  1. fingers crossed for you Erin. Hope everything turns out ok.
  2. very simply Bowen is a very very gentle massage with no manipulation . The therapist can realign muscle and tendons. There is much more of course to it than that . The bowen therapist I know also works on the mind as well don't ask me how and I don't really understand it and find it hard to believe but hey it works. so I let her do her stuff . She is a qualified animal bowen therapist as well as a human one. Joint guard is brilliant stuff have tried sasha's blend but find the joint guard works better . If you haven't started on some sort of glucasamine formular I would suggest you do as it takes a few weeks but you will see a difference.
  3. ;) gilbertgrape My cocker has HD and was diagnosed at the age of 7 months. With controlled exercise, massage, bowen therapy, and joint guard we have been able to control this condition. It may be different with your dog as he is older but with Maggie the specialist did say that because she is young if we do the non surgical approach she may develop a psuedo hip and by excercising, the muscles build up to support the hip. I feel this has happened as she is now nearly 2 and yes some days she has discomfort but she is not in the pain she was at 7 months . Yes tell the breeder she needs to know.

  5. I am a joint guard fan . Seems to work the best on a HD dog .
  6. I am so sorry, so young ;) to you hesapandabear and Cara's owner's RIP little Cara
  7. That's great news I'm glad everything went ok. Maggie sends lots of for a quick recovery
  8. Thanks mtg, have you had an animal treated there before? Maggie saw the orthopedic specialist there. Everyone was friendly and very caring.
  9. All the best for next week. She'll be well looked after there.
  10. RIP little Suki
  11. Oh how lucky If I was able to buy one I would. Thought about it as a business as I think it will become very popular both for dog sports and rehab purposes . I take Maggie once a week for hydrotherapy and also she goes in a underwater treadmill .I have to drive over 1 hour away but it is worth it as it has helped her heaps. Maggie showing of the spunky life jackets.
  12. Don't give up . It took until Maggie was 12 months before it fineally clicked with her. Now its bliss haven't had a problem since.
  13. I would suggest some higher obedience training also . Maybe let your daughter be involved in this training as it is not only training for Bailey but also training you and your daughter.
  14. Maggie is now 18 months. She walks with a slight limp, doesn't do a lot of running around. She did jump on my lap this morning for the firts time ever so I'm figuring the hydrotherapy may be doing some good. We had a choice of surgery but the specialist really thought that she was too old for the one they can do on very young pups. He suggested we try the non surgical approach as he has found many dogs can cope and learn to adjust and then maybe down the tract an athroplasty ( I think) where they take the joint out . He tended to say that they get just as good results in this type of op as do the hip replacement. Treatment is very much an individual thing. Maggie is only a medium dog 14 kg so she hasn't got the weight of say a german shepherd or in your case a husky /Mal to carry around.
  15. Firstly I'd like to say How sorry I am for you and your dog I know exactly what you are going through. Maggie was diagnosed with HD at 7 months. I would suggest if you can to maybe see the specialist and they can advise on certain options. The specialist I saw explained everything really well comforted me because yes it is a very upsetting time and gave me confidence that yes she has HD but it is managable. I use Joint Guard and find it very good. Maggie also has hydrotherapy and special exercises to try and strengthen the muscles. I feel that Maggie manages her HD very well. She knows how far and what she can do. She has got around things by putting her body in a certain way so that her hips do not take any force. It's hard to explain but dogs do cope very well and learn what hurts and what doesn't.
  16. Its getting there. Well done ! I don't think Maverick and Gomez are too happy at having their pics taken . Gorgeous
  17. Bailey's been a naughty boy ;) I can't really help. Compared to Bailey Maggie was an angel
  18. Patience . It took Maggie until her first birthday to get the message. Amazing as soon as she reached 1 she stopped going inside and started asking to go out.
  19. I agree showdog. If you get a high maintenance dog you either spend the time to groom it or you take it somewhere regularly for someone else to do it. I could say if you haven't got the time to groom then get a short haired dog but then again people would still neglect that dogs needs . It takes me 10 minutes a day to groom Maggie . After our walk/ run in the morning I groom her to get out all that debri. Better to get it out quickly before it gets too tangled. Once you get into a routine it is easy.
  20. I just ordered for the first time fom vet 'n 'pet direct. They where great, ordered one day arrived the next .
  21. This is so sad to think that people don't realise there dog has sores, injuries that need attention. I think you are doing the right thing. If not for anyone but for the dogs. I agree with you showdog. Good Idea to feel the dog first as you can imagine some people blamming you for the dogs condition. Taking photos is also a good idea I had a client once that blamed the clipper for a cut on her dog but after seeing her with scissors cutting matts off her dog I knew it was her . I use to wash dogs and often felt very sick after wahing some dogs . Especially those with so many fleas that you could really smell the blood. Only ever saw one dog with maggots and that really turned my stomach. So All I can say is well done.
  22. I have just started taking Maggie to Hydrotherapy. They have both a swimming pool and an aqua treadmill which provide non-weight bearing excerise , hence reduces joint impact whilst building muscles . Also use joint guard and have had some bowen therapy done.
  23. I am so sorry to hear about your dog Kandi. I know what you are going through as Maggie was also diagnosed with Hd at the age of 7 months . I personally didn't expext any refund as I took Maggie on and I feel it is my responsibilty to ensure she has everything she needs to lead a happy and healthy life. All I wanted from the breeder was some sympathy, a recognition that it is in her lines and possibly some help in managing the disease. I suppose it is up to the individual but don't forget if you want a refund as with anything you will have to give the dog back. PM me ( if you want ) as I have been there and done that as far as all the NON SURGICAL options available.
