Coroner Calls For Laws On Breeding Restricted Breeds
mantis replied to Alyosha's topic in In The News
Seems these trolls like B.S.L not because they think its its the answer to dog attacks, but because its a step towards wiping out non ANKC papered dogs.Thats going to help the ANKC cause Kinda invalidates the pro B.S.L cause if its realy another thing entirely. Well said. :cheer: -
Thanks for the reply, I didn't decide to go with them anyway. Just too much what if's and I really want to go it right. I wouldn't be able to go see their home or parents beforehand because we are interstate. Just more waiting :) Outside of the dodginess of the 'breeder' in question, I'd just like to point out that you don't have to see the home or parents in order to get a puppy from an ethical breeder. This 'you must see the pups and their environment' is a crock. Really? When I was breeding Cairns many years ago, I always asked the would be buyers to come & see the parents. I also used to ask if I could visit their home, so I could see whether they had secure fencing & where they would be housed etc. Over the top, maybe, but I didn't want my babies going somewhere they wouldn't be safe & taken care of.

Coroner Calls For Laws On Breeding Restricted Breeds
mantis replied to Alyosha's topic in In The News
Sigh......the further it goes, the sadder it gets. Where did I ever say I agreed with BSL? What I said was "Bad laws are still laws". You would do well to remember that. It's the centre point of the whole sh1t fight. I also said I agree with the coroners splendid idea that owners & not councils, should be responsible for the identification of their breed if it should become an issue. Like after it has chewed a kid to death for instance. That was it. the rest was your mob...up & running. Circling the wagons & chanting the same old same old from the song book of past anti BSL failed strategies. Now we are into "scar tissue of old panics"...what ever the hell that is supposed to mean....sounds like Julia sounding off at Tony again - reds under the beds?, silver bullets & werewolves? It would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic. Any wonder BSL is so firmly entrenched. Your style is not part of the solution, it's part of the problem. B.t.w, I didn't see YOUR measures to ensure public safety. Did I miss them? Yes,you did miss them....links hav been provided which you have obviously not bothered to read. No one here is saying you should break the law. The contentious issue as you yourself have said is putting onus on the owners of dogs to prove they are not pittbull or crosses of. Yes,people can choose to own dogs with no bull breed or ANKC registered bull breeds with papers, take precautions to keep dogs safe etc etc. But you refuse to answer How does a person with any cross breed, unpapered dog prove that it has no pittbull with such arbitrary criteria? I'm talking about whippet X lab, cattle dog X pointer, greyhound X whatever.None of which have any bull breed yet could produce results that once grown, might have a vague resemblence to a pit cross. If owner and dog have been doing every thing right by the book and the dog is "noticed" for ANY REASON ,even walking calmly on lead with its owner, its at risk.As pups those same dogs may have looked vastly different and people assume if they are doing the right things, they will will be safe. They are not. You are not trying to rationaly discuss anything. You telling us your argument for onus of proof being on the owners is it.You can't validate anything and won't look at alternate info.that validates any other option.Useless excersise . Don't waste your time, people have been having these same arguments with "Dougie" and his other aliases, for many years. Basically, you may as well do this. -

So you are wanting innocent dogs to be killed? Some dog lover you are. -

I don't think anyone's game enough to bet against you there. I'll have as much of that as you can afford. Yeah, OK Dougie, m-sass, plus your many other aliases over the years. -
I agree. I can't understand why the parents of the kid haven't made him take the dog back, unless he was acting on their behalf. I sure as hell would be looking into who owns the dog, if one of my kids brought a dog home. Assuming of course, that the dog made it home. So why aren't the kids parents asking what he did with the dog, so they can contact the owner?

Dogs love fruit, my Kenny used to love bananas & cantaloupe especially., he always enjoyed his blueberry muffin he got on his birthdays.

So are people like me who just adopted a rescue "Bull Breed" a fool? Such narrow minded views, especially on a dog lovers forum give me the irrits. -

Agree, hell he shouldn't be allowed to own a goldfish. I feel despair for the life that poor dog will live.

I wish my dog barked, just once. Since I got little Cougar she has never barked, not at the other dogs, people knocking on my door, nothing. I've even tried to teach her by saying speak & barking myself, all to no avail. She is a very happy little girl & wags her tail & wiggles her bottom when she sees another dog, or if I have a visitor, but no barking. Does anyone know if this is normal for some Staffies?

