Silly Cat

Now that her mouth is less tender, I've had a good look at her teeth and she had a few of her front teeth out so she has a gappy grin! She has all four canines and a few molars. She is loving her cubes of meat so if she can't eat bones again I think she'll be ok. I am hoping to hang on to her remaining teeth for as long as possible so I am putting gel on her gums and brushing her teeth. Will she be able to get the meat of lamb shanks or things like that with a few teeth? The vet left as much of the bone as possible to enable her to eat as much as possible.

I am just devestated for Ginny. The vet left her canines and a few molars but she thinks they will all need to come out. Ginny's tongue is hanging out and I feel so sorry for her. She is eating cubes of meat and is ok in her self but I feel so bad for her. Our other greyhound Zorro never raced and he has perfect shiny white teeth!

Poor Ginny actually had to have 10 out! The vet said she will probably lose the whole lot!

Poor Ginny the greyhound is having at least 5 teeth out today. She has bad gingivitis and even though I've been brushing her teeth and feeding her lots of bones, she is still going to lose them. How do dogs cope with extractions? The vet has given us lots of information but I was wondering what people's experience was. Can they still manage bones? Ginny loves lamb necks and pork and beef ribs. Poor girl!

We'll just keep an eye on her. She loves her bones so we'll try our best to look after her teeth but we won't let her be in pain if they start to bother her. Poor Ginny! Zorro has beautiful shiny white teeth - lucky boy!

I wasn't at the vet so I am not 100% sure what's going on but we've got her a toothbrush and we will do our best to keep her teeth clean!

Ginny went for a scale and clean today because her teeth were pretty yellow. The vet cleaned them but said they may only last 2-3 years more. Ginny is a 3 year old greyhound. She eats lots of bones (chicken frames, chicken wings, ribs, lamb necks etc) but I was wondering what else we could do to help her keep her teeth healthy as long as possible! Thanks

Awww Jack! Zorro has a warm snuggly jacket but I think I will get him a lighter one too and one to wear walking!

Is it better if I add a couple of cups of dryfood to his barf patties?

Here is a photo of him with his friend Sylvia the cat! He is a bit thinner now. I sometimes bulk his food up with some rice or pasta. Is that a good idea as well as some dry food?

Zorro actually isn't all that interested in food! He often needs a bit of encouragement to eat. I will just keep trying to feed him up. I was a bit worried I was overfeeding him! He will also often bury bones when I give them to him.

Hi. At the moment I am feeding Zorro BARF patties. He weighs 25 kilograms (he is a very small greyhound). He is eating 3 BARF patties a day plus one or two chicken frames and one or two chicken wings and a lamb chop. He also sometimes has some dryfood with pet milk - this is heaps more than it says to feed him according to the BARF instructions! He is still quite thin - ie I can see most of his ribs and his spine. He does a bit of exercise but not heaps! He is wormed regularly. Do greyhounds just need more food?

He gets an hour walk every morning and sometimes a shorter walk in the afternoon. He also runs around in the garden (often with a flower pot in his mouth - so cute!!!) He does have lots of bones but I think he could have some more. He also has a kong and a buster cube and balls and squeaky toys for outside! I think he might actually have so many toys thinks everything is a toy so I have packed most of them up and will have two or three inside toys out at a time and rotate them!

When Zorro came to live with us he was very shy and extremely well behaved. As he has settled in he has really come out of his shell. I now call him Mr Bounce because he is soooo happy. He bounces up and down on the spot when he is excited because he knows not to jump up. Unfortunately with this new happy behaviour have come a few little problems. He eats shoes and bras and anything else he can get his mouth on. We do put things away but then he chews on wooden furniture! He also digs in the garden and takes washing off the line. He gets plenty of exercise and has company nearly all the time (I am at home studying most days except one when I do voluntary work). What can we do to make him better? He has lots of toys (and I mean lots!!!) and we love having him around but it would be easier if he wasn't so out of control!

OK! Thanks for all the advice! Tough love it is!!! I won't even rush out and get him any new dry food. He can eat the mix he has at the moment! I have chicken frames etc for him but I will stop giving him anything too nice till he learns to eat his dry food. I am such a mean mummy but I guess it is for his own good in the long run!

I have been doing that with the dry food and it sits all day. He is pretty thin. You can see all his ribs and his hips and spine are pretty easy to feel! He is a greyhound and I know they are meant to be slim. My brother always says that animals are like children and that if there is food there they won't starve but I feel a bit mean! I will just keep feeding him a variety of extras and try to mix in some of the other brands of dry food!

He has a matress and a doona in his crate and he often takes food in there if I feed him inside! Funny guy! I watched him eat tonight. He had a bowl of porridge with an egg yolk in it and lots of cubes of fatty lamb! I had to stand over him and stop him from taking the food and hiding it! I am off to get some different kinds of dryfood tomorrow!

Zorro is a fussy eater. GAP sent some coprice with him but he really doesn't like it. I have mixed it in with Eukanuba puppy but he doesn't really like that either (he picks it out of the coprice but only after it has been sitting there for a long time). I have been giving him table scraps and he likes most of those (eg cooked meat, cooked fish, veggies, pasta etc). He seems to like raw food (lamb, beef, chicken - both with and without bones) but he doesn't always eat it - he often buries it in the garden!! He doesn't really like the "treat" biscuits we bought him but he will eat them. What are some suggestions for fussy dogs (I thought it was cats that were fussy!!!!)
