You can get that many dogs into Tas in a short period of time, They can come via boat in a trailer or Car. Or use the on board boarding facilities - i don't recommend that! Plane would be harder and take longer, due to restriction, restrictions every state has. When i went over we took 8 dogs in the van, Dogs are free if in a car or float. Why is it that those getting to Tassie don't bitch, but those getting out do?

Yes it was.

Hobart to Sydney is around 1,060km via flightpath, Devonport is 915km via flightpath to Sydney. I also think it should be based on road kms, not as the crow flies. I agree with finding out on the day, that is wrong! It should be advertised, and if the club makes a mistake entries need to be refunded on the spot.

What about the Tassie Dane people? Do they have to deal with showing flat dogs because they have spent 12 hours on a boat then a long car ride to the showgrounds? My mum has a Great Dane, she has had them for 20 years... they would have loved to have gone to the royals on the mainland or a specialty show but the logistics of it just proved impossible. I have taken my Danes to Tassie to show, you don't show the day you arrive on the boat as the time you arrive does not allow you enough time to get to the grounds, same for Melb.

WA and Darwin would be out or the 1000 radius is the show was held in Vic. With that said if the show was held in NSW/SA/QLD/NT/WA - Tas would not be effected.

I thought you would be impressed with the entry, and i even got the results!

I doubt it, it's not like you would do it every weekend or month. That's just the problem, we can't go. You can get in your car and go. You don't have to use sea or air. When you live in this state you are at distinct disadvantage when it comes to going to interstate shows. So why should we be discriminated against. You can go, it's just one extra step. A step that many from the Mainland make over there each year for the Royals. As for flying, You can't fly an adult Dane in Australia even if i wanted to. You say your discriminated against due to distance and money. What about those in WA who either have to drive 3-4days to get to Melb/Syd/Bris? Those in NT who want to show in Melb, again 3-4days drive. Tassie is not the only ones who can't easily get to shows. As it's a NATIONAL show, i think there should be no CC's Australia wide for that breed! ETA spelling

Yes for the Royal, and if the judges are to my liking i would return again tomorrow. I get sea sick, yet i would do it again. I have friends who go over every year, sometimes twice for both Royals. Im currently showing in NSW 550kms from home, surprise surprise it cost me money to get here

Thank you ladies!! My birthday cake! Stickydate pudding in a brandy basket, with cream and icecream.

If you live on one side of Melbourne and want to show on the other you have to pay tolls. I paid more then $42.50 in tolls two weeks ago attending shows. I have a van, im charge a commercial rate because its a van, it doesn't mater it's for dogs and not work I love how this thread has gone from CC's to cost of flying, to being difficult to get off the island, to bringing up anything as some people hate to lose a discussion.

How long does the trip take? The trip on board Spirit of Tasmania takes approximately 9-11 hours. On days of single sailings, the voyage takes 11 hours. On days of double sailings, the voyage takes 9 hours. The boat travels approx 452kms

You are using water as an excuse, Oh sorry Island. We all know Islands are surrounded by water. What's hard about driving to the Ferry, loading your car, going upstairs walking around having dinner, Maybe sleeping in a cabin or chair or watching a movie, Then getting off and driving? The boat goes over twice a day. I have been to Tassie on the boat, It was an easy experience - I do get sea sick thou! Yes i stressed about the dogs, but you would be it on the plane as well. I don't see how it's any different to hey lets say, me driving from Vic to QLDwhich is approx 1797km and approx 20hours of driving, plus 3 nights accommodation. In fact getting on the boat is easier!! It's cheaper for me in Melb to get to Tassie via the boat then it is to drive to WA or QLD.

You can't compare Canada's ferry to ours. $42.50 is cheap!

Flying a puppy to Tassie is much cheaper then flying one to NT. I was quoted $155 for Tassie and $805 to NT for a 10 week old Dane puppy. Boat fees for cars and trailers http://www.spiritoftasmania.com.au/fares.html I notice it says The prices listed include the deduction of the Bass Strait Passenger Vehicle Equalisation Scheme rebate of $183 for a standard car and trailer and $366 for a standard car towing a caravan or a motorhome/campervan. Moe info on that hear http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/transport...bass/index.aspx Using the water as an excuse is crap. If i had to get to WA I would have to drive for 3-4 days, I can't fly the Danes. It would be cheaper to go to Tassie on the boat then it would to drive to WA.

I don't' get how the heading has come about. Sure there was a puppy there, it ate the ducks bread that the attacker had fed to the ducks. That's it!

http://www.news.com.au/national/no-jail-fo...r-1225862703460 No jail for man's attack over park puppy The women's puppy gobbled up the bread Black had intended to use to feed ducks. Source: HWT Image Library AN ENRAGED man bashed two women with a car steering wheel lock after their puppy chased ducks and ate his family's bread at a park. Shane Black, 50, of Chadstone in Melbourne, avoided jail over the attack in which he hit one woman over the head and another in the knee with the lock, then stood over them and threatened to kill them in front of other families and children, the Moorabbin Kingston Leader reports. But Black told Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on Friday that he and his wife “were the victims” and had acted in self-defence, despite him walking to his car to get the lock before carrying out the attack. Prosecutor Stephen McGinness said a verbal dispute erupted at Hedgeley Dene Gardens in Malvern East when a puppy started eating bread Black’s family was feeding to the birds on August 2 last year. Black went to his car to get the steering wheel lock, returned and hit one victim behind her left knee, Sen Const McGinness said. “As (the other victim) approached the defendant to intervene, (he) raised the club lock and struck (her) on the back of the head with the club lock, causing a laceration,” he said. “The defendant stood over the victims as they were sitting on the ground and made threats to kill if they attempted to leave.” Black pleaded guilty to two counts of intentionally causing serious injury and two counts of unlawful assault with a weapon, according to the Leader. Defence lawyer Megan Casey said her client had gone to his car to get a mobile phone to call police and only became violent when he saw his wife being assaulted. Black was convicted and received a suspended two-month jail term. Magistrate Paul Smith said he was of good character and had committed no other crimes.

Ashley's classes are held at his home in Clyde it's 5-10 past Cranbourne.

As for not being told in advance about CC not being offered - That is wrong. As for being disadvantaged try having a bred you can't fly anywhere when an Adult. I took the boat over to show in Tassie, hate that boat now

I went down on Sunday to check things out. I saw no Bikini's, no over the top double handling, no bickering. Nothing but dogs in the ring, and nice friendly exhibitors and spectators on the outside. In fact it was far less wankerish then I expected after reading about GSD specialty shows on DOL. To me it looked like a well run event.
