  1. I usually lay on the ground, be prepared to get trampled have a really fast shutter speed, at least 1/2000th but I've gone as fast as 1/5000th! To get such fast speeds you need to let lots of light into your camera, which will mean having the aperture pretty wide open and possibly a high ISO depending on your camera and lens. I hope that makes sense. I wish you weren't so far away, I love taking pics of running dogs. Hmmm great tips, thanks :D not sure about the getting trampled bit, especially by a thundering herd of Salukis You could do a road trip Kirislin, and come photograph all the South Aussie coursers?? :D I'll let Asha know now, she needs a few weeks to get her groove on
  2. By the way Kirislin, what are your secret tips for getting those wonderful coursing photos you take? so we know for the next outing here :D
  3. Hmmm I fear our Asha won't look as graceful as that Pharaoh in the picture but you never know!
  4. Fabulous photos Jacqui!! Looks like you all had an amazing morning :D Definitely let us know when the next one might be organised, and we'll be there!
  5. Esky, tried to PM you but think your inbox is full? I've PM'd you Bully
  6. I've seen some pics on FB now, and they look awesome!!! I think someone is trying to post some on DOL shortly hopefully There was a Bull terrier, which I'm assuming was yours Bully..she was flying! and the bloodhound's facial expressions were priceless in the photos
  7. Ok,I heard the lure coursing was amazing fun....so pictures please!!! :D And I am hanging out to hear when the next one is going to be organised, given we couldn't make it today!
  8. On the map it looks like it's the Pt Wakefield road end of Park Road? If you come off Pt Wakefield road, should be on your left...well that's what it looks like on the map anyway! Goodluck :D edited to add..looks like it's before you hit Tozer road on the left (coming from Pt Wakefield road, on the left)
  9. Sorry Hafhafa, I would reeeeeaaaly love to but OH has planned housey/gardeny stuff for us to take advantage of the spring weather and yes I've tried to do the persuasion thing a number of times But I am dead keen to go next time round! Have a fab fab time, and lots of piccies please! :D
  10. I just had a google search, and found the homepage of the club who runs the track there....if you look at the "racing" page, I found videos of some of the races - which show the track, the lure and what it will be like (I guess :D )....looks pretty exciting! Greyhound owners, trainers and breeders association of SA edited to add: I would imagine you could start the lure from further in, so smaller dogs and newies wouldn't have to overexert themselves (and risk injuries etc) to start off with
  11. Do we now how much it will cost per run? We won't be able to make it on Sunday, but really look forward to pics and reports from the day!! and definitely will be there next time round Well done Jacqui835 for organising
  12. Awwwww, clever boy Wilbur! and doing it all so cutely as well :D
  13. Don't forget the comp for hardest to recapture at the end of the course!!! Somehow, I reckon my Saluki BIATCH would be up for that!! Sonia PS Thanks, Keshwar, for the links... nope, I think MY saluki would be up for that one But seriously, I guess it will depend upon a few different factors - using an existing straight/one way track? or thinking about an open field course? Existing straight tracks would be generally enclosed anyway, so hopefully no chance of dogs going AWOL! :D Open field actual coursing would be much more difficult if the dog doesn't have a good recall....not sure how the course could be securely fenced? And that would probably be a potential issue for some sighthounds (including mine) I'm sure. My Saluki would be one that would need to run on his own as well I think, as running with others would just send his prey drive over the top As far as I know there are no existing open field courses in SA, so if someone sets one up there are lots of issues to consider (with public liability insurance being only one of them I guess). Sounds like we have a movement going on in lil ol' Adelaide here!
  14. Will do ;) could be an excuse for a Saluki get together!
  15. I know that the Ridgeback club sometimes does lure coursing days (straight track) for their members..obviously for Ridgies, but I did get an invite to go with my two sighthounds quite a while ago as I knew some of the members (unfortunately I couldn't make it on the day). Apart from that, I did enquire once with the Greyhound owners, breeders and trainers association of SA about their straight track lure coursing. Apparently other breeds might be welcome, when the greys weren't racing. I didn't follow it up any further though. If anyone finds anything, I'll be watching with great interest as I've looked for ages and haven't been able to find anything :D
  16. She is BEAUTIFUL. I have a not so secret desire to own one of these beauties one day. I think it is the ears that do me over Aww thanks Woofen She's matured and filled out quite a bit since that pic, but the ears are still there Pharaohs really are a gorgeous breed!
  17. Hah! what a coincidence, as OH and I were just chatting last night about this We are in the hills too, and the surrounding land is usually jumping with bunnies and some hares. The suicidal rabbits who zoom directly in front of us whilst out walking the dogs (on lead) makes for interesting "enrichment"! and sore arms from the lunging! Back to topic, I'd like to know an answer too but suspect that as long as they look healthy it shouldn't be an issue? :D
  18. What fab pics! Looks like you all had a great time
  19. We used to go to Rainbow Farm, and it was fantastic for our needs until they acquired the free roaming goats who had access to all areas. Not a good mix at all with dogs with any sort of prey drive, so just be aware. They might give a dog "a run for its money", but it could end in tears all round. Not a big criticism, just saying it no longer met our needs. To answer the OPs question, a secure, fully fenced yard is really important for me when it comes to going on holidays with our dogs...and only second to the need to have the dogs inside. There's nothing more tiring (for both us and the dogs) than the need to have them on lead every time you step out the front/back door, even just for toileting.
  20. Yep! That's Al Muzdaher Farousi Razeel, or Razz, to his friends. My Mabby's brother. Ah hah! Thought so :-) oops my previous post was a bit late then!
  21. Typical Salukis! LOL. I imagine they could've run until everyone else got bored and went home :-) they're the original endurance hounds. One of the DOLers on here owns a litter mate to the Bahraini boy (I think), so could probably tell you more about desert bred salukis if she sees this post :-)
  22. Fab pics! That saluki looks familiar, and gorgeous too :-)
  23. I'm still trying to find a really good one as well in the Mt Barker area (one who doesn't push particular products or yearly vaccinations), so will be watching with interest :D I've heard differing views on most of the ones in the Hills area, so it may be just a case of trying one and seeing if they suit you?
  24. Hi Cassie, I know I've seen the ad in the monthly Dogs SA journal but can't remember exactly where the training is held. I'm thinking maybe Flaxley, just down from Mt Barker?? not sure though. I'll check the journal when I get home tonight and post where it is, unless anyone else posts before then. Good luck with showing! :D
