R.I.P. beautiful Tina. My heart goes out to you Winterpaws. You were Tinas angel Take it easy, will be thinking of you. Rat

He is not due for his vaccines until July, would i do the titre then or before, I am not sure exactly how it all works except that it measures antibodies?? I would get the titre test done and a letter from your vet stating Your dog stating this and that they have imunity! My vet was quite happy to do this for kenneling and my dog club if nesessary. Our kennel (the one we use that is) generally accept titre test, which I think is becomming the norm! Rat

What a beautiful, beautiful boy!!! May have to add this breed to my want list!! Rat

Gggrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...................I so wanna go to the Winter Fest!!!! I think I may have to bribe someone to swap shifts with me so I can get there! Somehow I think it would mean I would have to work my birthday to get the two day swap I want! The things you do to get to a dog show.. Oh good Xolo - I would like to see your two at the Royal, would be very good PR! "Any other breed not listed" is a bit slack of them tho isnt it????? :p I hope to catch up Xolo, when my roster runs to having RDOs during the week! I will keep you posted! Rat

Have you tried him with tinned fish wildchild - something like sardines or salmon?? My girl goes off her food every now and then, by no means like your boy, and I used to find it a little disturbing! Now when she does, I just offer her food - If she eats it fine, if not I take it away and offer it again at her next feeding time. Generally when shes off food, and its mainly raw meat, fish will be eaten! I hope you find an answer soon! Rat

So WX - have your kids been "in" a show yet, or is that still to come in July?? Looks like I wont get to Perth to watch another dog show for some time! Bummer......... Im looking forward to the Ridgie show in September though and the Royal. Think Ill be there on the Thursday, we head up on the bus - shame they dont go every day, so I have to be happy with their day! I will get to see whatever groups are on the Thursday. We have been enjoying the "spring" weather down here with lots of bushwalks ........ Although I really wish it would rain, its getting quite scary with little feed and littler water in the tanks Rat

Not Sure If I Should Listen To My Vet's Advice...
Lab_Rat replied to chichihuahua's topic in General Dog Discussion
As I understand it there is no real "difference" between the 3 core ingredients in the C3 and the C5 - but because the Kennel Cough component that makes it a C5 needs to be administered yearly this is what makes the two vaccines different. You could use the C5 every 3 years, but your dog would probably NOT be covered that whole time for Kennel Cough...... Im with you on the KC vacc Aussie3 - getting a jab for the swine flu or this years strain of flu wont prevent you from getting some other flu virus thats hanging around.....It probably is the same for Kennel Cough. A C3 Vaccination covers distemper, parvovirus and hepatitis. C4 is a C3 with vaccine for parainfluenza (strain of Kennel Cough) C5 is a C4 with vaccine for Bordetella bronchiseptica (another strain of Kennel Cough) Kennel cough needs vaccinating for each 12 months or so, C3 every three years approx. I had my girls titre tested this year and will continue to do so until it shows they need revaccinating for C3. Rat -
Hi Jazzigirl - beautiful dogs!! No! You are not biased - Kelpies pretty much are the BEST dogs!! :D Just dont let my ridgy hear me say that :) Rat

It was great to meet you and Lincoln last Saturday VCBR - even though it was only a quick chat!! I hope you get to show 'outdoors' this weekend! Its so much nicer - specially when the sun is shining.... We had 29 mm rain last night ..........sorry Mirawee We had the best weekend in Perth ;) Got to catch up with my brother, his wife and our niece and nephew. The show was great on Saturday, caught up with lots of friends and gossip, Roxy'n'Hemi introduced me to the two beautiful Dalmatians she shows and I also managed to drool over several trolleys full of pugsters, they were so damn cute!!!!! We visited the Malaga markets on Sunday arvo after having Nandos chicken for lunch. On the Monday we drove up into the hills and had lunch with Rijbiz and her ridgies then we headed over to meet some Llamas - about 40 of them! What amazing beautiful creatures they are We didnt get back down to the metro area till after six - and I dont much like driving at just dark in Perth, its a bit ;) .... Headed home Tuesday after a bit of a shop at Carousel, Cannington. Phew I think its the longest Ive stayed in Perth for quite a while, but I did miss my girls. And by the noise they created when I drove up our driveway, I think they may have missed me a little bit too :D Rat

