  1. Oh the poor baby .That look . Lets hope you have found the problem now and she can be treated and get better. That nail looks very sore. Big hugs from Maggie :p :D
  2. She is gorgeous and thankyou for taking her in . Put the weight on slowly buy giving her lots of little feeds, lots of love and a good bath and she'll have a smile on her face in no time.
  3. Thanks for that t time . God I hope not, I can't handle one flea . I don't know what I would do with a outbreak and especially ones that stuck on. Our adopted dog came to us absolutely crawling in the little blighters and I just freaked out. All the dogs were washed and advantaged the cats were advataged all bedding washed and soacked in pyrethrum ect I do feel so sorry for people that have bad flea infestations cause they are so hard to get rid of once you have them.
  4. That's just amazing. You learn a new thing everyday. I have worked as a vet nurse and then had a mobile dog wash and I have never come across them. I have had dogs with so many fleas that it physically made me sick with the blood and smell but never fleas that stick on like that. wow must be horrible little things especially hard to get rid of.
  5. Sorry for my ignorence but what are stickfast fleas? what are the differences between them and ordinary dog and cat fleas ?
  6. He is absolutely gorgeous. Is there a photo forum for "scruffies" if not you could start one with these pics as they are great
  7. I am so sorry sorry for your loss . So young to be taken away from you. to all that knew and loved Abby RIP Abby
  8. I'd suggest Bowen therapy also. The lady that does Maggie's bowen did a human couse then a animal one as she says that animals are easier to treat and she gets better results. She also does some physhic thing by touch I don't really believe in this or understand it but I have to admit it does seem to work well .
  9. You were such a big gentle giant. Everyone will miss you heaps especially your best mate Jake. ;)
  10. It is very good especially for long haired dogs esp shelties ( Right Hesapandabear). Being high pressure it cleans right down to the skin and removes all the dead hair ect. Much better on the back and dogs don't jump around as much as confined in the bath. Quicker all round I'd say. Edit to say you can use hot water and maggie luvs her hydrobath
  11. Maggie gets chicken wings each morning and they are ones you buy for humans so I hope they don't have parasites! The best thing to do is watch and make sure your dog just doesn't woof it down but chews it. It takes Maggie 2 seconds with necks so I think that's useless but it takes her a while with the wings and she uses her back teeth to chew it so I hope she is getting benefit out of them ( ie cleaning her teeth)
  12. I really don't know how the new hydrobaths stack up now. We bought our first one 11 years ago from conmurra and its still being used in a grooming business now. Never has had a problem I think only hoses have needed to be replaced. We've had our second also from conmurra for about 8 years and it is still going strong although only used for home dogs the past 3 years.
  13. I am so sorry for your loss. What a rotten thing to happen to you the breeder and of course the little one. I am so happy to hear how the breeder reacted to the news it is nice to know that they did care and I'm sure it made you more comfortable with the whole thing.
  14. The home brand are cheaper because I think they have a plastic handle and I'm not sure but you may not be able to get replacement blades. I use a 20 and 26 on maggies body She is a cocker spaniel and a 10 on her feathers . The 20 is much better than the 26 but she hasn't a thick coat she really just has silk hair no undercoat. As Vehs says the number is how many hooks and a double have double row of hooks. If you ring Mars they are very helpful and can guide you in the right direction. I got mine straight from the company.
  15. Where Maggie went to puppy pre school they wouldn't take more than 7 puppies. We had 5 puppies in the class. At first Maggie was very reserved and another puppy was very scared by the 3rd class Maggie was playing with the biggest buffiest puppy there ever was I'm probably greatful for this as she isn't scared of any size dog now. The puppy that was really scared, by the last class it was fine played with the other one the same size. Maybe try and find another class with less puppies
  16. Not sure what you mean there Poodlefan, I operate a Mobile grooming business & ALL our dogs are washed in fresh water, and also rinsed in clean fresh water. If you are not happy with what your groomer is doing then don't take it back. I have a fantastic rapport with all my clients, & make a point of know EXACTLY what is required. We are not all bad !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I agree Silverblue I Had a mobile dog grooming business also. We too used fresh water each time and made sure all shampoo ( Use soap free rinses anyway) was rinsed off. We had a great business . I sold it 6 years ago but still get phone calls asking to wash peoples dogs as they know I still have a hydrobath at home ( small town grapevine).
  17. I'd do your dog yourself. I do mine and it is very rewarding to see the end product. I have a hydrobath and with a long haired dog I do think they get right down to the skin and also loosen up all the dead hair. A blower well I use an ordinary hair dryer but in your case maybe a proper grooming dryer would be better otherwise you may be there all day. There is a thread not long ago on driers and hydrobaths .
  18. used to use and found it very good but have swapped to the fidos black dog shampoo. My dog doesn't have skin problems. If yours does I would stick with the aloveen.
  19. I use a mars comb on Maggie. A Size #10 on the feathers and a #20 on the body.
  20. Maggie did this up until about a month ago ( 13 months of age ). I used to get my visitors to ignore her and then when she calmed down she got attention. She used to jump up and was terrible but now she goes up to them and gets excited rolls around but doesn't jump. I found the hardest thing was getting visitors to ignore her . Most would say "Oh no she's ok I love dogs. If your dog is a puppy it will learn it is a slow process but you will get there. Yes putting her on a lead and have some control is good idea. Do you take her to puppy school ? It is a good idea learn all the little tricks on bringing up a pup.
  21. we have bought two hydrobaths both from conmurra. Our originl one was bought 10 years ago and sold with our dog wash business and it is still going strong.
