  2. Oooooh, nice!! Im "researching" my next dog - and wanting to get to know Vizslas and Dalmatians! I may come and annoy you CnR - hmmm, may even bring cake! Rat That'd be good! I was looking at her dogs on DOL last night, thinking the whole time Lee was a man, then when I saw her photo I was like "oh, of course, Lee is a lady" Duh Given their temperament, I guess they would be fun dogs to show!! Lots of enthusiasm and energy! Rat

  4. Re the Western Classic - anyone going with Dalmatians on Friday night??? Rat
  5. Sorry you havent been well Mirawee! Hope youre feeling much better soon! Good luck with the training with Banjo! Im sure hell be a snap to train , he is after all a Kelpie! Rat
  6. Hi HM and welcome to the Forum! Merlin is a cutie, love his eyes! Hope to see you in here in the future. Mirawee - hows the Birthday Boy going?? Rat
  7. So...... ......is there a difference between the German Koolie and Australian Koolie?? Or is it just Koolie? Rat
  8. We (when I say we, I mean a group of people-not me personally!!) started a Fly ball group in Bunbury which while I went was fun. I took our first ridgy along to train, my friend took her BC and poodle I think? What fun - trying to teach a ridgy to run & jump: easy, jump on the box: easy, grab the ball: sort or easy, run back over the jumps with the ball in her mouth: FAIL ..............It was fun while it lasted!! Im sure the lady(ies) that started it has Aussies?? And they may even still be around and showing in WA - they were a nice pair! Rat
  9. I want to get my new Belgian trained for herding and hopefully Ivy too. Really looking forward to starting training on Wednesday :D So you have horses too? Which breed? Do much riding? Hi BB - Ive only got the one old girl now! Ive had "horses" for so long its just habit typing the 's' rather than singular 'horse' .. Sally is aver 30 now, dont know how old she was when we got her or what breed she is, but shes been a great little mare. I really dont know what breeds she has in her, but must have a bit of stock horse/quarter horse, Arab and some sort of pony?? She has instinctual cow sense, my sister took her to a campdrafting training weekend a few years ago now and she (Sally that is!) just took over and did it all herself! My sister had a hard time convincing the guy training that she'd never done it before Ive done a few Parelli weekends with her, lots of bushriding and even did the Blackwood Marathon one year. But she is now fully retired, except of course when the horse crazy nieces visit, and is spoiled rotten with rugs in the winter, lots of yummy tucker and two sheep to boss around... ;) She will be our last horse sadly, but our property isnt conducive to horses feet or appetite! So Llamas are the next animal of large size for me. Will continue on with the sheep as well. Moses is a Damara X Merino and Jackson is a Suffolk X Merino. I was just saying to OH the other day that I wouldnt mind some Wiltshires at some stage. Ptolomy - Whats the best way to start training a dog for agility?? Generally speaking that is, I understand theres lots involved!! Rat
  10. Hi All - as usual, its been a busy few days in here!!! I would love to get into agility - still want to continue with Obedience with Wandy, did a bit of practice heading up from the horse & sheep the other night. She stands !!! Its only taken about a year for her to understand!!! Now I just have to get her to heel on the left ALL the time! JoLu - regarding the ticks in WA, as far as I know down here in the south west (including Perth) ticks arent poisonous. They would be roo ticks. Living right on the edge here, we quite often encounter the little horrors. The seem to be worse at different times of the year and I think they like spring when its warm but still wet! I had a giant one scrambling around on me a few months ago - I actually ripped my shirt off to see what the hell was moving so fast over my body - GIANT tick :D . The dogs dont seem to pick them up, have seen a few on the horses over the years. I seem to be affected more than any other creature in the household! But then again all insects love me!! Mozzies, ants, ticks, even chook parasites when we had chooks!!! YUKKY...So when do you look like moving JoLu??? How exciting for you!! Jonty will love it! Im sure racing greyhounds can be shown, a friend has one off the track who is shown - hes a beautiful brindle and white boy. She kept trying to talk me into having him!! Not sure what happens but theres obviously some paperwork involved!
