Mantis, AWL Q'ld has a booklet called Pregnant Paws Program, for parents who are expecting a baby. The guidelines tell them how to keep both baby & pets safe when the bub comes home. There's a variety of ways you can get this booklet... including downloading. http://www.awlqld.com.au/education/animal-community-education-qld/pregnant-paws-program/ Just generally, a copy of this guide would be a great present to give to anyone who's pregnant & who has pets. Thank you, I have just emailed that link to my daughter.

I'm going to be telling my daughter about this tragic story. She is pregnant with her first child & has two out of control JRT's who are allowed to play bite people. When I told them they had to stop them from biting people, her OH said they are their dogs & they'll raise them the way they want, he said dogs were meant to be dogs, not controlled robots. I am so scared it's a tragedy waiting to happen.

My first thought too. Nothing stopping him from getting a dog, one that he chooses.

Sorry about your split up, it sounds very much the same as my first marriage. My ex had never owned a dog & didn't really want one, but I told him not having a dog was an option. I selected breed & was the one to go to the kennels to choose them. I did all the training, taking them to shows & looking after them. Sure he eventually fell in love with them, but it was a no brainer that I would be having the dogs. We shared our two legged kids though.

Leaving Clam Shells With Water In Dog Runs
mantis replied to mantis's topic in General Dog Discussion
This and for that reason we only have concrete troughs that the dogs cannot over turn or move if they empty them If dogs are strong enough to tip over a shell with water in it, then they must be able to get out from underneath an empty one. -
Leaving Clam Shells With Water In Dog Runs

My daughter lives in Cockatoo, so no chance of kids wandering in, plus they are in a dog run. I told her to put some plastic containers in the freezer tonight, so she can put some in the shell & some in their drinking bowl. -
It's going to be 39 in Melbourne tomorrow & I just spoke to my daughter & asked if she was leaving a clam shell in her dogs run, while she was at work. She said no, because her OH won't leave the dogs unsupervised with one. I said they aren't babies, they aren't going to drown, but she said her OH would still say no. I told her to slap her OH & just put the damn thing in there. Do other people leave water for their dogs to lie in on hot days when they aren't home?

Exactly, that's written into our leases. Anyway I've had no letters from Lawyers. He is only walking his dog off lead on weekends & at night again, so my girl is getting to walk around & get to know the other dogs. If he starts letting her off lead all the time again, I'll ring the Ranger & also tell him about him threatening to sue me.

Cougar had half a chicken frame for breaky, a couple of biscuits for lunch, then the over cooked lamb I bought from the new takeaway shop yesterday. OH & a few treaties during the day.

Advice For My Sister - Issue With Neighbour
mantis replied to Trisven13's topic in General Dog Discussion
Exactly, yet us dog owners have to be responsible to make sure our dogs aren't a nuisance, shame the same law doesn't apply to cats owners. -
my thought too, great way to get your dog killed, especially if it is allowed to roam around on it's own, as it seems to do. Exactly, if you want to have your dog look like a lion, keep the bloody thing on lead. I'm so sick of off lead dogs.

I was thinking that maybe your dog tore up a six pack of toilet paper in your backyard, like my Kenny did. Trust me, that takes a lot longer to clean up.
-
He hasn't let his dog off lead again today, so Cougar got another walk, met the other dogs here on lead & then went for a walk around the block, now she is sound asleep on the couch.

I don't have a car.

People used to say that Kenny was the most sorrowful looking dog after he got told off, but he had nothing on that cutie. The pout is priceless. I remember being told when I was young, if your bottom lip hangs down anymore, you will trip over it.

All of my dogs regardless of their name have many variations and nick names that I call them, some are even longer than their actual name  Not always nice ones, depending on what mischief they have got up to.

Yes, Mantis is going to extra lengths to avoid her dog being put in a situation. I agree with your advice Sheridan. We all like to be in control of our own dogs and who they get to meet. Mantis feels like she is losing that control when she walks out her front door. Living in a unit shouldn't mean we can't decide what circumstances we allow our dogs to interact with others. Let's help Mantis regain some control if we can. Thanks Sheridan & Greymate. After having Kenny turn from a confident & friendly dog, into a total basket case, fear aggressive dog, because of off lead dogs attacking him. I couldn't stand the same thing happening to Cougar, she is such a sweet girl & I want her to stay that way. His dog was back on lead today when he went out, so Cougar had a nice walk, happily walking past other dogs also on lead. I just hope it lasts more than two weeks this time.

OH, now we are talking other type of pet names. I had a Rat called Pookie, a Guinea Pig Bert, named after Bert Newton & a Diamond Python called Lurch, named after the butler in the Addams Family TV show.

I am, but that means my girl is a prisoner & can't go for walks, it's unfair on her.

No it's underneath the tap in our communal area, he hasn't done it since the last time, so I think he's given up on that. I also haven't seen his dog for two days, he must be taking her out to the back communal area & isn't taking her up the shops. I sense something is afoot, waiting to see what happens next. The stress is doing my head in.

My Ex partner who owned Kenny's mum Sandy, the same as my name. The number of times people asked his dogs name & he replied Sandy, he used to get a mouthful, because people thought he was talking about me.
-
My first dog I named Mitzi, can't remember how I chose that. My two Cairns were Hobo & Sara. My heart dog who is no longer with us I named Kenny, after the South Park character, as he was the runt of the litter & the rest of the litter used to beat him up. My rescue has had two names, the first was Brandy & now it's Cougar.

Yes he is an idiot but i find this odd. Why do you report him yet these ones have dogs offleash as well.?? I gather either there all breaking the rules so surely then if one is an issue shouldn't the rule apply to them all?? There is the rule of "effective control". Seems to me the others are demonstrating effective control where the other is not. I am personally not concerned about people 'breaking the law' by not having their dog/s on lead when by law they should - provided they have effective control and demonstrate courtesy and consideration towards easily and readily preventing their dogs from encroaching my space without invite, I'm satisfied. Exactly my feelings. I knew these people walked their dogs off lead & didn't have a problem with it. But because I have a rescue dog, who I don't how she would respond to another dog getting in her face, I don't want the other dogs getting hurt. This guy doesn't care, when I first asked him to keep his dog away from mine for that reason, he just told me to get stuffed, he'll do what he wants. He's a totally irresponsible owner, he even takes her up the shops off lead & leaves her to roam around outside while he's in doing his shopping. One day someone picked her up & took her home, fortunately the people posted signs giving their phone number, so he got her back the next day. But he was furious, because he said they stole her, he went to the Police, but they weren't interested. I fear for that little dogs safety, with an owner like him.
