  1. I am so envious, I want to go somewhere like that.
  2. Where did I say you were a moron? I was talking about my thread on the GD forum, about a moron owner.
  3. Size has very little to do with anything. MOST dogs who are declared dangerous or menacing are small dogs, that are yappy and untrained. ANY animal control officer can confirm this. My friends Guide Dog is currently recovering after being viciously attacked by a Caviler King Charles Spaniel of all dogs. The Guide Dog was taken in for emergency surgery. It is unclear whether it will ever work again. The number one reason for Guide Dogs to retire is from Dog Attacks. Over half from smaller breed dogs. Only the day before this attack I was out walking with my friend and some woman came past with some small yappy dogs in flexi leads and started growling at the Guide Dog who was in full harness. The woman screamed at us saying that big aggressive dogs should not be allowed in public places. The Guide Dog had totally ignored the smaller dogs. How is it that the Guide Dog is a big and aggressive and out of control dog?? This is something she hears on a very regular basis. People with small yappy dogs, think their dogs have a right to attack a guide dog, just because the dog was there. I used to live in a block of flats and one of had a jack russell in it. The guy that owned it was a furniture removalist and played football in the lcoal club. He was incredibly fit and healty. 3 times I personally saw the dog pull him so hard that it pulled him over. He stopped putting the dog on lead as he could not control it on lead. I on the other hand had a labrador in a small one bedroom 3rd floor flat, which was full of people from other cultures, who were scared of dogs, but loved mine. She never barked, but had no need to bark. She was walked a minimum of 3 times a day, and was kept busy and occupied. She competed in obedience and agilty and was a visiting pet therapy dog. The same could not be said for the small breed dog taht was in the end kicked out by the Body Coporate, after it attacked two young children. ALL dogs can pull on a lead hard enough to pull someone over. Size has little to do with it. ALL dogs can be out of control if they are not trained and well socialised, not kept under effective control, etc, etc. It is the DEED of the dog, not the BREED or size of the dog. I have personally reported 3 aggressive and out of control dogs to my local council in the last 6 months, all were small breeds. I agree, see my thread on the General Discussion board, about Idiot Owners, it's not the poor dogs fault, that they have morons for owners.
  4. Cougar likes eating her dog biscuits & treats on the couch, as much as I growl at her, she won't eat them unless she's on the couch. Today she took her chicken carcass & ate it on the couch, tomorrow, she is going to be put outside until she eats her chicken carcass, I can handle crumbs on my couch, but raw chicken, no way.
  5. That's great Jed. But I still hate them.
  6. I think there's a vast difference between organisation and individual, which is kinda apples and oranges. A breeder is still an individual with a family, house and life to manage, regardless. An organisation has many hands and fingers in lots of pies, which is why perhaps they can do a little more on less notice. When I was breeding my Cairns, I had a family, two small children no less, but I would still have taken back any of my dogs, rather than have it dumped at a pound, or given to any person, who might not have been a suitable owner. You breed them, you are responsible for them.
  7. I wouldn't take his dog to the pound, because everyone here knows he wouldn't pay to get her out. We have a big communal area where we all exercise our dogs, he is the only one who won't leash his dog. I can't risk taking her out when his dog is there, because he won't call his dog back, he thinks it's funny, that his little dog rushes other dogs. The guy is a moron, I'm just thankful he only has a small dog, if he ever owned a big dog, well I don't even want to think about what would happen.
  8. Unfortunately, he lives in one of the three units with no courtyard, so can't do that. My girl is OK with the other dogs, but they are always on lead, where as his dog runs up & barks & growls at other dogs, so I am not sure how my dog would react to that, the reason I am so worried. The Ranger said that if my dog hurt his dog because she got in my dogs face, that it would be the owners fault, but I couldn't bear his little dog getting hurt, because she has a moron for an owner.
  9. I would say they will, but they are still investigating him over having his dog off lead as well. It's a bit hard to avoid his dog, as he sometimes leaves her outside on her own, for over an hour. I wait until he goes out to walk Cougar, but I have to keep a watch, so as soon as see his car, I quickly take Cougar inside. It's so bloody unfair on her, that she can't be walked except when the idiot is out.
