Within the heart of every dog nomatter what the breed or how they were bred lies the singular desire to be loved which is why they are mans best friend!!

It is a sad situation and being dog lovers preservation of life far outweighs the alternative, but there is a line and not every dog can be saved and rehomed. A classic litter of BYB Rotties not even the owners want...............health checks, genetics, temperament, who's the sire, hip scores etc etc. Is that the right place to obtain a Rotty pup for the best opportunity to adopt a quality dog???.

What's right or wrong in these instances is a very hard call

It's been said, and I'll say it again, these pups were pts because of BREED!

I too agree the real message isn't getting across...especially as there's no mention of them even being 'BYB' it simply states they were PTS due to the fact they considered 'Rottweillers' in general tend to be quite dangerous!!

From what I've read I'd be more inclined to think the owners were Back Yard Bred!!

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to draw attention to a gorgeous BC girl called Dizzy who is in desperate need at Kurri pound.

She is only about 12months old and of slight build which I think would advantage her for speed if trained for agility..

I took Dizzy out for a long walk and and to see how she meets n greets and honestly can't find a problem with her only frustration at being impounded. She is still only young and a little excitable, very alert, walks well on the lead, wasn't too interested in a tennis ball yet zones on squeaky toys.

Well here is a pic of our Rescued girl Polly who as an ex racer was unfamiliar to almost everything around the home especially living with cats... this photo to me shows their very sweet inner nature and ability to adapt to the ways of a normal loving home...

We were given fantastic advice by Daisy on how to help them adjust and Polly lives happily with 5 other dogs, 5 cats, 3 kids and a Corella!!!

I always use the Fido's Puppy version in the shampoo because it is safe to use on puppies & even kittens.

With the Fido's rinse I always have some made up in a spray bottle to use in between baths if need be though if ever dealing with pups n kittens especially you must rub it through then pat towel dry them otherwise kittens can be at risk from licking too much of it. It can even be used diluted as a spray for birds against lice etc..

I add it to the final rinse for the bedding too,If placed in concentrate form on a cotton ball and held on a tick, the tick will drop off!!

Its great stuff with an awesome smell!!!

Hi All,

Friends of mine have just been given 2 dogs from a relative of theirs - a 2yr old Rotti boy and a BCxKelpie girl of about the same age.

My friend asked me to go out there and assess them for her and give my thoughts on whether they need anything in particular.In my opinion the Rotti boy is a bit underweight so I said this to her straight up and asked what he's being fed - she told me the previous owners had written down their diet for her & mentioned chicken necks every 2nd day and told me that he's on a special dry food as he gets a skin allergy.(I can't remember the name of it for the life of me but it starts with 'C' I'm sure). There was no evidence of any allergy so I'm figuring its under control but I honestly don't think he's getting enough of anything for his size as he curves in toward his hips quite a bit.

My friends are not short of money and will not spare cost on whatever he needs so I'd like suggestions on what is best for this boy remembering his apparent skin allergy must be considered.

I'm glad the dogs are now with my friends as the Rotti boy didn't even recognise grade 1 liver treats made by a local butcher that I took with out there with me.

The BCxKelpie girl on the other hand looks great so whatever their food is suits the metabolism of a working dog much better..

I'm just wondering, the EPO capsules you can buy at health food stores.. would it be OK to open one of them and put on their food or could that be harmful???

You also need to realise a Border Collie has a double coat for a reason it insulates the dog against the cold as well as the heat. I have found dogs with no undercoat are more effected by the heat then a dog with a correct double coat.

I have clipped one of my older dogs 12 years old because she doesn't like to be brush but the coat grew back a yucky brown colour and was curly and its stayed curly. Never again

I would never ever clip a border collie again, just get a stripping knife and strip most of the bulk out of the coat if you want a clipped dog go get yourself a short coated dog.

Thanks everyone for your ideas though I don't think muzzling is her best option as she was fear aggressive when she was younger so new things she is still very uncertain about and I think a muzzle would definetely heighten her anxiety level & I agree with Dru won't help overcome it. I think continuing the gentle approach will be best but with a much stronger no nonsense attitude from me like I do with my young mischievous BC boy Beau.

I guess due to her being my troubled child furkid though she has made incredible progress I still tip toe around with her a bit in techniques of doing things. I'm forever looking for ways I can make things that seem to trouble her be obviously no trouble at all so that she can enjoy all the great things in life like my others BC's and feel she hasn't got a care in the world either... but I know, all good things take time.

I need advice on how to get a highly strung 10m old BC girl to relax and enjoy a hydrobath and brush??

Yes she is mine and yes she has been bathed regularly but still hates even getting a brush.. to put her in a hydrobath I always come out the wettest and to even attampt to use the dryer I take my life into my own hands...LOL

Well no she's not quite that bad but she does the machine gun mouth snapping like crazy at it nomatter how far away I hold it. Problem is I find the dryer after a bath really helps get out the old hair that she doesn't allow me to get as well as my other BC's by brushing. With the constant wet/dry weather we've had with storms and the fact my dogs enjoy running around in the rain too, her hair on her thighs was almost matted because she won't settle to allow me to brush it out properly. I've tried different brushes and always make the mood nice & calm but to no avail...

Any advice??

Great people, private room and they use Fido's Products in their hydrobath!! If you have a long haired dog like me (BC's) take a lil extra shampoo with you but otherwise its just like a carwash and for roughly $6-$10 I can have a BC washed, flea rinsed & dried!!! And if you need help the staff 'really' don't mind getting wet -

BARGAIN !!!!!
