I just have a good ole fashioned bum bag! Very eighties I know
-
This is odd as I live there and we can take the dogs on the beach after 7.30pm and before 10am off lead on Carrum/Seaford beach. They are also testing a new stretch of beach thanks to residents votes for dogs to be allowed on after 5pm (on lead though) instead so they too can cool off on hot days and not have to wait utnil 7.30pm. Mitch just had kennel cough, I was told 7-10 days incubation. His came out right on 8 days.
-
I just saw this and I used Pets In Heaven for my Rottie girl 2 years ago and I can't speak highly enough of them.
-
Yes there is a high chance of cruciate problems. Mine has just had his done. But I don't think it's any more prevalent in Rotties as it is in larger breeds. Labbies etc have crutiate problems but also many other breeds of dog. I was cautious with my rottie with weight and exercise but he still did his. It very much depends on the nature of the dog. I had a rottie girl who was very laid back and lazy and a 5 mibute walk around the block was fine. My boy on the other hand is a bundle of energy and loves his daily walk, then has energy to burn with toys when we get home lol.

Totally agree. My rescue girl poos then turns straight around and eats it. It may be a behavioural thing from the conditions she was kept in before being rescued, not sure but it's hard to break. I yell at her if I catch her but I work so she merrily eats it all day. I pick it up before work and after work but she sneaks one in at night or while I'm at work. You don't want to put your face near her as she is always burping and it smells well............ She can burp in a room before you walk in and you know she's been in there. :p Mine get raw meat, bones, sardines and Bonnie dry food. So should I cut the dry food?? Add pineapple juice to their dinner? I have busted my other beagle poo eating but not as much and may just be doing it to copy her. His breath is always nice.

Thanks guys, he is in surgery today, I will keep you posted.
-
Thanks guys. Yes he has just finished the 3rd course of antibiotics and it is not clearing up. The two opinions have been that rejection is likely occuring. I thought the titanium plate was there for good and I thought titanium was used as it is not rejected by the body. But like everything I suppose, it can be rejected. Chris said that the plate is not needed now the bone should have healed, it was mainly acting as a splint so it can be taken out no problem. He also said that to bring the price down they can cut some corners like not give him Morphine I don't think so. We have Tealc booked in at out local vet whom we trust to have the plate removed on Friday. He is also going to do some xrays at the same time to ensure that he has healed OK. I hate having to put him through surgery again!

Tealc had a TPLO done in Feb this year. The operation went well as did his recovery. He now runs and walks and his limp is barely noticeable. However recently the wound site began to weep and become inflamed. We rang Chris Preston who informed us that the reason is most likely rejection of the screws and plate and they would have to be removed now. Apprently it happens in 1 in 1000 and of course we have that dog He has quoted us $1300 to do this. Our other vet - second opinion - says more like $600. Chris says the reason he will be higher is he can do it and other vets might not know how to do it and round out the screw heads and stuff it up etc. Has anyone had any experience with this after a TPLO. I'm trying to be positive here and not think this is a money spinner. The leg has already cost us $5000 and although I'm happpy to pay whatever to get my baby right, I'm a little peeved.

Just what we did  Except Halle will hop around with us while we have the leash until we put it on her.. its so cute, she knows she as to sit, so she moves with me a little, then sits, then hovers a bit more with me, then sits! She's trying to master the move-while-sitting trick At 8 months, your dog should know how to sit, so it shouldn't be too difficult. Just takes persistence Re the pulling and dragging to the door, leash training should help with this. Again, at 8 months that should be on its way too Agreed with both. I did the same thing. Picked up the leash, and asked him to sit. If he didn't, leash went back, no eye contact, and walked off. Tried again and again. Then once we mastered the lead on quietly and the lead was on, then he pulled like a train and danced around as I was opening the door. Again I just stood still, not moving , no eye contact until he calmed down, and I again asked him to sit and STAY. Once we had that sorted then we opened the door If he lunged to get out the door first, a quick correction and another sit stay. It takes a little while and if done in stages works well. Now he runs to the door when I pick up the leash and sits (even though he is wiggling with excitement, he is still sitting)

As per LukeW said. We put some of our pups favourite toys in there and left the door open during the day. Put treats in there so when it explores the crate, it associates positive things with it, such as 'discovering' food in there. Feed him in the crate and close the door when doing so. Food will distract him for a while. Have crate in lounge with you and watch tv. Put chicken wing and pup in the crate and close the door. Ignore the carry on but as soon as he is quiet, walk over, open the door, and walk off. Don't create too much of a scene about letting him out. Wait a bit then play with him etc. At night, make sure his favourite toy/blanket is in there and shut the door. Ignore the protests. The first night Tealc (9 weeks) whinged the house down, for about 45 mins. Next night, half and hour, 3rd night about half an hour, 4th night about 10mins and 5th night 2 mins then nothing. We even got up and sneaked a look coz we wondered if everything was OK! Now, after 2 years, I have trouble getting him out of the thing and he puts himself to sleep in it!

Oh that is unreal!!! Thank you so much, I'm off to make it up for her now, she will be thrilled. Thanks so much, I can't tell you how awesome that is.
-
Mitch for the card. Thought maybe you could replace the string with tinsel?? Thanks heaps!
-
Mine must be fitted with power steering and cruise control because Tealc is walked with a finger through the loop of his lead.

My beach is quite shallow for a long way out and I walk out with Tealc until his feet are just touching the bottom of the ocean. We walk up and down the beach, in the water. He treads along the bottom of the ocean and then takes a little swim out deeper when he wants. Saved me heaps of money with the hydrotherapy and it has worked wonders for him. The vet is very pleased with his muscle gain. (I'm also pleased with my toned bum! - nice side effect of walking in thigh height water!) lol

Mitch did the same thing. Hard because he came from a home that had a doggie door and mine didn't (getting one soon shhh don't tell him lol) but he couldn't figure out why he couldn't just come in so he jumped up at the door and scratched. If I was in sight, in the kitchen, I turned my back on him and ignored him. As soon as he stopped and sat down, I opened the door. Repeat over and over. Now he comes running to the door and sits. Be patient, I know it's hard to listen to the scratching etc but a little constant and intense training will have him out of the habit in no time. We can't expect them to 'just get it' quickly coz it's annoying you. Thats pups

Sorry have to disagree with you there. Rotties are not notorious barkers. Rotties are known for being calm, quiet but assertive. Saying that though ALL bored dogs bark.
-
Yeah we get that. They cross the road or stand still as I pass looking scared stiff. My mums staffy and my rottie are two of th most pathetic sooks you'll ever come across The difference when I take my beagle out on his own is amazing. People smile at him, stop to pat and snuggle him. When I take Tealc out on his own, no one does that! lol. Although alot of people do say he's gorgeous but they always follow it up with "is he friendly?"
-
Thats explains why when my mum and I walk our staffy and rottie along the beach, no one will come near us!
-
Woo hoo!! Thank you, it's awesome!!
