Am thinking of taking my small Maltese into the Melbourne CBD yesterday and taking the train instead of the car. According to this I shouldn't have a problem: http://ptv.vic.gov.au/getting-around/luggage-bikes-and-animals/animals-on-public-transport/ However I'd feel silly putting a muzzle on her (assuming they even make them in her size?) Has anybody here had any experience taking their small dog on Melbourne trains?

Interesting. Mine does that occasionally but I'd always put it down to a dogs version of "furball" caused by hair in her mouth. Now I know better :)

:D :) She's as sweet as she looks ..... the best natured dog I've known. I know you should never really trust dogs with young children or the elderly but Katie just never even looks like reacting however poked or prodded by humans. She's recently been inducted as a Lort Smith therapy dog and it is indeed her calling. I'd love to post some pics of her with elderly residents but privacy concerns prevent me Here she is waiting to go home after nursing home visit.

With respect, I disagree. Some reasons: 1. I trust my vet. She knows my dogs medical history and I respect her professional opinion. 2. I did my own research but did not find any worrying incidence of harmful side-effects of this treatment. 3. Katie may not have age on her side but she is still in excellent health and has never shown a reaction to any medication ever in her life. She recently had most of her teeth extracted with no complications whatsoever and recovered from the anaesthetic better than most dogs a fraction of her age.

My female 13 y/o MalteseX has started occasionally sleeping with her tongue half hanging out of the front of her mouth. Seems only to have started since she recently had most of her teeth extracted. Is this something I should be concerned about? She pulls it back in when she wakes :)

Optimum dry food (adult, small breeds variety) Roo mince meat (she wont eat it raw so I cook it a bit in a pan with no oil) Applaws (tin) "Natural Dog Food" chicken breast variety Beneful (tin) "Chicken Medley" I used to give her a nightly bowl of milk which she really loves but lately I've not been giving it to her in case it's feeding the yeast.

Thanks everyone. I've started her on half a capsule per day. How long before I should (hopefully) expect an improvement? I'm also going to start her on Apple Cider Vinegar / Hydrogen Peroxide spray on her skin.

The Vetafarm Probotic powder wasn't in a fridge when I bought it. Maybe I should turf it and buy Inner Health Plus capsules. Does anybody know if the human variety from a standard chemist is ok and how many to give a small dog? ==

I've had Katie on Vetafarm Probotic powder for about a week, early days I know but if anything her skin yeast infection is getting worse. Not sure if I should stop the powder and put her on Inner Health Plus capsules. As much as she likes her nightly serving of milk I'm going to stop giving it to her. My local pet supplier has urged me to stop bathing her in Malasab "too harsh on dog" and instead soak affected parts of her body in diluted apple cider vinegar. ===
