  1. Hi all Dogs Qld is now closed at the moment so I cant call them but can someone please tell me if they accept scanned copies (printed out) of the Limited Register Agreement Forms. I have a puppy buyer who is currently holidaying overseas so they can only scan and email a copy of the papers. Thanks a million!
  2. I loovvee my Bunnings puppy runs/wire compost bins lol! Although it hasn't had much use outside because its been raining quite a bit, we use it inside to partition off the rooms when cleaning out their whelping room etc. So handy!!
  3. Well I visited Bunnings and they had the wire compost bins! Omg they were way cheaper than the pens on Ebay and I tripled the size for less money! I was so excited! We set it up in the afternoon and used cable ties as suggested - thank goodness we bought them because those stupid curly wire things were a pain in the bum! We took the little ones outside and all they did was cry lol so back into the nice air con they went Thanks for suggesting those Shelby and Oakway! You saved me a heap of money!!
  4. I might just pay bunnings another visit today, fingers crossed they have some in!
  5. I had a look at one of our bunnings store here, but couldnt' find the wire compost bins How long ago did you buy yours? That definetely would be a much cheaper method! If I could only get my hands on some.
  6. There are 7 puppies in the litter. So the whole area would be 2.4m x 2.4m. Do you think that would be too small?
  7. Hi guys I'm just about to buy a puppy playpen/run from ebay but can't decide which would be a better size for a litter of Labrador puppies. There is a 30" and a 36" high one, I'm leaning towards getting the 30" but am afraid it might be too small. They are 1.2 mtrs square so I'm going to purchase 2 and join them together. Anyone have a pen with similar size pups? The pups would only be out there for short periods of time during the day. It's mainly going to be used to confine them to the back yard so they don't go wandering too far and to also keep them away from the big doggies at times. Thanks in advance!
  8. I cleaned the little boy last night where he had some dried up gunk - kind of looked like puss. The gunk/puss was fully dried and once he was cleaned there was no sign of redness, inflammation or any kind of skin infection whatsoever. It was very weird! I checked the area a few times today and nothing has reappeared. I'll be keeping a close eye on him though over the next few days to make sure nothing strange is happening. He is a happy boy (besides crying when hot) and he is one of the largest puppies in our litter of 7.
  9. Thank you everyone for the suggestions! I will definitely go and get a couple big cordial bottles from the supermarket this afternoon! At the moment we have vet bedding in there and might try putting some towels or get marine carpet to keep the box a bit cooler for them. Thank you again! Hopefully I will be able to get a decent nights sleep tonight!
  10. Hi guys This is our second litter where we have had problems with puppies being hot after feeding from mum. Once they have had their feed they cry constantly! The only way to make them stop is by putting them on our floor outside of the whelping box. Our pups are now 2 weeks old and we have had to have the air con (25degrees) on for them 24/7 because of the heat. They are fine after they have been put on the floor for 20 mins or so and settle immediately after being put there. Once they are settled and fast asleep they go back into their box and the cycle starts again. It's driving me mad though because i am constantly having to do this every 2-3 hrs every day and my eyes are about to pop out of my head due to the lack of sleep! I am also a bit concerned about having the air con on all day. It looked like a couple of the pups developed some kind of hot spot which seems to have healed by itself. Please help! I have posted a similar question a few mths ago but am concerned leaving a welt towel or bottle in their box with the air con on as it may get too chilly then? And the risk of developing more hot spots with the humidity and wet fur. What would u do? Thanks in advance!
  11. Thank you We have 2 chocolate boys, 4 black girls and 1 black boy. They are gorgeous! Mum and puppies are all doing extremely well
  12. Thanks everyone. I know it isn't 100% accurate but it should give me an idea of numbers... Don't count on it I know of some told expect 6, they got 9. Others expect 4, they got 7. Ultrasound - confirms pregnancy but is not accurate enough for numbers. Xrays are best taken at 8 weeks to determine numbers - with that said, they to can also be wrong! With our last litter both the ultrasound and x-rays were incorrect. We had an ultrasound on our girl at day 31, the vet said around 5 puppies but couldn't get a good count because of gas and told us to come back in a few days. We went back and she could only see 2 puppies and the rest as black blobs. She went on to tell us that it looked like our bitch was reabsorbing the puppies. So we went to another vet and got an xray done at day 52 to confirm pups were still there and the vet counted 5. We ended up having 7 puppies. I believe that ultrasounds cannot be used accurately for counts, and it really depends on the skill of your vet. Unfortunately ours gave us a scare..and all for nothing.
  13. Thanks to everyone again for their responses Luckily enough we haven't had to use any methods for reviving puppies with this litter. Mum whelped 7 gorgeous babies with no troubles at all
  14. Well guys, our girl had her puppies yesterday...she ate breakfast and lunch as usual, showed no signs until just a couple of hours before hand when she started digging in the garden and we saw white discharge coming from her. She wasted no time then whelping 7 gorgeous little bundles of fur So I guess she wanted to keep us in suspense and waited until the last minute to show signs that she was ready to have the little bubbies. She was a day early in her previous litter, this time she was a day late lol so there really has been no consistency with her.
