I thought that has been the case for a year or more? Maybe that's in America... -
I Need Help With Trialling A Very Stubborn Breed!
BigBen replied to Miss Squish's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Just my thought!... All my animals are trained using food - that's my dog, birds and rats... The trick is to find something that's absolutely irresistible to the animal... For my dog it's liver, for my birds it's sunflower seeds, and my rats it's peas or corn.. -
So... Ben went to the vet... The wound is closed at the moment, and the vet didn't think it was worth it to do anything about it - he spent quite a bit of time examining the ear - ... I agreed with him... So.... what does this stupid woman do, when she comes home? Starts playing with water, which causes a lot of head shaking, and of course, it start bleeding again... - Maybe I'll grow up soon... I'm only 59 The vet didn't charge me for the consultation... Nice..

Maybe if small dogs got the same training while puppies as large dogs these things wouldn't happen... I've only ever been bitten once by a dog and that was a mini poodle - I suppose that's why I like big dogs..

Thanks for your replies... I tried many times to wrap a bandage around his head and ear yesterday, but it wouldn't stay on... I'll be taking Ben to the vet today, as he's due for his monthly heartworm tablet... As soon as he shakes he head, it start bleeding again, so I'll have the vet to have a look at him - with or without insurance...

Ben was playing/teasing with the rats... At the same time he's teething and have a few teeth just starting to come out... When I saw blood I thought it was from his teeth... but when I saw blood on his paws I thought he'd cut one... The blood was pouring from his ear - he has a large rip, and it wouldn't stop bleeding... The floor was covered in blood, so was all the walls in the house... I called everyone I know for assistance, but no one was available... My ex husband came over, and the bleeding stopped, as soon as he parked outside... Good! When he left an hour later, the bleeding started again, but only for a few minutes. I used up all my first aid kit to try and stop the blood flow... Got at sore back, because Ben would not sit still... The whole house looked like a crime scene, and Ben is outside eating half a chicken... The other half I'm cooking for myself, even though I don't feel like eating... Last night I paid for insurance for Ben... but I don't know if that would have helped me today... Anyway, Ben didn't go to the vet, because the bleeding had stopped. Maybe it looked a lot worse than what it was...

I am sooo shocked! Surely even Vets know that heat/cold packs needs to be wrapped up in towels or something, before being applied...

Where in Brissie are you? Rochedale produce at Springwood sell it for $29.80 a bag I'm in Redbank Plains, and buy my dog food from Goodna Produce, only 10 minutes away... -
Uhmmm... maybe she's just waiting for you to feed her what she REALLY likes...

Eagle Pack Power Vs Great Barko

I am also currently trying Great Barko... after searching on this forum... Ben loves it, but like all my previous dogs, will eat anything. I especially like the price... $31 for 22kg... -
Yes, I'm the same... I come home from nightshift, go to bed and listen to the birds (Corella and Quaker), who are pretty loud... They actually put me to sleep..
-
I mostly only look at training and behaviour threads, and then I get a 'Never mind'..

Who is Dr Chet???

That's so funny.... I use Frontline... Many years ago I had cats with lots of fleas, and I used Fronline on them... The fleas had found their way into my bed, so that's where I put the cats... Fleas disappeared from both cats and bed...

"i Am Not Doing This To Please Anyone!"
BigBen replied to Tonymc's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I think all mammals works for survival and rewards... I had a job in administration, and I hated the boss... I stayed there and did my job to the best of my ability (which was more than the boss had).. I did it because I got paid, I could feed my family, and I could do things I wouldn't have been able to, if I didn't get that much money. I didn't work there to please the boss... Animals work for survival and rewards as well... If the animal is rewarded for a job well done, he's likely to repeat that, just as we do... -
Ben also mouths, but he doesn't bite down... Somehow he knows not to mouth or jump up on my small grand children, who are between 3 and 6... He's still got his puppy teeth, so they are very sharp, and does hurt when he's being rough, even though he doesn't bite down.

Didn't you just rehome a Samoyed just a couple a weeks ago after having had him/her for only a few days? Now you're doing the same with the Lab... No dog or puppy can settle into a home in a few days. I think they deserve a chance to show their potential.
-
Uhmm... they look like two completely different breeds... Coats, eyes, ears...

Please We Need Some Advice- Quick
BigBen replied to Samodor's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I think you've made the right choice.. Some dogs are just not suited to be with other dogs... -
Ben is not at all aggressive, but due to teething he does mouth a lot... I have treats ready all the time, and when he sits beside me, I pat him on the head and around his mouth... If he doesn't open his mouth, while I do this, he gets a treat... He quickly worked that out.. Being 4.5 months old he's still rather boisterous with my grand children (aged 2-6), but he does not jump up or mouth them..
-
I tried the bark collar on a rescue I had (unfortunately had to be pst due to people aggression)... The only thing that happened was that he learned to count..
-
I think I would take the animal to be euthanised before it got that bad.

WOW! I have been looking for something like this for ages... Thank you...