  10. The block of units I live in, most of the neighbours are really nice & we get on really well. But there is one neighbour who is a know it all & thinks he is better than everyone else & rules don't apply to him Since I adopted little Cougar, all the other dog owners only walk their dogs on lead, when I am walking Cougar, until they all get to know each other. But the idiot refuses to leash his dog, even when I asked him politely to have his dog on lead, if he sees me walking Cougar. He not only told me to get stuffed & he would do as he pleases, he started taunting Cougar, by playing with his dog outside my unit., when I told him to stop, he again told me get stuffed. The other neighbours are angry with him as well, because they know that I only have the dogs best interest at heart & I am scared that if his little dog runs up to my dog barking & growling like she does, Cougar might react & his little dog could be hurt. I decided that the only way to make him take responsibility for his dogs behaviour, was to ring the Council & inform them of him never having his dog on lead, plus the fact his dog isn't registered, desexed, or microchipped. The Ranger paid him a visit monday afternoon & he bragged to other neighbours that he told them to get stuffed & he will do as he pleases. Yesterday afternoon, I get a phone call from the Ranger saying that he made a complaint about me having a vicious dog, that I let wander off lead. I was gob smacked, the Ranger told me not to worry, as he knows I'm a responsible owner & he was just doing it to get even. The Ranger said that they are continuing their investigations into him & will let me know the outcome of any prosecutions against him. Why is there always one rotten apple? I'm so furious, especially as he is still not leashing his dog, which I told the Ranger. OK, vent over.
  11. They are fantastic little dogs, small on the outside, but big inside. I love them dearly, but alas, I am a big dog lover, so when my last sweet dog crossed the Rainbow Bridge, I followed my heart. I just love Bull Breeds so much & strangely my Cairns were harder to handle. My twice Champion boy, who won many best in groups, Best Puppy in show etc. & also won Best of Breed at the Royal Melbourne Show when he was 17 months old, was a little bully. He used to scare an Irish Wolfhound who he frequently competed against for Best in Show. His owner used to say, stop your boy from scaring mine & we'd both laugh.
  12. Exactly. When I was breeding my Cairns, I told all the buyers if they had problems to call me first, I also told them that if they didn't know how to hand strip their dogs coats in summer I would do it for them. I had sore bloody hands, because most of the new owners took me up on my word, until I taught them how to do it. As a breeder, you have a responsibility for the dogs you breed, even after you sell them.
  13. Can everyone stop picking on Wildthing. I understand why they are upset about this issue. It breaks my heart that innocent animals have to suffer, because of human irresponsibility. That's why we have BSL. Stupid humans cause the death of innocent animals.
  14. So at any time, a breeder should have to take back all dogs bred, regardless of age, sexual status, vaccination status and their own lives. I love a dreamer. You don't just toss the dog in the back yard and hope for the best with your other dogs. How many horse breeders live in the burbs and have to get permits for every single extra dog they have? The issue isn't whether the dog goes back to its breeder but whether that breeder can step up for the dog in other ways. How many rescuers could take back any dog they'd rehomed at any time on zero notice?? When I adopted my sweet Cougar, Staffy Rescue said if I ever wanted to give her up, I had to give her back to them.
  15. No argument here. If people spent less time trying to take or retake the intellectual or moral high ground and focussed on the fact that advice is being sought by real people with real problems with their dogs, this place would be a lot more constructive. Training methods, training tools... all generate the same debates and all participants need to realise that what people need are solutions that work for them and their dogs without safety or welfare issues being created. If you've never faced such issues, had a problem dog or assisted someone else with a problem dog then perhaps you need to temper your philosophical viewpoint accordingly. I used to be very black and white on a whole bunch of dog issues. These days I'm far more pragmatic. The more I learn about dogs, the greyer many of these issues become. What works works - dogs don't read training manuals, research papers or popular websites. It pays to keep that in mind. Very well said.
  16. Why do you think so many show people still use check chains? They have been used for decades & are very affective in training when used properly, which I think the majority are.
  17. You mean pure breds? Or were they all surrendered with pedigree papers? Whats with the nit picking? They were purebred dogs, how would I know what they were surrended with. I'm just a member of the public making an observation. Some people are under the delusion, that purebred dogs don't end up in pounds.
  18. Kenny was a bugger with guarding me, if I had a male friend around & they dared to put an arm around me, or make any advances, he would quickly jump on the couch & push said male away from me. It can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how I felt about the male.
  19. I avoid visiting pounds anymore, because I feel so sad for the dogs, I want to take them all home.
  20. I'm with you Stans Mum. I'm 61 & didn't want to go through the puppy stage again, that's why I wanted a rescue over 2yo.
  21. My thoughts exactly. I have always trained my own dogs, because I do what works best for me & my dogs.
  22. I don't know why people are giving the poster such grief for their views. I also hate that animals that have ended up being pests because of stupid irresponsible human & have to suffer because of it. Unfortunately, I know they have to be culled to save the native animals, but it still makes me sad, doesn't means I'm a Peta lover, I actually despise them. The bolded part of your thread is spot on, yes we are. Who else is to blame for the huge number of extinct/or in danger of extinction animals in the world?
  23. I'd be scared to let my dogs out unsupervised, for fear he might throw over a bait & would check the backyard beforehand, to make sure there is nothing there. People can be such bastards sometimes.
  24. The thing that makes me even angrier about little Orange being stolen is, why the hell did the ******** do it, if they were just going to mistreat her? What could they possibly have got out of it, maybe they realised with all the publicity they couldn't keep or sell her, so just let her loose.
  25. At least your doggy did it outside & not on the furniture inside, like mine.
