HHH So am I..I have fallen for this breed big time
-
What about a Papillion? I have only had the experience of my puppy, who is now 8 months old, but he has been easy as to train, tho the toilet training was a tad harder than other puppies I have had in the past. Full of personality, VERY smart, loving ( but not needy too much) and gets on fine with the cat and the chickens etc. I think a pap would be fine as an apartment dog, from what I can see. Mine isn't yappy at all, tho they are an alert little dog. Maybe other pap owners with more experience in the breed can add to this? they can be so angelic and then again
-
ok this is weird...my pup had his 12 week jab, and the vet said that was it for the jabs? So he only had 2? What is this third needle?
-
I am doing the clicker training to with my 6 mth old pap Sit and drop are good, and I only use treats occassionally and alternate it with a play reward/ fuss etc on the things I know he knows I am using a slice of skinless cherio, that is then 1/4ered, and teeny bits of cheese and also there is a dried liver treat that he loves ( it is called LIX) which is more of a chunk so you can handle it better that the wafer thin slices of other brands that are too hard to pick up :D Mine gets excited when he sees me pick up the clicker HHHHH GREAT eye contact lol

Thanks for the info...looks like I can't do too much about it except keep them outside when she comes to play. Thanks again kym

I have a male papillon puppy now 6 months old, and a friend has a female puppy that is 6 weeks younger. She brings her over for play dates :D The last two times she has bought her over, the female puppy is agressive towards my male, and either mounts him or pins him to the floor, and continually snarls and growls. She has done this to some extent from the first time she came over at 14 weeks old, but it is getting worse. This settles down after a while, and they play all the time. At no time does the male pup snap or growl or try to dominate; he just wants to play...even when he is pinned down, he jumps up and immediately instigates play. But what is happening now is the female puppy is peeing all the time. Dribble dribble dribble, and I think it is on places where frodo had mishaps when he was being toilet trained. I noticed today when she was outside, that she did little pees all over the place; first sniffing. I counted 7 pees in about 2 minutes. She just went to the vet the other day, and definately hasn't got an infection or anything. She doesn't do it at home at all apparently, and there are 3 other dogs there. Frodo tonight sniffed where I had cleaned up this afternoon from her little pee, and went to squat on it ...tho he got a rude shock when I yelled. He hasn't tried it again; but I just don't want him going backwards in his house training. When I see her do it, I make a loud noise, and scoop her up and put her outside, but its not like she actually NEEDS to go, iykwim. It reminds me of when male dogs mark over other males pees....Do females do this too? It is driving me spare! How can I stop this? thanks kym

ok thanks guys...I was just worried about doing his throat damage v making other unforseen problems ( by me) using a harness. thanks kym

Frodo the nearly 6 month old Pap is getting really good with the lead around the home and acerage...walks nice, doesn't pull ( tho sometimes a duck or something takes his interest and he try to belt off, occasionally hitting the end of the lead, but usually I can stop him before he gets that far with my voice) But when I go out to the park etc, it is a battle to stop him half choking himself. I don't want him to hurt his throat when he does hit the end of the lead. He usually settles after 15 minutes. Should I get a halter thingy while he is learning? I am using a flat collar and light nylon lead. I am starting obedience in about 4 weeks time. Which brings another question...can he go to obedience with a healing ringworm, or does it have to be totally gone? I am SO over vet bills Thanks in advance, kym PS/ To those who remember..Murphy's bum has made a total recovery, and frodos shoulder injury has responded finally to rest, so no xrays were needed, tho a chiro gave him a beauty massage HHH. It was muscular strain apparently, tho now he has a ringworm

I have had 2 dogs and both are deviates by the looks of it, lol ...Frodo the 22 week old pap humps his squeeky toy morning noon and night...but as he is doing it, he goes backwards! He manages to get across the whole loungeroom floor, even doing corners HAHAHA. My other dog ( RIP SMITHY) was a sheltie, and he got me a beauty. I came home, and he was in the yard, just lying there. He lifted his head, and then just put it down. I raced over, as usually he bolts over to the car to greet me. It seemed like he was hesitant to move or something. I was SO worried, and my friend that was with me was almost in tears; he looked in pain or something...I slowly tried to roll him from his side, to see if there was an injury that I couldn't see top side, got him basically on his back, and the dirty buggy had THE most HUGE erection you can imagine! I was OMG, and them he just squirted all over my hand/arm/leg and started these humpy movements kinda while still on his back. That was when my friend almst peed herself laughing, and I nearly cried. I didn't know whether to be massively relieved, or just kill him right on the spot HHH. Needless to say the dog bounced up pretty quick, totally back to normal, lol I am relieved I am not alone in the penis problems; LOVE the stories

Our cat had a similiar problem, and we never found out what caused it...BUT the one thing that did clear it was the all in one treatment revolution...cleared his ears up great!!! His gunk was greasy, yet flaky...similiar to greasy heel in horses. I wonder if something like that is worth a shot...

