  1. My two dogs do this too  I put the towels down on the floor and they roll around on it and dry themselves and then do mad zoomies. Even if I'm holding the towel they rub themselves in it. Now if only they could wipe their own muddy paws before coming in the door Kenny used the carpet as his towel as well, never did zoomies though, that required too much energy, just a snooze on the couch for him.

I agree. Jed I feel your pain, so many beautiful friends, crossing the Rainbow Bridge at the same time.
  3. Exactly. I hope the brave girl recovers to live a long & happy life.
  4. I love the way they are looking at you as if to say, "hey mum, get this person off OUR couch".
  5. So true, I got sick of trying to squeeze on the couch because Kenny took up to much room, so I ended up on a chair.
  6. If anyone in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne need a dog sitter, I am quite willing to do it for free, just being with the dogs is pay enough for me.
  7. There aren't heaps of properties anymore, hell, a lot of rentals don't even rent to people with kids. I had big problems finding rentals, even though I offered to pay a huge pet bond, I had to rent real dumps, which most people wouldn't want to live in, while paying top dollar for the rent.
  8. Exactly & it makes me angry that they only mention the breed if it is "one of those vicious breeds". It is irresponsible, because it lulls people into a false sense of security if they have one of those "nice friendly breeds", while fueling the hysteria that only some breeds attack & should be banned. I hope the little boy recovers & isn't scarred mentally or physically & the mother learns you can't leave a two year old playing outside unsupervised.
  9. Unfortunately no, she belongs to the lady who lived in the unit next to the one I was staying at, who adores her as well. Also I am only living in a rooming house, so I can't have any pets. I am waiting to get a unit, but I have to wait in line & it's killing me not having a dog.
  10. I have no experience in this but I always thought a protection dog was for protection.. If required/needed it could hold off an attacker that was attacking you... I would assume this would be more along the lines of detaining/holding the person doing the attacking.. I am thinking the average 'bad' person would probably run at the thought/sight of a protection dog... Hence the word they are to protect, not attack... I agree & unless the dog is being used for showing/breeding, it should be neutered. I wondered why my previous response didn't show up, seems the OP started the thread twice, maybe the mods can merge the two.
  11. I agree, you should always have a corded phone as a stand by when the electricity goes off, or the stupid cordless one stops working. Actually I prefer the corded ones, except you can't use them if you aren't in the room, only down side. I am so glad that clever doggy saved his life.
  12. I have always loved big boofhead dogs, but have fallen in love with a tiny Shih Tzu. Due to bad events, I lost my house due to fire, had to have two operations to save my sight & had to get my sweet boy PTS all within a short period. I had to stay at a friends unit while I had my operations & try to find somewhere permanent to live. Anyway long story short, there were 5 dogs at these units, all small dogs. When the owners took them out for toilies, the little buggers all soon learned to come to my front door for cuddles & treats, I ended up being the resident babysitter, when the owners went away, or when they would be gone for a long time during the day. I loved this, as I was feeling down & missing my boy, so it was wonderful to have a doggy to cuddle. I loved them all, but this one little girl Maggie, absolutely stole my heart, she was so tiny, but was just a wonderful dog. She would bark at me, until I picked her up & cuddled her, she was such a demanding little girl, but OH so cute. Has anyone else had that experience of falling in love with a breed you never thought you would?
  13. Can someone please post some pics?
  14. I agree Ermy. Kenny was allowed to sleep on the couch, but if I had visitors he was told to lie on his bed, he mightn't have been happy about it, but he knew when he was told his bed, then that was it.
  15. Agree, such a big personality in such a little dog amazes me, plus they are real cuddle bums.
  16. The dogs don't decide when they go in or out here .... and the only time they toilet indoors is overnight if they have an upset tummy or something. The other thing is that my house dogs are used to toileting on command , which means that they usually do toilet when told , and that means I know exactly when they have :) They are outside quite a bit . I can well understand why the comment is written - imagine, owning a dog in a large city , in an apartment or something, and dog has learned that scratching at the door means he gets to go OUTSIDE , Yayyyy :) His poor owners must then take him out all the time , when mostly he doesn't need to toilet, but just wants to explore.... Spot on. You learn to know when your dog really needs to "go toilies", or just wants to run amok. I know there are a lot of people who don't like Cesars method of training, but I think he is great.
  17. That would be my suggestion, though I have only had the pleasure of knowing one personally. She was a cuddlepie, total lapdog, yet with a big personality, who is happy just to lie around, or go for walks & play. I can't believe how much I have fallen in love with a SWF.
  18. training controls behavior, not desexing. The OP wants a protective dog they're better off leaving him entire. I agree training controls behaviour, not desexing. If the dog isn't being used for showing/breeding, then why keep it entire? I don't think an entire male is any better for protection than a neutered dog & considering he wants it as a family pet as well, I would definitely say neuter.
  19. They definitely have dreams/nightmares. Kenny would bark & his legs would be moving, like he is chasing something.
  20. I love your avatar, whenever I ate yoghurt Kenny would be sitting there drooling, waiting for me to finish so he could lick the container clean.
  21. Toy breeds. aka small white fluffies.
  22. My two legged & four legged kids all got hiccups as babies. I was told by a Doctor, that this happens because they have full tummies & it is natural & nothing to worry about.
  23. Too bloody smart for their own good sometimes.
  24. I was going to stay out of this thread, but had to reply to your post. Favourite are all big boofheads, especially Bull & Mastiff breeds. I used to breed & show Cairn Terriers, so love them as well. I once would have said least favourite SWF, but after spending 15 months in a block of units that only had small dogs, I have softened. My fav dog there was a little Shitzu who was so beautiful with her little squishy face & big personality, you couldn't help but love her. She knew she was adorable & I swear she battered her eyelids as she barked at you to pick her up & give her a cuddle.
