  3. You had me worried for a second there.
  4. LINK SHANGHAI dog owners have rushed to license their pets over the weekend as the city imposed a new one-dog policy in response to the growing popularity of man's best friend. Hundreds of citizens microchipped and vaccinated their pets as a new law took effect limiting households to a single canine in an effort to curb rampant barking, unscooped waste and the growing risk of dog attacks, according to state media. To encourage more pet owners to license their dogs, the government of the commercial metropolis slashed the cost of the permits in the city centre to 500 yuan ($73) from the previous 2,000 yuan, the Shanghai Daily said. Residents who owned two or more dogs before Sunday will be allowed to keep them but must maintain each dog's permit, state media reported. Dog ownership has grown alongside China's fast-expanding middle class with official estimates putting Shanghai's pet dog population at 800,000. Previous reports have said only a quarter of that number are registered. Start of sidebar. Skip to end of sidebar. End of sidebar. Return to start of sidebar. make your own news service on igoogle The city's human population was more than 19 million in 2009, according to the government. Many dog owners postponed obtaining new licences until the cheaper rate took effect, causing a spike in traffic at animal vaccination centres, the Shanghai Daily said. Animal rescue shelters have also been expanded in the expectation that many owners will abandon their dogs to avoid paying the licence fees, the report said. The government had previously said tighter regulation was needed to prevent adverse effects on the city's environment from noise, waste, and dog attacks. There were about 58 million pet dogs in 20 major Chinese cities at the end of 2009 and the figure is rising about 30 per cent each year, according to a recent survey by Beijing-based magazine Dog Fans.

  9. I will say it again, get another mentor. They are pushing you to put a 2.5 week old puppy on main register. Best time to pick a "show potential" puppy is around 8 weeks of age. Which puppy are you keeping to show?
  10. Are you friggen serious, bloody hell.
  11. That wasn't personal, I can do much better then that. :D You breed the litter, it's your choice and only your choice.
  12. Find yourself a new mentor. Not everything in a litter is of exceptional quality. You obviously did not learn enough if you can't decide between main and limited.
  13. I will be there. Whelping Supplies has also donated a "Whelping Hamper" as a raffle prize, be sure to buy some tickets!!

  15. Sheesh! Boy, you guys are really picky. I am not looking for an argument. It was discussed at the time. The answer was either: Yes or the bitch was an import, and too young but her parents were fine. I just can't remember exactly word for word what was said nine and a half months ago when I started to ask detailed questions. For future reference - To young to score, but can be breed from - RUN A MILE! All health testing should be done prior to a litter, for your breed they can not breed a bitch before she turns 2.
  16. In my opinion yes they have some level of responsibility, at this stage that is to support you and get to the bottom of how/why etc. As to what they should do would depend on the outcome of the 2nd opinion - preferably by a specialist.
  17. This is my third of this breed so I know what's required. He isn't overweight, has not been over-exercised, trained to use the ramp to get into and out of the car, and not allowed to jump etc. Nothing in writing and it wasn't really discussed. I know all about risk, the first had HD problems starting to show when it was about two. The second got a bad gut infection at 3 months that meant it was on Hills ZD for its whole life, so I am aware of the risks. The father was scored and is regularly used as the breeders stud dog. The mother is an import and I am not sure if it was old enough to be scored. But the bitches parents were all scored. And yet you don't know if the mother was scored or not even after your previous problems??
  18. The reason we say speak to the breeder is they need to know there is a problem, they can't deal with it they don't know it exists. Hopefully they will help and support you.
  19. I'm sorry to hear of your problems, please speak to your breeder. Hopefully the breeder hip and elbow scored the parents - sadly many don't in my breed. The breeder maybe able to suggest a specialist vet for you. Always remember not every vet can/should take xrays for hip and elbow scoring/problems, Many of them have no idea how to place them etc. Diet, exercise and genetics play a huge part in raising a Giant Breed. Is very good with Giant breeds. Dr Karen Hedberg (Veterinary Surgeon) 36 Bells Line Of Rd North Richmond NSW 2754 Phone: (02) 4571 2042
  20. I think it should blend as much as possible. There is nothing worse in MYO then a lead that has beads right near the dogs head, I notice this more with self stacking breeds. You try and look at the dog and all you see is a bead bobbing up and down creating glare and a distraction. I'm not a fan of bling type leads.
  21. God no! I usedto have my phone number on my website, I would receive phone calls at all hours of the night (read that as 2-4am!) asking for advice - From 10 yr old bitches having there first litter, to X breed god knows whats, people who had no idea the bitch was even pregnant, people who refused to go to a vet. Someone to come over and help out after a caesar or to puppy sit is a good idea I think.
  22. Easier said then done sometimes, Show dogs must be entire.
