  1. Oh im in, i was getting so frustrated with my Oly and now i have a Nikon im all inspired again, so im also doing the 365 project. This year im really hoping to learn how to post process properly, ive been torn about it in the past, i think i held the belief that the photo coming straight off the camera should speak for itself - but i love some of the techniques ive seen used. Anyways here is my first one, hoping to see lots of improvement this year.
  2. Yup me! Love your first one Ravyk! I am hoping to improve lots by doing this and broaden my horizons of what and how i shoot. Mine are here
  3. Im a bit bias re GSP's. We have three, they are great with the cats and come down and do the chores with me, they do try and eat the horsefeed but i dont mind so much. Mine are all VERY smoochy and when i am pottering about the house i generally have a two dog escort (including supervised toilet visits if they can get in), but they will go and lie somewhere else if told to. I dont think i could ever not have a GSP now for the rest of my life.
  4. So sorry for your loss. Rest in Peace gorgeous girl, running free at the Bridge now.
  5. A beautiful tribute to what sounds like a very special dog. Rest In Peace Journey.
  6. This is a great site for inspiration and has some contact from serving members as well http://oceanskykhaki.blogspot.com/2009/05/...r-contents.html
  7. Thank you for all your replies - i have been passing them on and my aunty is very thankful for all your info.
  8. Oh dear! Glad everything is ok. I think Teebs dogs are the best for eating things @ has eaten oh so many things, she will have to put her list up. Mind you Flute seems to view this as a personal challange!
  9. Thank Noisy - there was also info about a treatment recommended by vets and someone who had experience with the treatment and it worked? I tried to search for the thread but had no luck. Obviously its not to replace medical treatment but at this point she is willing to try anything that wont hinder the other treatment.
  10. On alternative methods for treating cancer. My aunties dog has recently had a leg amputated and starts chemo this week. There was a thread a while back which had something about a juice that has done wonders? Any information would be great.
  11. Defence pays for all soldier mail - so stamps or postage type things are not needed.
  12. I have inside knowledge that these packages are VERY much appreciated. Yes Defence supplies them with everything they need but its always nice to know that people back home are supporting you and have a few little luxuries - ration packs in the field are nutritiously sound but no particularly enjoyable! Some of the more popular things are things like the hot chocolate/coffee packet mixers, lollies and letters of support. You can also send a blank sheet of paper in a stamp self addressed envelope so that your soldier can send you requests or even just a thankyou. Please be patient with the people from the NWCC (National Welfare Coordination Centre) there are only three of them that work the office in Australia and it is manned 24 hours. Defence puts on extra mail planes over Christmas as many, many people send packages over. Photos from last year in the link below Linky
  13. Luvmypet firstly good on for rescuing this boy! GSP's are excitable and at two your boy is just a baby still. He is very close in age to my youngest girl! GSP's need to be stimulated mentally as well, so a half hour of training will help to tire your boy out. Four weeks is not a lot of time for him to understand what you want and if he has been couped up in the pound then i can imagine he would take every opportunity to run (and boy do GSP's love to run). I wouldn’t be letting him offlead until you are well and truly sure that you have a reliable recall, which it certainly isnt too late for him to learn. I would start by taking him back to basics and doing recall in your yard - then building up to recall on a long lead and then on a long lead in the park - that way you can always real him in if you need to. Oh Photos are essential to by the way Please come and join us in the German Shorthaired Pointer Thread in Breed Sub Forums
  14. All of my lunge leads for my horses have normal dog clips on them.
  15. Oh what wonderful news! Yay Chase nothing like being at home to heal - he wont look back now! So very pleased for you both!
  16. Thats interesting BM - sounds familiar too. **troops off to google**
  17. Ear cleaners eh? Maybe he just cant reach the ears? The girls lips are known round here as storage flaps - there is always something in there, generally bits of grass or bits of toys, very unusual for there to be leftovers though Food is inhaled round here.
  18. So George our JRT (probably X) foster failure has the incredibly strange habit of sticking his nose in and licking the girls (GSP's) lips. He gets right into it with gusto. Is this just a George thing or is a breed trait? Im not sure what he could possibly be doing in there but he reminds me of those birds that clean out the hippos teeth ETA photo
  19. Keep checking in here to see how things are going. Perse is right - live in the moment with him it might do you both the world of good. Still sending lots of strength and "wellness" vibes to both of you.
  20. There is very similar writing in an ad for horses on allclassifeds. Its awesome advertises them as House Trained and all (Gypsy Vanner =BIG horse also know as Gypsy Cob now).
  21. I have only just seen this thread, so glad things are looking more positive for him and cant imagine how scary it must have been for you driving him to the vets. Sending lots of healing vibes his way and strength yours.
  22. Why should it be obvious? A dog's temperament is a result of its genes mostly. And a dog can be wonderfully behaved in one person's hands, and behave very undesirably with another. I have never owned or raised the perfect dog, but I think the best way to get a great dog is to buy the right dog in the first place, work it and love it, and try to avoid doing anything to traumatise it. Get a dog from a great line of dogs. For the reason i used obviously see where i have bolded. I am firstly specifically requesting if people have raised a puppy to adult hood without making any errors or causing any hang ups or problems. Or if they have done everything right and there are problems anyhow. As to the second sentence ive bolded that where i was inquiring about adult rescue dogs with issues and weather they are rehabbed 100% I find it interesting reading peoples opinions about what makes an ideal dog and what issues are show stoppers. Im not trying to say anyone is right or wrong as it is ALL opinions based. I find dog behavior and training and interactions with people very interesting. How would people know whether their dog's behaviour is caused by genetics or a mistake they made? There are a lot of people that claim that their dog's temperament or faults is a result of its upbringing (or because its a rescue), when often the two biggest factors in the dog's behaviour are its temperament and its current management, not necessarily how the dog was raised. Talking about rehab just confuses the issue. Every dog is in the equivalent of rehab every day if somebody is working with that dog. I just think your line of questioning reinforces the common myth that it is people that train dogs to be what they are more than breeding them to be what they are. Even rescue dogs have genes, the rescue dog is not just a product of neglect or abuse or however it was raised. Being a purebred forum here, I would like to say it again. If you want a great dog, buy a great dog from a great line of dogs. And be proud you bought the right dog, don't take all the credit (or blame) of thousands of years of selective breeding, just cause you do a little obedience training with the dog, or make a mistake with its training or management. Thanks for your opinion.