  15. Hello everyone Just wondering if anyone has experienced their bitch showing different signs of coming into labour than she did with a previous litter? For example...if your bitch stopped eating 24hours before coming into labour, temperature drop etc, would you expect her to show the same signs with her next litter? Our girl is now overdue, with her first litter she stopped eating 24hours before giving birth, her temperature dropped, she started nesting but this time round her temperature has dropped this morning to 36.8 but is still eating normally and looks completely happy within herself. I hope that I'm not missing any signs, she hasnt started to nest so I'm not sure if the temperature drop is an accurate sign that she will whelp in the next 24 hours. Thanks again
  16. Hello everyone Thank you all for the responses, and please keep them coming Well our girl is deciding to not have her litter when due lol...bugger this waiting game is torture! I called our Vet and they wouldn't prescribe Dopram V to us :D so we bought some Brandy instead and hopefully if needed, that will do the trick as well as all the other methods described - fingers crossed everything will be smooth sailing though!
  17. Hi everyone, I'm expecting my girl to go into labor in the next couple of days. Last time we had a litter there were 2 stillborn pups and we want to ensure that this time if there are any (fingers crossed there isnt!) that we do everything possible to help revive them. I've gone through the forums and found some use brandy, Rescue Remedy (is that the stuff from the chemist?), Shock Method (hot bath & then cold), Swinging motions, Vigorous rubbing etc. I was wondering what methods other breeders use to revive puppies or find most effective? And how long do you work on a pup to help revive it? My vet also mentioned putting a tiny granule of coffee on the puppy's tongue..anyone heard or done this one? Thanks in advance.
  18. Hi guys Just wondering how many breeders use both nutrigel and a calcium supplement (sandoz etc) while your bitch is in labor? Would you use one or the other or both? Thank you!
  19. Hi guys, This post is sort of in conjunction with my aborbing puppies one but I wanted to know what the latest you have had an ultrasound done on your bitch to get an estimate on puppy numbers. Our girl will be around Day 42 of her pregnancy if I get her done again this week with the vet I prefer. But if the pups will be too big by that stage then it might be just a waste of money. I'm not sure if I'd get an x-ray done because a few vets have advised me that its not preferable to do on a bitch unless you detect there may be a problem with the bitch or puppies. Your thoughts on this one?? Thank you!
  20. Thanks everyone for your replies I read the Progesterone thread and it was very interesting. Unfortunately where we will the prog tests need to be sent away and they take days to come back. I'll be asking my vet about it though. I spoke to the vet again this afternoon and she suggested getting another ultrasound done in a week to see if there is any more change. I probably will get someone else to do the actual ultrasound next time though because I don't feel confident in her doing it again. When bitches absorb, do they stop getting bigger in the latter stages of pregnancy? Or do they look like they're still holding pups but just don't go into labour?
  21. Thanks Leanne - as far as I remember the empty black blobs/sacks looked rounded. When we saw the sacks with the puppies you could definetley see there was a pup in there. Gosh, I hope that she doesnt reabsorb the whole litter if she has started :D
  22. Hi guys Our girl went for an ultrasound at Day 30 of her pregnancy. The first ultrasound detected approx 6 puppies but there was a lot of gas so it made it hard for the vet to confirm numbers so she gave us a complimentary ultrasound in a weeks time. We had the second ultrasound done 6 days later and the vet could only detect 2 or 3 puppies. We saw at least 1 black blob (looked like an empty sac) and the vet said that there looks like there may be something wrong and gave her some antibiotics in case there is an infection. We are all assuming that she is either a. absorbing the puppies or b. she was hiding them really well around her rib area. Has anyone had experiences with their bitch absorbing? If yes, did she absorb all of the puppies? Could it be that the vet may not have been experienced enough in doing ultrasounds? (that's what i'm hoping!). This will be our girls second litter. First litter had 8 puppies - all detected easily with an ultrasound (different vet did it though). Out of the 8 puppies though she had 1 which looked like it was mummified and the last 2 to pass were stillborn. Our girl is up to date with all of her vaccinations, worming etc. She is in perfect condition etc so we're not sure why this is happening. Thank you in advance!
  23. Hi all Last week our girl was mated on day 12 of her cycle and again on day 14. Both matings resulted in a tie. Since the mating I have noticed that she is still showing signs of bleeding (watery blood colour). She has been mated before and I cant remember this happening with her last time. She shows no sign of distress, pain etc and is still flagging to our other bitches, so I haven't consulted our vet just yet. Is it normal for a bitch to still bleed this late in her cycle? Could it be a sign that the mating was not successful? Thanks in advance!
  24. Hi everyone Could someone please be able to send me a copy of their stud agreement. We know what we want to say in our agreement but are stuck for wording! Thank you in advance
  25. Thanks everyone for their tips. I'm definetely going to try the lino, it sounds much easier to clean Last time I fed them outside and let them run around in the afternoon while I was home. They would only go back in at night when it got really dark but they still liked to poo and pee inside the little buggers! lol.
