Good news, I just came back from her house after she rang the Vet. They were pleased with her progress, said her heart rate was almost back to normal & she is sleeping. They were confident she can go back home tomorrow. The Vet said the fact that she vomited most of the chocolate up, helped her heaps. Her sweet little sister Maggie will be so happy when Penny comes home, she was wandering around whimpering, because she couldn't find Penny. I can't wait for tomorrow, when order is restored & everyone is happy.

That's good news, will head off now & let her know it isn't all gloom & doom.

Penny weighs about 12kg & it was half a block of milk chocolate, they don't know how long it had been since she ate it, because they weren't home. I'm going to stay with her until she rings the Vet, as she is in such a state, just thought I would quickly post, hoping that a I could give her something positive about her doggy.

My neighbour went out for 4 hours today & when she got home, her JRT X Maltese was vomiting & very lethargic. She noticed a chocolate wrapper on the floor & realised that she must have eaten the half block of chocolate that was left. She thought she put the chocolate way out of reach of her dogs, but obviously not for Penny. They have taken the dog to the 24hr emergency Vet in Glen Waverley & have put her on a drip & told her to ring back in 3 hours to check her progress. My neighbour is so upset & guilt ridden that she left chocolate where her dog could get it, even though she thought it was out of reach. Are there any people here who have had their dogs eat chocolate & needed medical care & what are the chances for a full recovery. If her dog doesn't make it, it will devastate her.

I also endorse Snooza futons & my boy was a couch & bed destroyer, but only my bed, never his own.

PHEW, that's good news, glad my fears were for nothing. Have a long & happy life Delilah.

I agree , he must not have seen that it was turning from play to a serious fight . I have play fought with many dogs over many years and never has it even looked like tunring to anything serious, same as my dogs play fight and never have I had those turn into real fights . I have had the occasional foster/visiting dog playing and seen a change in the dogs and stopped it well before anything happened. He was play fighting with another human, not his dog.

Yeah. Ya' think! In Australia they don't think that, the dog is always the one who gets punished.

Hard question to answer, but I'll try. I like a (dare I say it) "masculine' type dog, I like the appearance of a muscular dog and I like a dog that is willing to defend it's owner and property. In terms of temperament, I would say I prefer a dog that is CAPABLE of holding it's own in a fight, but takes a lot of pushing to do so. I'd like to think a stranger could approach me and my dog and be able to pat it. i hope that helps ! Cheers Sorry, but after reading this post, I don't think any Bull Breed or large breed is for you.

That is fantastic, someone talking common sense. I especially loved his comment, "most commonly, there is some kind of human failure".

It doesn't have to be a long time, my Kenny was a shocker when I left him alone. He chewed up many couches, futons, doonas & cushions, he also destroyed a 6 pack of toilet paper one day & made my backyard look like it had been snowing. Saying that, you have to love them, as they are the sweetest doggies in the world.

Fair dinkum, humans are stupid sometimes. How the hell is a dog supposed to know that it was just play fight? They get the dog all riled up & then get upset when it reacts. I can't believe the idiot owner wants the dog put down, because of his stupidity, I know which one should be put down & it isn't the poor dog.

OK, well it's obviously just me. I just was worried the dog was being used for ratings & was having her life being shipped around & might unsettle her. I hope that her new home ends up being her forever home & she doesn't end up back in rescue. Good luck in your new home Delilah, you were the only reason I watched that stupid show.

Maybe I am on my own, but I am not happy they put a dog into that situation. What bothers me more is, tonight they showed the family who are adopting her. They have 2 dogs already, what if they don't get on with her, she is going to end up back in the pound. I don't like they are using a dog to boost their ratings & are re-homing the dog before they make sure it will work out. I am worried, that after the show she will end up back in the pound.

Are you sure? That sounds enormous. I think my girl is around the 14-16 kgs mark Im sure they vary between sexes but 25 kgs sounds way over. I could be wrong, I have a 24kg male Stafford Breed standard for SBT is 11 -17 kgs so 24 kgs is way oversize or extremely fat. He's not extremely fat :) But a little bit fat. Time for you & your doggy to start jogging around the block. LOL, cheeky bugger, he's not fat at all  He is big, and very very old....I think his jogging days are over! Like my sweet girl. she is 8 & I am trimming her down so she doesn't have extra strain put on her joints, that is an easier solution, because there is no way I can jog anywhere,

It does not look good for Max at all. After two attacks on people, sorry but there won't be tears from me if the dog is put to sleep. There will be tears from me, it's not Max's fault he had an irresponsible owner.

Totally agree. My beautiful Cougar is from them & she is just so sweet & nice natured. About the weight, Cougar is an older lady & weighs 17kg, but I have put her on a diet, as I don't want to put strain on her legs by being overweight.

OH so happy with that news. The last time I went past there, they had Bull Arabs X Staffies for sale. Let's hope all the Pet Shops follow suit, that will seriously put a dent in the BYB's pockets.

This topic has come up many times, so I won't go into the long story about my heart dog again. Kenny was definitely my heart dog, it affected me really badly when he crossed the "Rainbow Bridge". Now I have my beautiful Cougar, who I love dearly, but Kenny was special & will always remain my number one heart dog. I still miss him so much.

It's pretty obvious that dogs then were more socialised, because they were allowed to wander willy-nilly. There were still dog fights, people being bitten & many who got hit by cars. It's the media & the introduction of social-media, which highlights the bad things that dogs do now. Also, are you talking ALL Bull Breeds? If so, then you are talking about many breeds, would you prefer none of them existed in Australia? Of course I want them here, I love the bull breeds. I was simply asking when they became popular. I was wondering as to whether there was a shift in society and its preconceptions of the "game breeds" when they first arrived that created an issue and inadvertently put them on the back foot from the time they arrived, making them more attractive to the less desirable members of society because they were deemed as "scary" and "vicious", which in turn has directly created the issues before us now. Has this been simmering beneath the surface of society for a long time or is it just a new thing to dwell on and blame in order to create mass hysteria? As I posted, there were many problems with dogs back then, just dogs weren't really cared about as much. If your dog didn't come home, or got killed, it was a matter of, OH well, we'll just get another puppy from the neighbour, whose bitch just had a litter of mongrel puppies. Yes it is a new thing with media beating up hysteria to sell papers, or get ratings.

I can't get it to load. Finally got it to load, damn hilarious & worth the wait.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is QI? If it's a foxtel show, I don't have it.

How can they be papered when they are not a recognised breed unless they are registered as Amstaffs. All appeared the same size and shape as the Amstaffs at shows except they were all red/white with red noses which is not an Amstaff colour. All the same as the many that populated my neighbourhood for many years, including the one that bailed me up just last year then went for, knocked over and injured an elderly lady walking her dog. In this case she was lucky as two good samaritans jumped straight on the dog as it got her to the ground and one shoved her walking stick in it's mouth as it tried to get to her head. Unfortunately the idiot owner turned up and took the dog while the lady was being treated in an ambulance and we were all still waiting for the police. And another one goes on the ignore list.
