Silky terriers are great little dog, they don't shed and love to snuggle up with you on the couch. They are reasonably active but a run around the back yard chasing a ball will give them enough excercise for the day. As for small dog aggression it can be a training issue as in any terrier breed, they just have to be socialised properly and taught not to get aggressive.

I use a heat lamp for my silky pups, I find it's better then a heat pad because it seems to keep puppies warmer all over. I hang mine about 3 feet above the whelping box, warm enough for mum without overheating her. I only use mine if it's very cold as I find that the pups snuggle up to mum to get warm and will drink while they snuggle up. I'm in Ballarat so in winter it gets cold in the spare bedroom as I only have heating in the lounge.

So sorry to hear about the pups, I had a first timer lose her pups early once, was lucky enough to have a new born puppy to put on her. She loved that baby even though it was a completely different breed. All I can say is don't pamper her too much as she will pick up on your feelings and get more depressed. Try to keep routine as normal as possible.

Not sure I would be thinking clearly either, with my legs being mauled by a croc I think I would be doing anything to get away too. Not that I don't feel for the dog but self preservation would be top priority in my mind as well.

I said male, just got the puppy of my dreams last week. He will be shown and used for breeding later. I have two litters at the moment and as per usual most people want females and as there were only 3 females in the two litters (plus I am keeping one) quite a few missed out. There were lots of reasons (we always had females, males cock their legs everywhere etc) but the best one I heard was from a young girl who told me that her boyfriend said that males poo more then females lol. I have always said if I was to have just one pet it would be a male, they are a lot more tolerant and cuddly then the females in my breed. Anky

I just bought an OKS 4 berth today So far so good lol but it's well made and light weight, fits easily into my Ford station wagon. Anky

If he was mine I would put him in with a bitch in season and just leave him to it. I'm sure he will remember how to do it after a while especially with no one around for him to rely on. Even if you stand where he can't see you, the bitch should be able to encourage him to mate. Sometimes we just interfere too much I think. Anky

Sounds like one very spoilt Min Pin to me, this started from when he was with the breeder. None of my pups are allowed to bite like that, some may mouth but this is discouraged from a very early age. I know of a few like this too Nekhbet, although small they certainly have an attitude. At 5 months he is no longer a baby really, he knows what he wants and knows how to get it. Biting is not something they grow out of. Anky

Holly has just had a litter of 4 but has inverted nipples, there are only the two back ones that are ok at this stage. Is there anything I can do with the others?

Well another litter born here, Holly had 2 girls and 2 boys this afternoon. All doing ok at the moment but holly seems to have inverted nipples, the two back ones are fine. Anyone got any ideas?

Well done, wow 7 boys. Do whippets always have such large litters? Can't help with the eating gone troppo, mine always eat me out of house and home right from the start, I do give them egg yolk and milk while they are whelping and when they are finished. They love it!!!

I have a bitch who will stand and ready but as soon as the dog mounts she freaks out, she has had a litter but missed last season as I didn't hold her. She is the only one of mine that I have to hold each time to get a mating. Perhaps try to hold her head and other hand under her stomach to hold her up lol.

You're not on your own, my sister bought a Beagle from a backyard breeder, it has major temperament problems!

Have you checked out the Australian Silky Terrier? They are great for people with allergies as their hair is the same PH level as human hair. They don't shed and are easy to groom. Good little watch dogs but are easy to train not to be yappers. I had one that we used to chase sheep in the yards, great little worker she was, very easy to train.

All pups fine this morning, little girl attached constantly in fact I don't think any of them have let go of a teat since they were born lol. Tried to take Gem to the toilet this morning but she refuses to budge. 4 little black and tan blobs

Thank you pap, hard though it is sometimes it's for a reason. I knew she was big but 6 pups at approx 165 gms each was huge!