Changing To A Raw Or More Natural Way Of Feeding
Lab_Rat replied to Mas1981's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Sorry for the delay in replies - have been away for a few days! Neither of our two have farting probs with lamb. When they were on roo however, that was a way different story! Ick! Claire Middles book is excellent and Ive got a few good things from it, even though Im not a complete convert to raw ..... Longdog - Havent noticed any constipation problems, and were on a pretty serious poo patrol in this household . We also get comments about the food our dogs get!!! About the "quality"..... Dagmar - my vet has given Zola a few TCM blends for tummy upsets and rhinitis. She has also mentioned the warming and cooling foods. Do you have any links to good websites that have any general info on them? She also recomended the digestive enzymes be pork based to be of any use! Rat -

How To Tidy Up The Endless Supply Of Doggy Stuff ...
Lab_Rat replied to Tilly's topic in General Dog Discussion
For toys I have a plastic tub in the loungeroom - I find Im usually putting stuff back in there all the time, wow, I feel like a "real" mum :D .........Zola likes that she can go and pick out whatever toy she feels like playing with, whereas Wandy has her "LittleBrownMan" (a three legged something that belonged to our previous rr) on her bed all the time - and Zola is forbidden to touch him!! Walkies stuff is in a huge terracotta pot by the front door. I got sick of tripping over leads and stuff when I came inside, so the pot makes it easy! Blankies, jackets etc. are in the lined cupboard and treats are under the kitchen sink. I do have a treats jar (like a bikkie jar) on the kitchen cupboard - and they know full well where it is! Rat -
Will do RnL. One of our cats - same one that was snake bit - decided to bathe in transmission fluid when just a few months old!!! We ended up washing him about four times I think. It was a good thing he didnt mind, just layed back and enjoyed it.....He still stunk of it for a while though. Rat

Changing To A Raw Or More Natural Way Of Feeding
Lab_Rat replied to Mas1981's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hey MM ( :D ).......... I feed a mixture of commercial and raw. Wandy (kelpie) could probably survive entirely quite well on raw alone, but as Zola has "issues" they get about 50/50. Wandy has chicken wings or necks for breakfast while Zola has kibble and Natures gift (both lamb based). For dinner they have lamb mince or meat, kibble and veges. They also get tinned salmon a couple of times a week. At this point in time Zola refuses to eat bones , so she gets a 4x2 bikkie usually after her brekkie. For me complete raw/natural is just tooooo difficult at the moment. But Im pretty happy with what I feed. And they both look extremely healthy - no skin issues or anything. Rat -
There was a Rottweiler with suspected parvo when I was at the vet on Wednesday . That was Midland area to. Parvo last week in the Bunbury Pound too I know I should probably know this already, but is Parvo a seasonal thing?? Nasty that its rearing its ugly head around the place! Rat

Did I read the retrieving trials are going to held at Arthur River??? If it is, then yes make sure you bring down lots of warm clothing!! Is it much of a spectator sport?? I only ask as we dont live toooo far away, and it would be good to see another dog sport happening! VCBR - I think SparkyTansy is right! By the look of last nights weather map I dont think any amount of prayers will help  Speaking of weather - has anyone been watching the program on the ABC about the planets? Last night was all about Jupiter. What an amazing place that is! Rat

:) :p ;) ;) ;) Goodo! Yes, sorry Mantis for stealing your thread! Rat

FFS!!!! What on earth is a Schnitzel ;) Other than a tasty crumbed piece of meat of course ;) at the mastiff conversation..... ;) Yep, coz the main aim is to "get money" out of whatever the hell you are doing ;) Im going to stop there, before I say something I may regret later on in court ;) :p Rat

Hehe, no probs Erny! My first port of call is to go to the states club page if they have one! I didnt realise your first girl was a rescue! Hows young Mandela going? Rat

