Clare1234's great dane stella who recently passed from DCM was under Dr Woolleys care i know she has nothing but the highest praises of him, he even called her whilst he was O/S to see how stella was going when she had her lateset episode and he wasnt around.

id be getting a nice trigger hose for whenever kitty is in yard - turn hose on and ta da, no more cat! ( i hate cats that roam)

My shih tzu has been EASY to house train, i think the problem is the smaller the dog, the less they are treated like a dog, plus their baldders are smallwer, so it means more regular trips outside!! As the messes are smaller, many owners are less fastidoius about it, i remember when my mates great dane pup was 6 months old and someone shut the door yo the courtyard on her, that puddle was HUUUGE!! We always go outside with the dogs, and reward them for peeing/ pooing outside, and even now when my dogs are trained we still take them outside regulary and give the command "go to the toilet" so they have NO reason to hold on and have anccident when inside> its funny actually, our friends maltese x used to be a buggar for holding on and then almost involuntarily peeing all over the floor, but when we got our pup we started taking the malt out to and giving them both the toilet command, ( as the malt stays at our place frequenty) we actually retrained our friends dog to go to the toilet on command, inadvertantly because he was with our pup so much. this dog never even used to go in his own back yard, his owner used to always take him up to the top of the drive, so he would mark his territory, and he didnt like peeing when the grass was wet. i think it was more a case of the owner was to impatient to stand outside and WAIT until he went, and the dog learned he didnt have to go to the toilet when taken out, now he always goes , it just shows what a difference the type of training you do and how consistent you are with it.

it can be done!!! bigger rabbits are better, mre intimidating, but smaller dogs ive found are more tolerant. dot in the pics is a whippet x from the pound -very high bunny drive, but supervision was the key and a bit like cats, any unwanted interest was quiclky reprimaded. still wouldnt totally trust her unsupervised though.

Kyzer was done at 6 months, the neuter was $150, he had a retained baby tooth, so I asked them to remove it while he was under, it was just hanging on, I figured they may as well do it to save waiting for it to fall out. When I picked him up the bill was $205, they had charged me $55 to just yank his tooth out, he was already under for the desex, I thought it was a bit rough. Teach me for not asking prices before I agree to things :roll: Although I thought the $150 desex was an okay price, it included the pain relief needle. well my vet in seymour charges about 150 for desexing i think thats girls, boys are a bit cheaper. the vet in melbourne ( in a well to do suburb ) was going to charge over 250 for evrything. needless to say boyfriend got boy dog done at my vet in seymour. He does all my dogs - hes very good i think he charges less cause in the country far less people wopuld get it done if he chraged what the melb vets do, but he also himself made comment about not overcgharging like some vats can. hes very down to earth. when same pup developed a mystrey limp, melb vet said its and ocd, he needs xrays asap we will book you in on thuurdsay - min 400 bucks for xrays, and if it is ocd (or displaysia) will have to operate. i wasnt happy with this, so took pup to my vet in the country, he said, well dog is to young to know for sure any way (was under 18 months old) he hasnt stopped growing yet, and if i xray now there is very little chance of being able to see anything properly as hes not done maturing anyway. so dog went on course of joint lubricant injections at a cost of 12 dollars each once a fortnight no consult charge for subsequent injections - and 6months later, he is fine, absolutely no problems. if i hadnt stepped in oh would have been up for some very hefty xray bills im scared to think what they would have said about surgery!! i think my vet is very honest and doesnt try to rip you off. im not impressed with the melb vet everytime the dog goes there, they go the whole hog ( and im usually not there cause im at work) and charge for anything i can think of. A grass seed cost 250 bucks to remove from ear, ( because they had to sed him to do it) at my vet if the dog needs a sed to do it its only 80 bucks.

i agree cosolmo, the situation could very easily get quite bad. i will pass your details on to them. she is a very sweet dog, and is great with her family, but lacking in any social skills, such a shame, another perfectly good staffy that may be ruined by ignorant people.

Hi folks, just wanting any reccomendation for trainers iin the warrandyte area and surroounds for friends of my boyfriends family. They purchsed a staffy x female about 7 months ago from the RSPCA and are having issues with it, the usual stuff, they got it for a friend for their older sons existing staffy x and it was fine at first, but the mum (who bought the dog) has no support from the rest of the family and the dog is getting more and more out of control. she is badly behaved on walks, pulls, barks at and wants to chase cars, bikes joggers etc, is petrified of strangers entering the house and barks intimidatingly at them etc etc. i have recommended they get the dog to obedience asap, but i think they need some one on one training as well. They have done the wrong thing not socalising this dog properly as soon as they got it and they should never have got her if they werent prepared to make the commitment of training, but the mum desperatley wants to try and fix the problem, and is willing to get the help needed. typical story, the sons dog is ok behaviour wise, and they have been lucky with him, they obviously thought the other one would be tthe same-- WRONG and now its all coming to a head. i took her for a walk on saturday, and with a few corrections she was walking pretty well and leaving cars/distractions alone. she is very quick learner but she was very nervous of me and wouldnt let me pat her until the end of our walk when she realised i wasnt going to do anything scary to her. ill be keeping a close eye on the situation, and making sure they do folloewthrough with some training, but the mum works on weekends, and the rest of the family wont take the dog to training PATHETIC I KNOW!!! so im after obedience weeknights and some good behavouralists to get them started. Thanks to all We have booked the pup in for the 15th July start. Looks like it is popular, with our other 2 other doggies going on a wait list and starting in August. Hi all, We are looking for any obedience clubs that you can reccomened in the ringwood/croydon ansd surrounding areas. My BF has a 6 month old shih tzu, i have a 3 year old whippet x and our good friend has a 2 year olds shih x we are wanting to go somewhere we can take them all for basic ob and some xtra socialisation. Weeknights / flexbile classes would be great !! all dogs have basic manners, eg sit,come ( most of the time) walk on leads etc but we would like to refine and have some fun! The youngest also is having a few issues when walking out and getting a bit nervous when he sees strange dogs so some help with that is also another reason for going. any suggestions welcomed. Ant one had experience with "teachers Pets" in croydon? have a flyer from them but dont know much about them.. thanks

Hi, am wanting to know the basic health checks / screening for malteses or shih tzu's. What major health problem are the two breeds prone to etc and that are heriditary. Luxating patella and eye problems are two i think, what are some others that i should be asking about when looking for a pup? Thanks

Id just like to add one other important thing to think about- you mentioned that spike is a FULL BROTHER to your two females, there is absoluteley no way that you should breed him to your two girls wether there are other risks involved or not. That is asking for trouble. you should never breed siblings
