I'm the same, I even bond with other peoples dogs. I have always bonded with animals, even my snakes, turtles, cats, birds, guinea pigs, rats, possum etc, I have had over my lifetime. I bond better with animals than I do with humans, probably why I have 3 exes.

I dare say most of us have done this, when one of our little buggers does something really naughty. After about 10 minutes & we have calmed down, we realise we still love them, even with their flaws.
-
I've never had that happen to me thank goodness. I would be devastated if it did & would be wondering what I did wrong, to make a dog behave in such a way for me to become unbonded. Make sure your underwear is extremely fireproof, if you decide to elaborate, just in case.

Recommend Dog Boarding Kennels In Melbourne
mantis replied to Vacuna's topic in General Dog Discussion
Wellington Park Kennels in Lysterfield are fantastic, I had to board Kenny there for 2 months while looking for a home for us to rent. My daughter boarded her 2 JRT's there the Melbourne Cup weekend. They take great care of your dogs & their set up is fantastic. -
Or a 12 hour whelping during the night, breech births & a trip to an emergency Vet at 2am to get puppy formula to feed the puppies, because the mother doesn't want to know the puppies she's had, while she is still pushing out the others. Then the 2 hour feeds for the runts of the litter, who are too small to compete with the bigger stronger pups. Sorry but i find this sort of attitude disgusting. It won't be the poor dogs fault she is being used to get "$200" a pup out of. You wouldn't wish it on dogs of registered breeders so what makes it any different for this dog? It must be devastating for things to go so wrong, something i wouldn't wish on any breeding dog, Registered or not. OP I doubt you will change their mind, all you can do is hope that for the bitch's sake everything goes smoothly and they are able to find them nice homes. There will always be byb and no amount of whinging here will change it. Exactly right German Shep Fan. Couldn't have said it better myself. Maybe if the OP informs their relatives of our posts & what can happen, it may change their minds. All they are seeing is $ signs, if they are informed about the risks & the possible costs, that is a good thing.

A Pitty X Cairn, although they are my two favourite breeds, I can't even think about that pairing. -

Exactly, it is good to try & work out why our rescue dogs behave in certain situations, it doesn't mean we aren't going to try & overcome their problems. I can't see anything wrong with it to be honest. -

Well done for helping a lonely doggy person. I know how hard it was for me the 2 years after I lost my Kenny, until I could get another dog. I was lucky enough to borrow the dogs from my neighbours & became the resident doggy sitter.

Rescue Dogs - Clues To Their Lives Before You.
mantis replied to Wobbly's topic in General Dog Discussion
I got Cougar from Staffy Rescue, she was 7. She is the most laid back, placid dog I have met. She doesn't bark at all, she only makes the WOO WOO sounds when she sees other dogs & wiggles her bottom & wags her tail madly, so I assumed she had no problems with other dogs. Alas, 2 weeks ago, someone brought their ACD to visit one of my neighbours & luckily Cougar was inside, because she went absolutely psycho, growling viciously & I am sure that if she had the chance, she would attack the dog. She originally came from Mildura, so I am guessing she had a bad experience with an ACD there. Luckily, that ACD is the only one I have seen in my area, so I'm hoping that the ACD doesn't visit here too often. -
Mornington Peninsula is a long way from Coldstream.

I love the look on the adult dog, it's like please, can someone take this annoying thing away from me.

An update, today he had his dog on lead when he walked to his car, his little girl came to say hello & I said, HI She, it's nice to see you on lead, seems the Ranger has got through to him. I am so glad I can now walk my girl, without worrying about his dog getting hurt.

Just When You Don't Have The Camera Handy
mantis replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
Reading this & the many other threads about the naughty things our dogs do, got me thinking. I like to think we are all responsible dog owners, but I'm sure a lot of dog behaviourists, must shake their heads in dismay, the way we let our dogs act at home. -
Stopped A Dog Attack This Morning...

because it's called redirected aggression- it can happen But not in the context suggested of a toddler running down the street ahead of their parent. That's the specific objection, not that redirected aggression is not possible. There is nothing about this particular incident that implies HA. The opposit if anything, since he let a stranger grab him by the collar and pull him off in the middle of a frenzy. Exactly & the OP said that he was really friendly, after she stopped the attack on the dog. To me that shows that it would not suddenly chase down & hurt a child, or human. -
That's great news & well done to the lad, he obviously knew a dog will follow anyone, anywhere for a treat.

 meanie. Maddie came to me as a foster in December 2010...and that was the last time I went to the loo on my own  Kenny always had to follow me to the loo, if I closed the door, he would scratch at it & howl. Unfortunately though, when he followed me in, he would sit next to the toilet & put his head on my lap. Cougar just comes in & sits next to the toilet, trying to see what is going in the toilet. -

because it's called redirected aggression- it can happen The post people are replying to, makes no mention of redirected aggression. They said, what if a small child was running ahead of it's parents, no mention of another dog. This type of stupid comment, is what gets peoples upset. -

I was going to say that as well, as if a dog doesn't know the difference between a dog & a child. -
I lived here for 15 months, but went to somewhere else for 6 months. I was the resident doggy sitter before I got Cougar, so all the dogs know me well. The little girl of the idiot, used to come & bark at my door, when he left her outside in the cold & rain, while he visited a neighbour, because she wouldn't let the dog into her unit. I would take her in & dry her & wait until the idiot came looking for her to take her back to his unit. Gawd I hate this man. I just have to hope that the Ranger can actually get him to do the right thing. Seeing as he is willing to lie to get his own way, I don't dare contacting the Office of Housing, who knows what lies he would tell them. Anyway, I got told by one of the other neighbours, that he is going away touring for awhile, it would be great if he never came back. BODY CORPORATE. There is no Body Corporate, because it is Public Housing, I would have to report him to the Office of Housing & I'm now too scared to do that, because he is such a liar & very nasty man. If you're not prepared to report him then I'm not sure there's anything that can be done. I'm hoping the results from the Ranger, will make him pull his head in. The last two days, I have hardly seen the dog loose, he just takes her to his car & then when he gets back, he takes her straight inside. If he reverts back to his old ways, I will just ring the Ranger again. I'm looking forward to his holiday.

Whenever someone mentions their dog and poo, I think of you.... Yep! Me too  Love zooming Scooter! And me, I love all the other pics as well, I wish I had a camera, will get one of my 2 legged kids take some shots of Cougar when they next visit. Then I just have to work out how to post them again, it's been so long since I've done it. I hate being old.

AAAAWWWWW your dog is so beautiful, though I don't share his love of cold weather, I love the heat.

She might end up in a better home.... So - is your dog reactive? Mine have been rushed by little fluffies and terriers. They usually change their mind when they get closer and realise that the odds are against them. I'm sure most dogs have some self preservation instincts. How has Cougar been with the other neighbours dogs? That might give you an idea on how she is likely to react. She is fine with the other dogs, they do bark at her, but only because they are excited, Cougar doesn't bark back, just keeps walking & sniffing. The dog in question has charged a kelpie who was visiting & if it hadn't been on a lead, the little girl would have been in trouble. The only time I have seen my dog react, was when a Cattle Dog came to visit, she went totally ballistic, luckily she was inside at the time, it really shocked me as she hardly ever makes any noise. I'm guessing that because she came from Mildura, that maybe she had a bad experience with a Cattle Dog there.
