Dr Harry Cooper 16th July--mini Rant Video Added
ncarter replied to Brennan's Mum's topic in In The News
I hated how he said the words "handbag dogs" about 6 times. But hey at least he promoted the Maltese breed. And I think that is important as pure bred Maltese dogs seem to be outnumbered by Maltese X Shit Tzu's by about 50:1. -
I didnt think you would have to have a registered pedigree dog in order to become a member. Thanks for that guys I wish dogswest would update their site.

ive got a few questions for you guys. Is a CAWA membership $38.80? I was going through the fees list and thought it was this one. Do you have to have someone to nominate you? Do you get a copy of a gazette or canine news in the post?? Im not sure how it all works. Do you have to be a member to transfer papers into your name? (im just curious really i will become a member anyway).

Desperate! Long Term Boarding Or Foster Care
ncarter replied to fiery_di's topic in General Dog Discussion
that is great news fieryd! So what happened with the older dog that you were keeping at your in-laws house? -
its great to have Jed back. That voice of reason. I say take her advice up and take them to the small claims court. What a horrible situation to be in

so are we talking about an aussie bulldog?
-
gayle, what breed are you thinking here?
-
yep they cut away the vocal cords. Normally there is still a bit of scar tissue left allowing the dog to emitt a low hoarse sound. There is a lot of negative stigma attached to this procedure but I have no idea why. Its a fairly simple operation and the dog still thinks he can bark so I dont see the harm in it for chronic barkers. Its just like a dog with no balls, he doesnt miss them.

i would like to try it but there doesnt appear to be any distributors in WA ;)

Well how is a male dog meant to get testicular cancer if he doesnt have any testicles. Same goes for a bitch with ovarian or uterine cancer.
-
yes but it is a totally different type of 'wag', a mad dog will have a higher and more tense wag, whereas a scared dog will often hold its tail loose and wag it slowly or have its tail between its legs.
-
This is generally true is it not?

Should I Get A Second Opinion?
ncarter replied to RallyValley's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
That is a terrible thing to happen ValleyCBR. I hope Lincoln recovers quickly. Do you think the surgery was absolutely necesssary now that the diagnosis is gastroenteritis? I guess ultrasounds cannot pick up everything and you would rather be safe than sorry. -
I have a question or 2. What sort of show lead are normally used on toy dogs? Seems so confusing with all the different types. I have also seen in some photos the lead extends out from the dog about a foot then it virtually turns at right angles and has some metal parts to it . What do you call this type of lead?

Thanks for that Wazzat. The link didnt work on my computer though. Anyway this thread has degenerated too far. According to Terrierman.com "If you cannot pick up a border terrier by its tail and throw it over a fence, it's not a true border terrier", now I think this is the crux of this debate
-
thanks Wazzat. Do you know if JDavis started the thread?
-
off topic but can someone point me in the direction of a good thread on de-bunking the hybrid vigour argument. I seem to recall reading something about it being a theory that is more applicable to plants than animals.
-
what a clever girl fran. I always wondered how dogs pick up the "where's the stick", or "where's the ball" thing. My dog is too obsessed with sticks now he brings them in from outside drops them at my feet and begs me to play.

I understand what your saying. If someone is interested in backyard breeding I dont think NOT having the limited registration papers is going to stop them. The person will have the bitch there for potential buyers to see and that is proof enough for most people. If you consider the kind of people interested in BYB and petshops - I dont think seeing the limited reg. pedigree of one of the dogs parents would be at the top of their MUST have list. oh there is a woolies at 100 st georges terrace.
-
RS, do you mean the new one in st georges terrace?

What Can I Do With My Lovely Jack Russell
ncarter replied to hshen's topic in General Dog Discussion
if could have been a foreseeable event who knows. I dont like the OP coming on here and saying if "anyone" can take him that would be good. It devalues the dog.
