  1. Your right MDBA has been around for 6 years, yet 90% if not more don't know it exists?? The ANKC has been around for years, and yet many members of the general public know nothing about it, nor about registered dogs. I think a new registry crazy idea, I would think you would get better results if you invested your time in working to get on the ANKC committee and putting your talent to use on the existing registry.
  2. Yes you can buy it. Unless they are checking everyone's back yard the rotten eggs can still slip through. Look at some of the MDBA awards handed out, some of them are a little less then squeaky clean.
  3. Because when it comes to things such as laws and you ask the organisation behind the "current system" why it didn't step in to stop a ludicrous law from sliding throughand it answers "because you know you have to be nice to Government sometimes' .............. what hope has that "current system" got? Where would you start (and how) to clean up the current system to improve it and when would it get done, how long would it take? Why not get on committee and change things from within, rather then from out??? How many of those behind the MDBA have stood for ANKC nominations? The wheel has already been invented, why would you try and invent it again?
  4. There is nothing wrong with aspiring to be elite, but buying a membership to say you are is what im against. Being an elite/accredited breeder should be like a life membership, a badge of honor awarded to you from those within - In this case the ANKC. This is achieved by your morals, ethics, knowledge and commitment not something you can buy.
  5. Steve : Whippets : .... The agenda being a mode by which to make obtaining a puppy from good breeders perhaps a little bit less than the Russian Roullete game that I felt it was when it was my turn to purchase a puppy? What's wrong with that? . Why not work with the current system to improve it rather then start another one? To me it's like Steve (and a few others) are putting the MDBA members in one corner and non-MDBA breeders in another corner, Whether they be ANKC breeders, BYB's and/or puppy farmers.
  6. It's called research, if more puppy buyers bothered to research there would be a lot less getting ripped off and screwed over. I have this written on my site - Whilst you are looking at purchasing a loving companion, think like your buying a car. Truth is people spend more time finding that perfect car, then they do when purchasing a puppy. Ask questions, visit more then one breeder, view paperwork and ask around. You can always get a new car bought through buyer error, but you can't replace that beloved puppy because you didn't do your research first. Ask many questions and do your research. I get many emails from people who ask advice etc saying they read my page - questions to ask breeders and things to look out for, yet they still buy from a BYB. That's a good statement. But as an editor, can I just put in 'think like you're buying a car' rather than 'your' ... I have fixed it up, thank you. :D
  7. Temporarily, for sure. Showing with hormonal implants is one issue that still needs a decision one way or the other. Which was on the 2009, or was it 2008? ANKC agenda, it never got discussed. I have a letter from the Vic CEO saying it's ok to show a dog whilst on the implant and that it is up to each judge to decide. (I assume that would be based on shrunken testicles)
  8. Having seen the breeding practices of some of the members of my breed clubs, a breeder having membership means little to me too. Me too. Every club/organisation has some bad eggs, you either need to convert them or give them the boot!
  9. Having seen the breeding practices of some of the members of my breed clubs, a breeder having membership means little to me too. Vic Dane one has a COE, first one to do it. All clubs must bring a COE after a certain date if I remember correctly, the VCA sent something out about it a while ago.
  10. I think that's your interpretation but I don't think it is the correct one. The criteria for MDBA membership would be fairly clear and I think when people can see what the MDBA's criteria for membership is they will immediately know that each breeder member will have met that criteria. It is THEN (not yelling) up to the buyer to decide whether that additional criteria means anything to them or not. I'm sure there are quite a few non-MDBA members that meet the additional criteria as well.....and probably go a step further than that for their puppy buyers. Of course there are but how do we know who they are? Research, just like buying a car. People need to take the emotion out of it and research!
  11. Asking others in the breed will soon turn up who is legit and not. If the same thing comes up over 5-10 different breeders, you know there is some truth to it. I asked. And I was deliberately not told until after I got my puppy. So that idea can still prove to be diddly squat help. Those who did not tell you, need to look at their morals and ethics I think.
  12. I had not considered about being a member but in a different State. A member is a member I think, Your still a ANKC member even if registered in a different State.
  13. This puppy has a beautiful dark coat and was full of spunk strutting around.
  14. Many breed clubs do the same thing with COE etc, how is that any different to the MDBA?

  16. I agree, I used this word as it was how breeder's websites were being referred to in the thread that prompted me to start the polls. Any website with music is a HUGE turn off, I hate it!
  17. When buying from a Registered breeder do you factor in any of the above^^ ?

  20. And the way to do that is to distinguish yourself from them by your words and actions. Not by flashy websites, by knowledge, care for your breed, knowledge of your breed, consideration and duty of care to any prospective buyers, and ongoing service and consideration. I agree with all of what Jed said apart from the website bit.
  21. Because not all breeders support the MDBA & would prefer not to get involved when there name comes up. It seems a thing of late to be promoting the MDBA in DOL like some elite group when infact it isn't & i find it misleading .There are many wonderful ANKC breeders who do wonderful things & are just as ethical if not more yep flame suit on so shoot me Agree.
  22. Then frankly, I am very surprised that so few bother advertising on your website given they went to the bother of joining in the first place. Part of that would be because you have assumed you know why they joined. Out of 10,000 how many advertise on the Dogs NSW website or their monthly journal? I'm guessing because The NSW Journal would cost to advertise in, I assume your website would be free.
