  1. Hell yes - we can use you Mantis. Im sorry I missed your call - had to take the kid to footy training but Ill give you a call tomorrow after lunch. I have Doctors appointments tomorrow afternoon, but I will be home after 4pm.
  2. Pheebs, you owe me big time. DOL helped me because when APBT's were put on the banned list, I got a lot of support & suggestions for dealing with the restrictions that I was meant to go through, plus have met many wonderful Dolers in person & shared many good times. Now I have found out about Pacers, it has given me a reason to look forward to the future, when I had given up hope & was just waiting to join my Kenny across the Bridge.
  3. I can't select any of the options. My dogs don't have access to food all day, they don't fuss to get food, affection is not demonstrated through treats, and they don't get table scraps. They get food as a routine and have to sit politely for it. Yes, I started the survey but abandoned it at this point as my dog eats set meals and has to sit politely, or work for her food. She is not given treats for free ever, only food in training sessions. The question assumes that I'm an idiot that gives my dog whatever it wants. I'm not  so I had to stop there and not complete the survey. I answered D, because Kenny would never eat his food until after I ate mine, because he was waiting for any scraps left over. He also got treats for free, either I must have been an idiot owner, or you are a meany.
  4. Yes...I have a spoilt goldie who whines if I don't look at her. It starts with a really slow pitiful sound. And yes, she does get eye contact when she does that. My other dog would keep looking at me with soleful eyes till I look at him. I give in to that too. My Kenny used to push my arm up with his head if I was on the computer, or put his paws on my lap when I was watching TV, damn spoilt dog, but would I have had it any other way, nope.
  5. I met with my case worker today who's involved with the Salvos & I mentioned to him about this topic. He is going to let me know where around the Yarra Ranges area, the homeless with dogs usually are. So hopefully I might be able to help them. I also told him about Pacers & he was excited, he said so many times people who contact emergency housing with pets, refuse housing because they won't get rid of their pets. He said that he's sure that if Pacers fostered pets for these people, that the Salvos would help with funding for the carers if needed.
  6. Yep sure is. Where can I find their contact details?
  7. Is there a Pacers branch in Vic? I can't help with money or fostering at the moment, but I could try & get donations of supplies.
  8. No the rangers should not take the dogs off them. These dogs would probably be taken to the pound & PTS. The person who has lost everything loses their friend & more. Go back & find them & take some food for them both if they are on your mind. That pic says it all, I cry when I see it, so much love even after life has dealt you a bad hand.
  9. Why take the dogs off them, which would probably end in the dogs being PTS? Don't you think that the suggestions by the majority of posters in this thread is a better solution, giving supplies & help so they can keep their dogs?
  10. OK, so you no longer want dogs taken away from homeless people, excellent.
  11. I'm confused now. Three days ago you start this thread about homeless peoples dogs in Sydney, now you are in China, something smells fishy to me.
  12. I wish I lived where I could have a dog, but alas I can't where I'm staying at the moment. I live in Mooroolbark, hope someone else can help you, good luck.
  13. Exactly, you are spot on. I have deliberately avoided replying to this thread until now, because I was so angry & upset with the OP, I didn't trust myself to answer without flaming. These dogs are so loved by their owners & vice versa, anyone who could even think about taking the dogs off them, is just heartless. I agree that anyone who comes across people in this situation, should give either some food, grooming tools, worm & flea treatments, whatever they can spare & a few kind words to both human & dog.
  14. My ex came home from work one day & found his TV, stereo & video recorder stolen, his dog was an APBT, he found her snoozing peacefully on his bed, vicious dogs these Pitties. She passed her lazy gene onto my Kenny.
  15. Same here, Kenny's favs were bananas & canteloupe, I think it's the sweet smell that attracts them.
  16. When did it change? When I was showing they had to be entire. Gawd I'm old.
  17. My only question is why showing dogs gives people the right to keep entire dogs?? People that do protection work should have the same rights, as should people that do herding. Not all these people are registered with an organisation recognised by the Govt but they should be allowed to breed. You can't show a dog if it's been desexed, I agree that registered protection dog agencies should also be exempt, because they are in a controlled situation with responsible owners. Please don't think I am a PETA lover, I can't stand them. I just get upset when I see a big sign advertising dogs from pet shops. Only today, I went past Feathers & Fish in Bayswater, with a billboard outside advertising they have Kelpie X Gundogs for sale, this really makes me angry, because someone from the suburbs, possibly with no experience is going to buy a working dog & keep it locked up in a small backyard. I worry where those dogs will end up. I love dogs as most people who have been around here for a long time know, but I am sick of Pet Shops & BYB selling to anyone, whether they are experienced dog owners or not.
  18. I don't understand why the dog attack was brought into the article, totally irrelevant. But I do agree that unless you are registered breeder, or showing your dogs, then I think pet dogs should be desexed. It would stop a lot of BYB & Puppy Farmers, plus the people who want to let their little girl have one litter. There would be a lot less dogs in pet shops, pounds & being PTS.
  19. I'll probably get flamed for my suggestion. If your dog is used to being inside with access to outside, why not let him have the same access when you are out? My Kenny always had the run of the house & access outside, maybe put in a doggy door, if you aren't comfortable with leaving your back door open. It is hard enough that your dog is seperated from you, but the added stress of being unable to go where he usually does would add to his anxiety. OK flame away.
  20. Agree, and it was making me sick the way the cop was trying to justify his actions. The owner conducted himself very well under the circumstances. I think I would have probably been shot as well. I would lose it if that happened to me and my dog. :cry:Very sad for the owner. I would have ended up in jail or shot if I was in that situation, because I would have gone nuts & attacked the trigger happy cop. RIP doggy, a shame you had to die protecting your owner who had done nothing wrong.
  21. Max brings things to swap me too. She steals shoes or undies (or anything she knows she's not meant to have) and runs straight to the treat cupboard and sits there with them, waiting. It started because whenever she had something she wasn't meant to have, I'd have to bribe her to give it back, and she figured out pretty quickly that taking things meant she got a treat lol My Kenny was just the same, when he wanted a treat he would grab anything he wasn't allowed to have & run up to me, shaking his head & growling, like he is saying I am going to destroy this if I don't get a treat. Bloody dogs have us trained, not the other way around.
  22. I'm the same. I don't think that makes us snobs though, just smart.
  23. When I lived in WA I did an experiment, because I was sick of all the biased reporting of dog attacks. I rang 7, 9 & 10 to say that I was attacked by a dog, the first thing they asked me was if it was a Pitbull, when I said no it definitely wasn't a Pitbull, they said it could have been a cross though, trying to goad me into saying it was, when I again said no it wasn't, they suddenly lost interest & said that it wasn't newsworthy.
  24. But did you get kisses & cuddles? To me they are better than any chocolates, presents, or breakie in bed.
  25. All depends on the quality and integrity of your tenants. Let's face it, when the agent asks for references given most likely by friends and associates of the prospective, you can bet your bottom dollar there won't be a bad one amongst them. It's a risk that the landlord takes and saying that, most tenants are fair and decent, but all it takes is a bad one and that puts a spanner in the works and I'm not talking about fair wear and tear either. I always got a reference from my previous landlord.