  11. BB - if youre going camping at Collie, and not taking a Collie ( sorry Im tired and I dont know whether I read your comment right :D ) make sure you take some warm clothes!! It can be mighty cold down here around Easter. Hopefully we will have had some rain by then too!! We keep talking about camping but havent actually got there yet! Maybe when Summer has finished! Jazzyjules - just noticed youre a greyhound junkie . A question for you: Are they getting anywhere near close to changing laws about muzzling pet greyhounds?? I find it quite amazing that these dogs still have to be muzzled in public, when after spending time with them at the Royal they seem such gentle creatures?? I dont understand it Re first aid kits - I made my own this summer. After Zola getting snake-bit last summer I made sure I have quite a number of bandages, vit C powder and other useful thing for both humans and dogs!! It lives on the dining room table, so we all (well, all 2 of us ) know were it is! First aid book in there as well. Oh and I redid my first aid cert just last week. It seems to get easier each time I do it!! Rat
  12. Good stuff Moosepup - how excellent for you!! After my *cough* big tough announcement about two pages ago, Im now in two minds about how I go about having more than two dogs.............Ah well, guess I dont have to worry till I actually decide to have more! Rat
  13. Hehehe....my last kelpie bitch wouldve made an excellent Dock Dog!! She absolutely loved leaping off the jetty at a nearby dam (which was a swimming hole). She would do it all afternoon if we let her! Dont either of our current dogs would be in it though. Zola doesnt go anywhere near water - except to drink :p and Wandy just wants to play in and around it, not actually be immersed Rat
  14. Thanks for that - I will do next time I get some mobile phone reception! I only do FB on my mobile phone - there I dont have the distractions of all the games and crap!! Rat
  15. Definitely a ridgie cross! Dunno what the cross is though. What a gorgeous dog he is. Rat
  16. Yes if you came down the stairs in the dark ...........Hes a bit of a trip hazard! Seriously though, as all have said an extremely stupid thing to say to a kid! I really hope the next dog they do it to doesnt want to chase the kid. FFS!!!!! Rat
  17. To DOL Pommy Lhasa - How exiting for you, moving all that way! Bet you cant wait to spend time with your grandies!! Ill let the more experience showies help you out in that department, Ive only done *cough* about a half dozen shows Sharna - lure coursing would be great fun, but like rommi n lewis, Im too far from Perth to commit!! I cant even get to obedience classes an hour away Im sure Ive got a picture somewhere of ridgies racing/lure coursing somewhere over east. Ahhh, it would be so much fun!! Closest I get is playing hide and seek chasey with my two nutters! Its so much fun, they get so into it, chasing me around trees and cars, while I try and sneak to the next obstacle Anyone get to the shows on the weekend?? Any results?? Group 4..... Rat
  18. Hi Oh no I think I am the oldest!!!!!! *******Goes looking for grey hairs............................ Nope, sorry to say but I go alot further back than that and have the grey hairs to prove it. But I have Mirawee who is good enough to run my dog in agility and jumping while I watch. :p :p Looks like its you'n'me ozjen - so when did you leave school??? Oh how I wish I had graduated somewhere around 1990...something!! Oh well, good thing Im quite immature We got about 1mm rain - not good enough really, Im sooooooooooooooooo sick of the heat, the humidity and no rain! I think our dogs handle it better than me! We dont have aircon, but quite a well designed house re heating and cooling, but this last two weeks have just been yuck! Does anyone else here read the Quokka from cover to cover?? I found a few "strange" ads in the pet section, 'wanted' bit last night - someone looking for very rare, dont even think there are any in Aus, dogs. All herding breeds too............Oh and a dingo! I sometimes get a bit sad reading the ads though, there are soo many kittens it breaks my heart - why oh why cant people desex????? And I wont even go there with people looking for X dog to breed with their Y dog, who is oh