  1. I always used to say to my 2 two legged kids, that Kenny was their little brother. I don't have 2 legged grandchildren, but my daughter calls me her fur babies Grandma.
  2. I see that remark as being rude & insensitive & quite stupid under the circumstances. Even if the child was a silly little brat that ran up to the dog, which he obviously is not, no mother with a child that is badly injured & traumatised needs to be told this or be told how to feel about the dog at this moment. Hopefully the child will come out of this ok mentally & physically & kind words to this effect is all she needs right now. The rest can be sorted later, including the fate of the dog. Agree. It is totally the dog owners responsibility. An even tempered dog doesn't just snap. If I take my dog to someone's house or stall in this case, how my dog behaves would be totally my responsibility. If there are kids around, it would be my responsibility to ensure that my dogs don't harm them. I am sorry but I disagree with that and feel in this day and age "everything" is lumped onto the dog owner where in many cases these incidents could have been avoided with some good parental education for children how to behave around other people's dogs. We don't know the exact circumstances of this case, but if the dog was leashed and under handler control, there is no need for a child to be within a close proximity of the dog with the assumption that the dog is ok. It's getting worse by the day in general where parents allow their children to rush at and want to pat everyone's dog, then blame the dog owner when it turns to s&*%. As a child, I went to many shows with my nanna, she was an exhibitor and my mum was a trainer/handler and the golden rule I was taught from an early age was to leave other people's dogs alone, don't approach them and don't pat them because they can bite. It wasn't about blame, it was about proactive bite prevention management for children in those days I am talking 40 years ago now, but the system worked and being raised to respect what a dog may be capable of and learn the truth of potential dog behaviour didn't effect me or cause me to fear dogs, quite the opposite in fact. We were taught with our own dogs never to stare them out at close range, never to blow in their face or poke at them stupidly etc, we were taught the good and bad things about dogs and to respect an unknown dog's personal space and I have to be honest to say that many of these incidents involving childen had the children been taught the old school rules that I learned, most of these incidents wouldn't have happened. Putting dogs to sleep and having dog owners charged with offences after the fact doesn't undo the pain and trauma inflicted upon a child, but preventative manangement with proper eductation does prevent many these terrible situations occurring in the first place, it's not about right or wrong, it's about protecting childen from the vulnerability of suffering injuries from dogs when we are dealing with animals who can be unpredicatable. No dog is 100% bullet proof and no child IMHO should ever be led to believe that they are for my 2 cents worth. Excellent post, I am sick of the dog/owner always being to blame no matter the circumstances. People should control their kids, like responsible owners do their dogs.
  3. I agree with all of these, but would add desexing, unless they are used for showing/breeding. OH & lots of love.
  4. Sorry to sound harsh but perhaps if you'd kept your cat contained instead of letting it wander it wouldn't be dead. Whilst most people would apologise and feel terrible their dog had done this to someone else's pet they're not actually at fault in any way and probably get pissed off with roaming cats entering their yard all the time. Exactly, we have to keep our dogs contained on our property, so should cat owners. What if someone runs over a cat, are they going to want the driver charged? Kenny unfortunately killed a cat in our backyard, it had no bite wounds, just a broken neck. He obviously thought it was one of his toys, that he used to throw in the air & shake them. I rang the ranger next day to ask what I should do & if Kenny could be in trouble, he said if the cat had no identification, just bury it & that it was the cat owners fault, for letting the cat roam.
  5. For me, it's the fact that he's barking at you and then looking back at the water, he does this repeatedly - "mum, mum, my ball" or "mum, mum, (or dad, dad!) come see what I found." Totally agree, he can't get it so wants mum or dad to help him.
  6. SIGH, you may as well do this. The same people who are asking for this poor dog to get a chance & saying the breed shouldn't be reported in the media, are the same ones who have a different opinion when it comes to "other breeds". The media will go out of their way to try & pin all attacks on certain breeds, because it whips up hysteria & gets them better ratings. Unfortunately not much mileage out of a cute family dog attack.
  7. Staffy Luv, I don't know if this has been mentioned, but if you have had someone asking if Ziggy was sterilised in the past, I'd be worried about someone stealing him. Hope added security works out for you.
  8. My beautiful boy who has crossed the Rainbow Bridge now, but he used to bark the minute I left home. The neighbours complained to me, so I bought a huge super soaker & left it on the bin next to the fence & told the neighbours that when he barked just squirt him. It worked a treat, it took only two days for him to get the message. The place I am staying at presently, there is a Jack Russell cross who barks quite a bit, I just go out the back & clap my hands twice & he shuts up, no idea why that works.
  9. I know it's slightly off topic and I'm no expert either...but...the boxer in this pic looks a little strange, like his face is just not squishy enough to be a pure boxer. Also in regard to white boxers there are a few people in this part of SA that think it's a good idea to breed a white and a white together...I dunno if the pups would have any issues but these pups are backyard bred and they ask around $800 each for the puppies. When I was looking for a boxer puppy I saw plenty of white ones from registered breeders for way less than that. Just wondering about deaf dogs too...not just white dogs but any deaf dogs, I imagine they would be incredibly challenging to train. Imagine them running towards a main road or some other threat and no re-call argh! Anyone with brains wouldn't walk a deaf dog off lead. I'm not a fan of walking any dog of lead though, except in designated fenced off parks.
  10. That is what I had planned for Kenny, but unfortunately he went first. A friend of mine adopted her friends dog after she passed away. The little sweetie has a heart problem & needs daily medication, which the family of the deceased owner pay for. She is very happy with her new home, but probably because she was only 3 when her owner died.

