been all over it, the fact that no one has come out & complained about the dog, shows that it was a nice natured dog, who only got out for a couple of days because of storms,
-
Second article: In the easter break is only a couple of days & he did say they had temporary fencing, after storms blew their fence down. Is that a reason to bash a dog, because it is loose, if it hasn't caused any problems? Just before I left Perth, we had a big storm while I was at work that blew our fence down, Kenny went into my neighbours place & was howling at the backdoor to be let in, because he was scared & wanted a human to cuddle him. My neighbour just took him back to my place & locked him inside, he didn't feel the need to bash him.
-
Spot on, I have owned, bred & shown pedigree dogs, but have also owned/own cross breeds. They are all dogs who should be loved & trained, none are better than the other. I think sometimes purebreed owners look down on those with crosses & maybe that's why they get called a snob. Just love your doggies no matter what breed or mixes.
-
Where in the article does it say the dog was out regularly? It said in the article, that the next door neighbour had star pickets in his yard, it also said that experts said the injury to the dog, was consistent with bashing by a star picket.

Should Small And Big Dogs Behave The Same?
mantis replied to grumpette's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes I believe that's a common expectation but not a fair one. All dogs should have manners. I think "small dog syndrome" can often be fear aggression. No, it's not alright that dogs are put in positions where they behave aggressively, regardless of the situation. The onus should be on OWNERS to prevent such situations and to protect their dogs if necessary. Aggression, regardless of its cause is something that needs to be addressed, not explained away. Who says they're not allowed to react? They shouldn't have to tolerate aggression from any dog. However, when was the last time you saw a large breed dog confronted by another dog that weighed more than 10 times what it did? No dog should be forced to defend itself but the frequency that larger breeds feel the need to may be less than for small dogs. I personally believe that if every dog owner took responsibity for the control and safety of their dogs, we'd have a lot fewer of the "small dog vs big dog" threads we see here. They're all dogs and sometimes people need to remember that. Excellent post PF. All dogs should be trained & be socialable, it really angers me when owners of little dogs have the attitude that my dog is so small & it is cute when it shows aggression. Unfortunately, sometimes when these dogs get aggressive with big dogs, they come out the losers, then their owners scream at the big dog who put it in it's place. Kenny (45kgs), was attacked by a Mini Poodle from across the road, the owner laughed until he knocked the dog down & held it by the throat, the owner quickly stopped laughing, then started abusing me & Kenny. :D Fortunately Kenny isn't vicious & didn't put a mark on the Poodle, but if it was another dog, her Poodle could have ended up dead or seriously injured. :D OH & PF, just to show I'm not picking on small dogs, Kenny was attacked by 2 large breed dogs as well & Kenny reacted the same, knock them down & grab their throats. I hate irresponsible owners of all size dogs. -
Uh huh. RSPCA QLD :D I wondered how long it would take for someone to comment on that quote. What do you expect? The RSPCA get a dig at APBT's every chance they get, even when it is replying to a very sad tragedy, that has nothing to do with APBT's. Regarding the tragedy, the poor family would be gutted, RIP doggies.

What a beautiful big boofa, so happy he is back home. If I was the owner I would sue the council for the cost of the cage & the mental anguish that the owner must have suffered, having his old friend taken from him. It is a bloody disgrace, that the poor dog in it's twilight years has had to go through being separated from his owner & locked up in a strange place.