I have no idea what it was called, as I was given a sample of it, but it smelled like coconut, and this showy gets it from stalls at dog shows. Worked a treat with murphy ( he is getting smellier as he ages I am sure ) I know it was pretty dear, but a little went a long way.

Yep...my boy is 15.3, and sprint lines as well...no jowls, and great extensions We used to love the days when there was tests in the morning, and open pony club stuff in the afternoon, and whack him around the barrels in the afternoon, and watch for the faces. He really could turn his hand to almost anything. And cause I couldn't resist..... Shiloh Spellbound

Oh Bilby, you made me laugh!!!!!!!!!! Bouf sounds like a real character. You know, the more I read, the more I realise this is really just like the comments I used to see with the different horse breeds competing in different things. Our Q/H did well in dressage, and the attitude change I saw when 'some' found out that he was a QH and not a anglo/tb ( he doesn't typically look too much like QH) was priceless. Thank you for all your kind stories and hints; I have hope that I will find somewhere soon, and know what to look for as well ( in a group) Unfortunately, being in the country a bit  my choices aren't huge. The babies can start at 6 months old ?

I found that book, and bought a copy thru ebay america ;) Looks like an interesting read! Thanks again, kym
-
I will have a search for this for some reading matter thanks! I think my friend will be food treats. Frodo goes crackers for cheese and liver treats, and I have been majorly successful with using them so far. But he is a fair way down, and I can only imagine the problems I will have when I actually learn stuff myself. Poor dog and me will also be learning at the same time I suppose...not the best mix ;) I have used clicker training with our two horses, to literally teach them one thing ( to drop head on ccommand) I think I will look into the whyfors and wherefores with that too...I read the article about nerves in this forum just recently, and I think overall the little dogs I have seen are gutsy...it would be like living in a land of dinosaurs for us comparitively.

Thanks for the replies, guys! There are some pretty cool dawgies here ;)
-
HAHAHAHHA @ Jejuna so true!!!! Plus his eyes freak people out a bit; I am used to them
-
Thanks Kanga..I presumed that windy days they would be useful...I don't think the sun is a problem with the cataracts ( for him anway)
-
HAHA yes, he looks sooo cool ...it's a sad day when the dog has better sunnies than his owner tho ;) poloroid/ interchangable lenses, sheesh...I suppose it goes with the 'dogue' dinner bowl, and the 'paws' hoodie jacket; he has an image to uphold I wanna image too, dammit!!!!
-
I ( or rather Murphy) won a pair of 'Doggles' , which is pretty funny, cause he is blind. Anyway, has anyone actually used them? I don't know if they would actually be of any benifit to Murphy, bar on windy days, to keep his eyes free of dust etc .... Has anyone had any good/bad experiences with them? Here is what they look like, to those that don't know the product..excuse Frodo...he wanted in on the pic too, the little ham ;)
-
HHH so what is my pap classified as...he is a tri.... small, coloured, fluffy???? A 'scf' ??? hahahah tho after eating my massage chair control cord, I can think of a better acronym ;)
-
Just a quicky...I don't know whether the new tablet is working, whether he is just feeling better or the antibiotics have kicked in ....but he didn't struggle AT ALL when applying the cream YAY no screaming or anything. He calmly got up when I said good boy, and went to the treat cupboard, and sat waiting for his liver reward HHHHHHHHHHHHHH Thanks you so much for all the support last night, here and on msn kym and a lot happier Murphy
-
Thank you so much Erny!!! One last question tho HHHH In my google travels, I saw mention that the dogs must be registered to compete? My pap isn't registered ...I have copies of his sire and dam's rego, that the owner let lapse for whatever reason. I know he is pure, but no papers....Can I even do obedience or agility with an unregistered dog?
-
I have answered my q's above ^^by googling ...still don't know what the swf and sbf is tho??? TIA kym
-
Thanks for the replies... can I just ask what swf and sbf stands for tho? I *think* I read somewhere here small white fluffy for the swf, but the sbf has got me beaten, unless it means black? I think I have all my terms mixed up too; I am such a n00b, but really keen ....by obedience I think I meant agility ( that's the one with the tunnels and jumps etc? in a pattern?) I take it that agility training stems from obedience training? And what is flyball???? And does 'trialing' mean that the dog is doing it's round or is it a sport in itself? Excuse all the ignorance...*sigh kym
