  1. Just an update on the situation. We tried everything but the dog would still poo/pee in the garage when left in there(didnt get crates thats all) . Funnily we NEVER caught him in the act! We decided to bite the bullett and leave the dogs sleep on thier bean bags in the living room when we were in bed or out. To date they have only got hold of a dvd cover and chewed it up,but the good news is they have NEVER done any poo or pees,as they never did before but leaving them there unattended was a big call I suppose. We are careful as we can not to leave them anything lying around to chew on,but to date they mostly sleep as far as i can tell.(they are always on the bean bags when we get up or come home). The longest they are not put out is about 9 hours overnight and the dog (now nearly 8 months) has a hell of a long pee in the morning! but just shows he can hold it in all that time anyway.
  2. The dogs are put out our backyard when we are there, but as I said they live inside and love the living room, run of house really. They never do anything in the house, its just the pup still doing it in the garage at night. ill give the vinegar a go too. Thay love to run around the backyard, which is big,but as the house is new, the yard is mostly mulch and small natives, still being established. If i left them out back for hours all the young trees will be flattened! Thats the thing with having 2, they roll about playing and flatten evrything by saccident, but thats another thing Im trying to stop (its not thier fault). Once the young trees are big enough they will be fine,Im just trying to save them the fate of flattening by mad red setters.
  3. Just to clarify, they get 2 main meals a day. The last one we cant do earlier than 5ish because of the funny shifts the wife and i both work, as they are on thier own from about 2 to 5 every day. Another thing with setters (at least until they are 2 or 3),never leave anything valuable to you or dangerous to them within thier reach when left alone,as they will chew it to bits for sure!.
  4. Thanks for the advice all. Unfortunately I cant leave them outside acces from the garage at night as it has to be locked up. The idea about feeding them earlier is a good one. They currently get fed between 6 and 7 at night, and thier last walk is usually around 9. ANy later and they are already aslleep in the living room and dont want to go out! Ive never thought about a crate. As i said the bitch is fine, its just the young one. Will try giving them last meal around 5 from now on and see how he goes. I have removed the paper before and he still pees in that spot!
  5. G,day all , We have 2 bueatiful Irish setters, who both sleep in thier beds in our garage, and when we are home are in the house. They get walked /run at least 3 times a day. The bitch was 6 months old when we got her and has never been any problem, shes now 15 months. The other one is a 5 1/2 month old dog,who weve had since 8 weeks old. Every night we still leave newspaper in a place in the garage which he pees on still. He also poos too most nights, even though they both go for a walk before we go to bed. What can i do to stop this? often on his night walks he only pees but not poos,so you can gaurantee a present in the garage next morning? It seems to have become his normal cycle and is getting annoying now. Weve had setters before so know the breed but cant ever remember one taking this long to keep it all in at night. Thanks in advance.