Thankyou Pheebs. People think it's weird that whenever I talk about him I cry, guess they don't understand the bond you have with your dog.
  12. I lost my heart dog in 2010, I still miss him terribly. I have his favourite toys & blanket in my bedroom.

    Kenny

This is a very late notice, due to a lot of bad problems I have had over the last 18 months. I had to have my sweet boy PTS on the 5th October 2010, he was born on the 25th June 1998. Due to my circumstances, I didn't have internet at the time, I realise a lot of people on here now wouldn't know who he was. I will give a quick background, he was one of 13 puppies & was stillborn, I had to give him mouth to mouth to give him life. I had to hand raise him, because he was the runt of the litter. He became my best friend & companion, it broke my heart that I had to have a Vet give him the green dream. At least he was on my bed with me cuddling him, when the end came.
  14. Can someone please try & get these pups out of the pet shop & find them homes with people who understand the breeds. I am scared they will be sold to people who don't understand how powerful they are & how much training they need.
  15. I am furious about this show. What proof is there that a Pitty was to blame? Most people couldn't pick a real Pitty out of a line up, which Chris proved later in the show, when people brought in the white dog, worried it might be part Pittty, luckily Chris, who knows SFA, said no it is a Staffy cross, he is a moron. He should stick to making a fortune, out of sticking fake testicles on dogs.
  16. What? I am uspet that there is a BYB out there, who is selling unvaccinated dogs. How would you feel, if you bought a puppy & a week later found out it has major health issues & after 3 weeks, you have spent nearly a $1,000 in Vets bills, with no recourse. Yeah I'm not sure where the hysterical and obsessed bit fits in either :D There's always one weird post on every thread! Thankypu, I was wondering what I had done wrong. I really want to stop the person who is breeding & selling these dogs. It's a disgrace that these people still are operating & nothing is being done about closing them down. Maybe if the authorities, stopped wasting their time on BSL, they might be able to stamp out BYB's & Pet Shops selling pups.

  18. Cheers, I think I actually went there a long time ago . I am over my daughters partner, but I will not stop until I see this BYB shutdown. Will goggle dog breeders in Buchan & see what I can find. By the way, the puppies are cute, I went over there last weekend, the little buggers never stopped doing "zoomies" around the house, even Chesko with his Elizabethan collar on. :D I got lots of cuddles, licks & bites from them. They are sweet as, but then all puppies are.
  19. Poor little bugger still has the problem. My daughter had to take him to a specialist last week, he said he has an immune problem & has given him more drugs, but said he should be OK in about two weeks. In the mean time, she has to drop him off at the Vets every morning before work, so he can be given his medication, that is costing her $30 a day. They have spent over a $1,000 on him already, but she won't give me the breeders details, so I can contact him, because it will upset her partner. If anyone knows of a BYB in (buccan) not sure of the spelling, but it's near Bairnsdale, please let me know.
  20. Hi Jed Kenny & I are sending you big boofa love & kisses. :D
  21. Do bears **** in the woods? Krnny won't talk to me for days after he has been in kennels, even if I stay out overnight, it takes him a couple of hours to come to me for a pat, or lie on the couch.
  22. Give it two weeks & you will be able to tell them apart.
  23. It is there persephone, it's the fourth story down on the right hand side "Dog saviour burnt in fire..." Thanks HM, I hadn't been able to find it either - I was looking under the Qld local news. Jed, you did a great job on the news story. It's really terrific seeing you up and about too. Agree, it's great to finally put a face to the name of our wonderful Jed.
  24. So relieved that you are back Jed, remember how much you are loved on DOL. Healing thoughts being sent your way, like Chi Chi you are a fighter.