Serious Car Accident Involving Racing Greys And Trainers
mantis replied to OSoSwift's topic in In The News
Was thinking the same thing as I read it. a chap was washing his car and this dog came down the street, "politely said hullo" to him, "spotted the front door open and trotted in and settled himself on the lounge, with and expectant look as if asking, n whats for lunch" HA HA I have to agree. Before I moved into a rooming house a while ago, I had no experience with Greys. The cleaners who came around once a fortnight, used to bring their Grey they got from Greyhound Rescue, she was a sweet girl, if any of the tenants left their doors open, she was straight in there & on the beds. They told me that she won't take food off strangers, as they are trained not too in case someone tries to poison them, they were astonished when she happily took treats from me, they said I broke her. Very happy all the missing dogs have been found & are OK. -
Rspca Criticised Over Claims Test To Decide Fate Of Dogs Is Misused
mantis replied to minimax's topic in In The News
RSPCA suck, why are people surprised about this latest bit of bad publicity on this morally bankrupt & corrupt organisation. -
Great news, it wasn't the pet shop at Eastland was it? They were selling Bull Arab pups last year & when I told them of my anger at selling dogs that would end up huge & needed experienced dog owners, they ordered me out of the shop.

I don't mind mice, snakes etc and am not what you would call a girly girl in that sense, I used to keep mice and rats etc but spiders... I will try and answer your question from my perspective. Everything about them creeps me out, their hairy spindly legs, the way they move, the fact they can bite, some can be life threatening, the mere thought of one makes me physcially shudder. I have nightmares about them, have trouble looking at pictures of them, quite regularly inspect areas inside before going into them to make sure there are none there and if I get one on me I become absolutely hysterical. It's out of my control. And pretty funny for anyone watching  When I was a kid I wasn't as scared of them until I was bitten by some kind of jumping spider and developed a shocking infection at the bite site. I think that has a lot to do with how I feel about them. Yes they may be harmless in most cases but I've experienced the harmful side and I wouldn't want to do it again  I'm the same, I have had pet snakes, mice & rats, but spiders scare the crap out of me. I think it's because they are sneaky & turn up in your bed, car, clothes etc. OH & when I was young, a giant wolf spider jumped off a tree & onto my arm, have been terrified ever since. Thongs are the greatest invention ever, for spider eradication.

Yes she is gorgeous. One of the neighbours gave her a packet of Dentastix for her birthday. All the people here love her & can't believe how quiet & sweet she is, she is loving all the attention.
-
Today was her birthday, so for a special treat I gave her a small tub of diet blueberry yoghurt for breakfast. She has met all the other people in the units & the other dogs, but from a safe distance until she is familiar with them. Good thing there was no growling or signs of aggression from any of the dogs, just excited barking & lots of tail wagging. I think Cougar is very happy here, I sure am happy she's in my life.
-
She is a beautiful girl, she deserves to have a really good home, I wanted to take her home myself but my two would be a bit full on for her. She seens to want a quiet life, a typical couch potato. Daz,are you able to post her pics from the Staffy Rescue site?
-
OH my goodness, I can't believe what a placid girl she is, I have never owned such a laid back dog. After eploring the smells in the backyard, she has spent the rest of the time lying on the couch, snoozing. Sorry I don't have pics, my daughter took 2 & emailed them to me, but I don't know how to post them. If someone wants to PM their email, I will email the pics to them. Did I say how in love with her I am already?

Cougar, she must like younger men.

I am stll settling in to my unit & I want everything to be stable first, hopefully I should be ready in two weeks. My daughter has very kindly offered to pay for the dog I get, hopefully from Staffy Rescue. That sounds very promising! Make sure you keep us updated. I am getting a beautiful 7 year old girl from Staffy Rescue Saturday, tomorrow I have to go & buy toys & bedding etc. I am so happy.

Just an update, the owner came home yesterday, little Toby went into hyper mode when he saw his Dad. I had Hydro Dog come & bath him & cut his nails that were really too long on friday, so his owner came home to a happy, clean & well groomed dog. Today I am looking after two dogs from another neighbour, who is spending the night with her family for a 21st party, one of the little mites, is my sweet little Shitzu Zu Maggie & her sister Penny a Maltese cross. On the weekend, I am looking after my daughters two hyper JRT's, while she goes to Sydney. I'm wondering when I can get time to have my own dog, because while I love looking after other peoples dogs, I want my own, that I don't have to give back.

The little guy has settled down, he slept on my bed & he has been out to play with the other dogs here this morning. I rang the hospital & they said his owner is much better this morning, but couldn't say when he will be coming home.
