No his itches only seem to flare up around this time of the year JulesP and then when it gets a bit hotter he will be ok again. I've used the quit itch on my horses before so I'll give it a go on him. I find malaseb seems to make him itch worse. I'll pop him into the vets again and have him looked at. I take the dogs to work with me a fair bit so that'll keep him off the grass a bit.

Yes, I agree. Poor Leroy because he is itching like crazy or poor Leroy because he sleeps outside and we won't get him allergy tested? The vet didn't recommend having him tested and simply said it was a spring contact allergy. And poor Leroy is a fully trained flyball dog who travels around everywhere with us and chooses himself to sleep outside. I can bring him inside and he will toilet everywhere over night. Put him in a crate and he will cock his leg and pee out the side of the crate. Put him in the large enclosed cat crate and he will pee all over the bottom of it and then lay in it. When I go to bring the others in they run to the gate, he bails to the kennel and stays there. I'm not going to force him to sleep in if he doesn't like it. And we are doing everything for Poor Leroy taking into consideration that neither of us are even sure if keeping him is a good idea. We have taken full responsibility for him because it's not his fault that we decided to rescue him and nor is it his fault he doesnt really fit it. It's also not his fault that we have 6 other dogs and are expecting our first baby and simply can not afford to have him allergy tested. Regardless of what he is allergic to it won't change anything. I can't pull all of the grass out of the pen and make the others suffer for his sake and nor will I have him inside constantly toileting everywhere. Poor Leroy spent the first 6 months, yes a full 6 months, of his life in a pet store. No one wanted to buy him and the glass box he was in, seperated from his only sibling has left a lasting effect on his personality. When a friend bought him and it didn't work with their dog we took him on in the hopes of giving him a better life and quiet frankly we have done exactly that for the past year. I don't need to be berated for trying to do the right thing by him. Wow, thanks for the life story, but it wasn't neccessary. My comment was in direct relation to the fact that he hasn't been tested and is obviously in a lot of discomfort and pain. Determining the allergy will enable you to improve his life. Without knowing what it is that sets him off he has no chance of ever having a comfortable life unless luck has it his way. I don't think much of a Vet that doesn't try to determine what the allergen is either when a dog is that itchy he is causing skin lesions and develops subsequent infections. I would change Vets. Re-homing him will simply pass on the problem to someone else. On a last note, you didn't 'rescue' him, you got him from a friend. OK so we didn't rescue him even though he'd have ended up dead anyway. I think you mistake me. We have no intentions of rehoming him because he itches. It's because the only reason my OH hasn't moved him on yet is because I keep saying no. He is ment to be OH's dog and if he doesn't want him then I have to take responsibility for him and quite frankly I am not a little dog person. I already have 4 dogs of my own and do not want another to walk everyday and another set of vaccinations etc and no matter how you look at it I can not afford to have him tested at the time. I have heard I'm looking at close to 1000 for testing and with me being off work for maternity leave soon we can't do it. He has only developed infections once about a year ago, other than that his skin is red and itchy. I'm trying to do the right thing for him by trying to find a way to stop him being so itchy all the time without needing him tested. I have no idea what to do about it. We made a mistake by getting him, we never should of. And because of his skin it is virtually impossible to rehome him because why should someone else have to deal with this all the time? I'm not proud to say that we are thinking of rehoming him since I work in a pound and see this everyday.

Organic sulfur powder is one of the main ingrediants in the specialist versions of moo goo so basically it's a cheaper version of that. There is nothing in the back yard except grass. The dogs are in a pen and thats all there is in there. We are seriously considering rehoming him so I can't see my OH getting him tested. Not because of his itching but because he doesnt fit in well around here and when we rescued him we probably should have never got a small dog. All the dogs sleep inside except him because he refuses to come in at night. He actually chooses to sleep outside. He is a weird little bugger. No the vet wasn't all that helpful. Better take him back there I guess and see what they advise this time.

No he hasn't been tested. He's on an entirely raw diet and the vet who has treated him said it's a contact allergy. They gave him steroids and antibiotics for where he had rubbed himself raw on the concrete. It's on his stomach, inside of front legs and back legs. Nothing around his eyes, ears or muzzle. Flares up in spring.

Our dog, Leroy, has contact allergies and his skin is pretty bad at the minute. We use a mixture of sulfur powder and olive oil mixed into a paste and rubbed into his skin and it works a treat most of the time. At the minute he is so itchy that we put it on and he is back scrubbing at the grass or concrete in no time. I'm wondering what anthistimines I can use on him to help him stop being so itchy while the sulfur powder takes effect? He is a 7-8 kg 18 month old JRT. All he cares about at the minute is itching himself and I must say it is driving me insane!! And if it is bugging me it must be even worse for him.

So sorry to hear that. What do you mean by his back end is going? Arthritis? Or anything else? yes he has athritis in his spine so he drags his hind legs when he walks, he slips over and can't get up, he can barely feel his right foot at all. He also pees his bed everynight and poos it most nights.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Has anyone had any experience with Australian pet cremation and burial company in rowville?

I think it is almost time to say goodbye to my old boy Menace and I am looking for a quality cremation company in melbourne please. Does anyone have any personal experience with any of them? I would much prefer to not have to leave him at the vets clinic if i can avoid it. I need to get my head around it earlier rather than when it actually happens. It's so hard because his back end is going and he is having so much trouble getting up and down the stairs but his mind is still able :D

Do you know how long she was held for? Or her name by any chance? I find it hard to believe any dog would be returned undesexed by them. The councils don't bother trying to have pits declered very often anymore. They very rarely win if it goes in front of the board and what is the chances the dog is actually pure pitbull and not a cross of some type anyway. I also find it rather amusing that people who have commented in this thread think it would be better if the dog was PTS or held back at the pound pending a board decision rather than have a litter of cross breed puppies. No one knows if this dog even did attack the smaller dog or what happened and yet she would be the one to suffer because of what two morons thought was a good idea. Have they actually mated yet? Isn't it against DogsVic rules to use a papered dog to cross breed with? If so report your SIL to them instead. Tell her she has ruined any chance she has of ever mating him with a registered golden. Get her in trouble. She's the one doing the wrong thing not the poor dog.

Ok so have I got this right in regards to the pitty? She was recently at the pound, seized for attacking another dog? In frankston pound? And she was released undesexed and registered as an am staff?

Hey guys. Our dogs eat raw(mostly chicken carcass, lamb necks, pigs heads, fish, offal etc) I'm wanting to add some slops to their meal tomorrow. They are having lamb heart, lambs fry and a chicken we had in the freezer and to bulk it out a little and add some variety I was planning on making a slops out of vegies, eggs, yogurt and olive oil. Just wondering how much yougurt everyone gives their dogs? Our dogs range from 38kg to 8kg and everything in between Also can they eat silverbeet? OH was growing some and we ate most but there is some left over i was planning on putting through the blender for the dogs. Can they have it?
