How Do You Stop You Beagle Pup Jumping Up On Your Leg
Flying Penguin replied to beaglenewb's topic in Puppy Chat
I'm sure it would if you sprayed it in a dog's face. It's also toxic and highly aversive. I'd not recommend it for this purpose. Either push him off gently telling him "off" and reward him when he's on the ground or tell him to "sit" instead and reward that? When do you start puppy school? Thats what we did with sam picked her up and put her on the floor or next to us. Eventually she got used to it after rewarding her, sometimes she would sit there for a small amount of time and then get up, she progressively got better and better and now its not an issue. In saying this we dont mind her being on the furniture its just not everyone coming over wants a dog sitting on their lap lol. -
Cool. Lots of parks up there to be able to take them for walks

Where abouts in SA are you located?
-
Sam did for a few weeks when she was younger, she would just lick them put them in her mouth and spit them back out. She has completely stopped now. I think she was just experimenting.

I just made it in photoshop. The pics are a few months old now from when we first got her. I really should update them lol
-
Nah from a breeder in the country here in S.A

Agreed its only just recently Sammy will be quite outside when we go out or put her outside. She used to bark and cry constantly. Lucky we have great neighbours. She is fine now though. Patience is the key.

Take lots and lots he will grow so fast and everyone will notice him growing but you :p
-
He will sleep alot! think of how much a baby sleeps a day. I guess puppys are similar in that respect.
-
Nothing to worry about puppys in general sleep alot. My beagle is 6 months and will still sleep quite a few times a day. The food thing also is fine. Puppy simply might not be hungry, he will eat when he is ready. Depending on the weather sammy will sometimes skip meals. I had the same concerns with my puppy when I got her but the vet soon cleared them up for me. Hope this helps.

Its just like myspace but for dogs He is very cute!!
-
This may seem silly but what if you had her on the lawn and put water on a flannel and washed her that way so she would get used to it?
-
Yes but where are the photos??? Must agree. Baby beagle photos are the cutest.
-
Give him a few weeks and you will only be getting up once a night to take him to the toilet. Thats all we did with Sam. Now she sleeps the night through and doesnt wake up at all.

This is normal dont worry! I thought it was weird as well. My vet said its just a puppy thing, they bounce and run in a very amusing manner. Sammy has completely stopped now. Also it looks funnier because the puppy is so small. I understand how hard to explain it is though. I was just lucky my vet has beagles

Think your begale has high energy levels now, wait till it gets a little bigger My beagle can jump up onto our kitchen table now and she is still technically a puppy.

Sounds like you dont need the baby gates for your baby but definitely for your dogs when your not home  All the damage was probably done whilst you where reversing out of the drive way

FP, how long are your walks with your Beagle? Daisy has had all her shots and she is currently doing puppy preschool now. She is getting walked once a day although I'm not home until next week so I'm not 100% how long the walk is. Apparently she is completely full of energy, even after her walk. Obviously she can't do the hour long walk I do with my Sibe so I will have to do two separate walks when I get home next week (walking the dogs is generally my job). Ahh thats what was happening with Sam, we would take her and she would still be full of energy. Our vet who also owns a beagle recommended 30-40 min walks, depending on how fast you walk and when she builds up and can walk longer we can go for a longer period of time. He also said the half hour walks are good about three times a day, if obviously time permits. Being a student some times im home at lunch times and sometimes im not. If i am I take her in the morning, lunch and then after dinner. If not just in the morning and after/before dinner. She gets a bit ancy(?) if she doesn't get her walks because she is a little bundle of energy.

After my beagle had all her injections we walked her once a day, and now we are walking her twice a day, once in the morning and once at night time. We also play with her during the day throwing the ball around the backyard etc with her as well so she is exercising. Beagles have ALOT of enegry! EDIT: we also went to puppy pre school and then the follow on course from that, muts with manners
-
Dont worry I was the same with Sam when I first got her, i was posting questions on here all the time.
-
Ahh nothing to worry about Sam was the same, and even when she wasnt drinking she would hicup about 7 or more times a day randomly. I asked my vet and he said they grow out of it, its just a puppy thing. Now Sam doesnt hicup at all.

Sammy is very active as well being a beagle and everything. She was jumping off the lounge the next day and off chairs etc. The vet said she will be fine and that if it was causing her pain she wouldnt do it. We went down for a check up today and she said everything is fine

I hope so. I have two pillows on my bed and they are the ones she is humping whilst chewing the corners of lol. We have square lounge pillows but she has never bothered with them. Probably because she knows she will get told off even more because our lounge is new.