so cute Pulease! Anyway, Im on RDOs now - dont go back to work til Thursday, yay!! Sleep ins and playing with my girls. Fencing and stuff as well, to keep our small smart-alec lamington out of the horse yard! Rat Well without giving too much away I was married in 1979 but still young at heart if not in body. I'm an avid Quokka fan but like you I sometimes feel sad at the number of designer breeds being rehomed with their first litter when people realise that their pups don't sell as well as the high priced petshop ones. What herding breeds were people looking for? I haven't bought a Quokka for a while. Dingoes are occassionally available but they do have very special needs. Personally as much as I love Dingoes I think it is a shame that they are available to the public as so many people aready have problems catering to their domestic dogs and cats. :D Thanks Ozjen - I feel alot younger now ;) They were after Briard, Bergamasco and Bouvier des Flandres as well as the Dingo!! Maybe theyre just after a 'rare' dog I dunno??? I dont think Ive heard of Bergamascos in Australia tho.. I agree about the dingo, beautiful animals but not for the average joe public I dont think! A work mate had one from up north and she was a gorgeous girl, and he was the right kind of person to have one, but I wouldnt even go there! I have enough trouble with the ridgy  Mirawee - yes a pony patting party at your place sounds fun :) Rat
  19. Hey Cuchulian, glad youre having fun with young Max! I so wish Zola had never found her bark - probably a bit of hard ask though living with a kelpie!! After watching the World dog games on tv the other month I would love to do agility with both my girls!! It looks like so much fun and watching those BCs going through the weaving poles was just amazing!! I dont mind dogs barking when they are doing something like herding or the agility or flyball dogs when they are doing their thing, but incessant barking for nothing is quite annoying after a while! Do you have any more pics of Max?? Rat
  20. Hmmff............It rained last night - I heard it....And yet there was NOTHING in the rain gauge this morning!! At least today is cooooool, and breeeeezy! Shopping day!! Tiggy - Ive got my 'last horse' at the moment. Shes a 30 something year old brumby??? or something. Best little horse we ever had the joy of owning. But shes showing her age poor darling. Sway back, hollowed out flanks, dragging feet. Shes still got that twinkle in her eye and a huge love for her tucker though!! And shes also surrogate mum to our 6month old lamington boy, a suffolk cross Jackson. Ill try and get t few photos up. Mirawee- Nice paly, got any photos of your fillies?? Oh and are you going to Casterton this year?? Rat

  22. Think theres gonna be quite a queue!! Its ok Rommi n Lewis - you can stop looking for grey hairs now - I left school in 1984 Mirawee - Maybe I should do some jumping with Wandy, til I can train the other stuff! Rat
  23. So mirawee - whats involved in the jumping?? I didnt know Banjo had so many talents hidden up his furry sleeve Are there going to be any other Kelpies shown do you know? Trinity back in form yet?? Any of her pups? Cant remember when they were born, so they may not even be old enough...... Enough of the age thing already!!!!! I feel old! Rat
  24. Are you showing the cute young BC Sat nite Washa?? How Bosley boy going? Not showing him? Rubystar - darn I was hoping for agility to be on Friday or Saturday nite. Being three hours from home I dont really want to be away aaallll weekend Maybe Saturday & Sunday nites would be better! Will have to go back to the drawing board now! Rat
  25. So................Who is off the the Western Classic this year?? I want to head up for Friday and Saturday night - so I can see the hounds and then the working group. I would also love to check out some agility. After seeing that one hour World Dog Games show a couple of weeks back Im enthralled with Agility!! Would love to get into it with Wandy Kelpie, but *cough* cant even get it together to continue with obedience Anyway - would love to catch up with any of you at the Classic!! And dogs as well - Banjo boy especially What a dog!!! Oooh and the baby Chessy of course - will have to be supervised tho, hes far toooooo cute!!! Rat
