I'd stop the chicken necks, fish oil, kangaroo. Will feed small size of rice + chicken stock + a bit of natural yogurt. I always find this to be working with mine. Don't feel bad about bothering the vet, you are doing what you think is best for your dog. It's better be save then sorry. Best wishes

Parvo Virus - New Puppy On Holidays At Dog Friendly Holiday Rental
Dogsrules replied to Peter D's topic in Puppy Chat
I know of a someone who has taken her pup everwhere, although she was only vaccinated once at 6 weeks. The dog are still alive & well, I think now is around a year old. But this could be just pure luck Personally, I wouldn't take the pup for holiday, just to risky. -
I spoken this to a vet and he said that there is no negative with the heartworm injection. He gave me assurance that all his patients has no problem with it. However, I still use the monthly chewable though. Cheers.

I wouldn't recommend using foil to cover food. Even in restaurant, they put baking paper before the foil, so there is no real contact between food & foil. I covered food with plastic wrap, if I do put it in the fridge & I try not to have direct contact between them, just for my own piece of mind. Cheers.

My dad just told me that his old dog just died of Distemper. This dog was vaccinated every year & had just got one 2 months before he died. How is that possible ? Unbelievable !!

Thanks for the information, guys. If it is short lived outside the host, then I probably don't need to wash everything. Haven't heard of Nu-Stock, I'll google it. Although, I txted my workmate to let her tell her friend to use advocate, she replied back that the pup had been using advocate since last month and now, after advice from the vet, was given an ear drop, but she was told it's not clearing up...how effective is advocate ? Maybe it's just because the ear is still crooked that they think it's not cleared up ? Should I tell her to go & get a second opinion ? Honestly, when the pup was here, she didn't scratch as much, occasional scratch sure, but not persistent. Is this strong enough indication or some dogs an resist from scratching their ears ?

A girl that is a friend of my workmate got a cute puppy from petshop recently. She has giant ears, breed was put as Corgi x. The ears, one is crooked/ flop down, the other one is up like normal, which looks very funny on her. I petsit the pup over the weekend at my house and she played happily with my dogs, running around, play bite etc. Then just yesterday, my workmate told me that the pup has ear mites, on the ear that is crooked / flop down, owner has been giving her medication from the vet, but she said it hasn't clear up. I know nothing about ear mites so am hoping someone with experience can tell me more about it. Few questions that I have in my mind are : - Is ear mites contagious ? My dogs are using monthly frontline, will this prevents ear mites ? Should I take them all to the vet to get checked out ? - How does the ear mites pass on from one dog to another ? The pup slept in my room and used my dog's bed, so should I wash everything in bleach ? - What is the sign that a dog has an ear mites ? Do they scratch a lot ? Is there an incubation period ? - Can you see the ear mites if you look at the ears ? Or do you need a cotton bud swaps ? - What is the best way to get rid of them ? - How do you know if it hasn't clear up ? ( I'm just worried that owner thinks it hasn't clear up, just because the ear is still crooked, although the mites might have gone ) Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies, really appreciate it. Pug rescue Syd, I thought so too, they always have raw bone in the morning, I asked the butcher to chop 1 big bone to rounds and give them 1 each/day or I substitute with chicken necks / carcass / lamb off cuts / beef soup bone because I thought it will clean their teeth, apparently doesn't work for my small ones. Nekhbet, thanks for the info on Aquadent. I don't like using this kind of stuff anyway, so i think I'll try with brushing. Don't know how they're going to react to this, fingers cross Puggy Puggy, thanks for your detailed reply. Haven't heard that food should be 2 % - 3 % of ideal weight, learning something new here. I also never try most of the things on the list, well...I'll try more different stuffs after this. I usually just stuck with pet mince from the butcher + carrot / peas + carbs ( basmati rice /pasta/noodle ), plus canned tuna/salmon once a week. I can see from the BARF diet list that there is no carbs, but if I go to a rescue website, they usually have ' basmati rice' in their list for food donation. So...is carbohydrate needed in a dog's diet ? I never give raw offal, mainly because some said that it might contains worms. I usually put it in the oven on 120 for 1 hour or so, the cut if off to small pieces. Is it really safe to give it raw ? I don't normally give a whole fish or even fresh fish, just because of the bone. When I was 8 or 9, I had a puppy who died without any apparent reason and the autopsy concluded that a fish bone was the cause of it. Now I only use the canned fish, am I being paranoid for nothing ? Can they actually eat fish with bone, even small dogs like my chi girl in my avatar ? Oakway, cutting in half is a quick solution, but out of the 4 dogs, 3 are in perfect weight score ( small breeds ) ( 3/5, by which 3 is the best score ), only 1 is a bit over ( large breed ). I think my portion size is not totally out of whack, so I just want to see if maybe the stuffs that I'm giving them is not the right balance. Funny thing is, the 3 has a bit of plague / tartare, but the chubby one has perfect teeth. Maybe he stole all their bones while I'm not looking Their coats are all in good condition so I'm pretty happy with that

Hi, it seems 1 of my dog is a bit overweight, around 5 kg...vet said he needs to be given the dry food that has weight management etc etc, but I don't normally use dry food...so has anyone know of a diet plan that uses only natural food ( mince/vegie etc ) ?. Would appreciate any advice. Also, I was told that he has a bit of plague on his teeth. Apparently chicken necks & bones still not enough. Recommendation was to give Aquadent. Has anyone try this stuff ? Does it really works ? I read in Dogslife magazine about another product that is american made and sprayed on, can't remember the brand, but if anyone has tried any similar products and it works, I would really appreciate the info. I don't mind buying the products as long as it works. Many thanks

HI all, I thought I post here for advise. He has a 7 mo old male shih tzu who wee on any situation ( wee when greeted, wee when storoked, wee everytime he has attention basically ). He has been put in the backyard, while the other male dog is inside the house...so this is not ideal as they loves playing with each other and owner wants him to be inside as well, but can't do it if he keeps on weeing like that and his 15 month old daughter might slip coz of it. He is thinking that this is just a phase and he'll grow out of this wee problem when he is older. Is this right ? Has anyone experience this before ? BTW, I rarely go online, due to work commitment, so please be patient if I don't response quickly to your post. Cheers.

What Are Dolers Feeding Their Dogs
Dogsrules replied to Baileys mum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
As some other posts, you have to set the rules. If the pooch is not eating the food you gave him, take it away & put it down again in a couple of hours. Don't get to concern if they don't eat it, they will eventually eat it when they know that you're not offering anything else. I would say, raw food is much more appealing ( mince meat / mince chicken necks ), I mix it with a bit of rice / pasta, add egg & yogurt, also chopped raw carrot / peas and I gave them fruit treats ( green apple, watermelon & mango are their fav ). I also give them raw bone from the butchers to chew on during the day when I'm at work. I also gave fish once a week ( canned tuna / salmon ). They all loves it.