Hi mantis - like Erny said, your daughter has good taste Heres the contacts page for the Victorian RR Club. The rescue info is about halfway down the page! RRCV Edited to add you need to go to the CONTACTS page! Good luck with your search Rat

No Kelpie independence is different to Spitz independence I think! Which is probably similar to ridgeback independence ;) Using the example of sheep herding, Kelpies can be useful in getting sheep that are out of site of the farmer, in bush or on the other side of hills etc.. They can be sent right out to bring back sheep. This is where they run into trouble with trials - they will use their brains rather than doing as theyre told The colour thing I dont have expertise on! However you can check this site out......perhaps red and chocolate are the same!!! Hmmm, not sure with the personality thing either between boys and girls! We only have girl dogs here. But our female is very very friendly, she loves people. But when it comes to dogs I dont think she'd worry if there were no other dogs in the world but her! She is a control freak with Zola - all games must be played by her rules, and they change quite often :) You will probably get some good answers in the Kelpie thread in the Breed subtopics under General. There are a few People in there with multiple kelpies who would love to talk about them! Rat

Both my ridgy girls were on "breeders terms", which meant they were still registered in the breeders names until they had a litter or were spayed. Luckily the breeders are wonderful, have become good friends and we havent had any dramas. Neither bitches ended up being bred for one reason or another, and I think we got papers for them soon after that decision was made. Quite early for out first girl - about 12 months. But wasnt until 2 - 2 1/2 years for Zola. I was showing Zola too, so it wasnt a problem. To me, even though the dog was still in the breeders name, she was all mine - she lived with me, I trained her, fed her, paid her vet bills etc.. ....Damn, mabe I shouldve sent them the vet bills But in all seriousness, I can see how things could get out of hand - - dependant on the breeder and the buyer! RS, Im gathering your dogs are from different breeders?? Rat

Good God Ozjen I cant believe that would really happen!!!!! Was this in WA?? Surely they Pet Shop owner would know that this ISNT the done thing!? I think if I had seen that I wouldve been onto the "original" name on the limited papers to let them know , then wouldve let rip at the pet shop - seriously this sort of stuff really p!$$es me off! I think the biggest thing that puts me off getting into breeding is finding homes for the pups - it would be the single most difficult thing to get 100% right. The small number of idiots make it soooooo hard for those that seriously just want to do the right thing...Oh, and BTW - I am not having a go at you at all Ozjen, Im just infuriated that someone would actually do this without a second thought!!!!! Ok, vent over... Are you gonna be at the show on Sat VCBR, or some other event?? If so I will endeavour to hunt you down and introduce myself, very interested in having a quick squiz at your agility book - see if its what I need! I reckon they will be using the dome if its gonna be thundering and raining! Hope it makes it way around the grounds though! Geez, I cant believe just how excited I am about going to watch this show on Saturday!!! Rat No worries Labrat, I wasn't having a go at anyone on here either it just makes my blood boil everytime I think of it. Yes, it was WA and the breeder of the bitch was informed, she had words with the owner of the bitch as well as the pet shop and also got legal advise. It was a very upsetting situation for her and very disheartening as a fairly new breeder trying to be a responsialble breeder. Pet shop was also telling people that they could view the grandparents and other relies on the mothers side online as they were alot of Champions. Mmm, again all that would do is reinforce blaming the wrong people when things go pearshape with the new petshop pup. Certainly made me relook at my contract and wonder how I could really guarentee that my pups aren't bred from once they change ownership is they didn't leave me already sterilized. Goodo, Im glad the breeder got to know about it! I wonder just how often this does occur. How bloody disgusting of the Pet Shop too!!! They would surely know how unethical that sort of shite would be! Then again they are a pet shop! Hemi is going to stay at home till I get off my butt and get to obedience training with him, and when he old enough to get into agility. He is going to shine in other sports. Im showing Dalmatians and Boxers on Saturday, and just a goldie on Sunday, unless I get asked to show the staffy at the terrier show. Well this time I might get to meet some Dalmatians!!! And breeders ...Im also looking into GSPs as well. Too many great looking dogs, not enough time to have them all!!!! Rat
