  1. I did not rearrange your words i actually quoted you directly. This is an open forum, you are bound to get people who disagree with you. I am disagreeing with what you wrote. Its not always possible to find out before hand. In an emergency when your best friend is in agony and the only responsible choice is to PTS all you can think about is how you are going to survive without them and spending those last few moments with them. Yes in this vulnerable state yes i do trust my vet totally and utterly. I have NEVER been called an irresponsible owner and i resent the inference from someone who has no knowledge of myself or my animals stating that because i did not stop to question the person who was to end my best friends suffering i am. None of my animals has ever suffered and for the record no sedation here either. I appreciate for you and for many others it was the best choice - however im sure there are just many who have the opposite view. Im not going to debate what is the best because i am NOT a qualified professional. An opinion is exactly that and every is entitled to there own as i am entitled to mine.
  2. Actually the first animal i had to have euthanize was a horse with severe impaction colic. I had no time to ring around and ask what to expect - are you calling me irresponsible? The next animal was a cat who was bitten by a snake - the vet suggested that treatment would be long and drawn out and the cat was quite old and would most probably not survive. Once again no time to chat to people and find out about it. After that i just trusted my vet to always do the right thing. I don't know anyone who has asked around about it. All my friends are responsible pet owners. I don't think its fair to make the assumption that a person is irresponsible because they did not ask about it first, i have been going to my vet for nearly 20 years now and i trust him to ALWAYS do the right thing by my animals.
  3. Totally agree, just because you don't know the options doesn't make you irresponsible, if you are responsible enough to make the right choice for your animal then how is it irresponsible to trust your vet to do the right thing? Even with horses its a quicker then 30 seconds and they are much, much bigger.
  4. It really depends, we have three bitches in this house two desexed and one not (mains register show dog). Flute (undesexed 14 month old bitch) gets along with everyone. Sienna and Lunar used to get along really well and will tolerate being in the same room together now however as they have had a fight previously we are extremely careful in the situation they are mixed together in. There is a lot of shuffling goes on during the say but we make it work and everyone is happy. Lunar is a rescue dog who had an appalling first five years of life and so has issues that have slowly decreased in time but will never truly be solved.
  5. I shared an experience that was deeply personal with whom i thought were like minded people. I was unaware that this was about one person grandstanding their opinion and insulting others who are not of the same opinion.
  6. The sad reality it that its not the people who are part of this forum that need to watch videos like these, its the people who think that Fido should have one litter because "she is the best dog all our friends want one" or "so the kids can see the miracle of birth" or because they just dont know any better. The ones who actually care about their dogs but don't have a clue as to what goes on down the road at the local pound. Unfortunately the people who really need to point driven home are the puppy farmers and its exactly that type that this would have no impact on because they have far worse and more cruel things happening in their own backyard. I think we need to continue to share what we find though - if one it just stops one litter from being born that will end up in this situation then its well worth it. This one, although American does the job fairly well and you dont have to actually watch the act. Brightlion - In Hope

  10. Oh well done! He does seem to me to be GSP x Pointer (more of a pointerish head) but thats just my unqalified opion and doesnt matter at all! Certainly come and join us in the GSP thread. They are just a divine breed and you will find you will have a totally loyal and devoted dog till the end of your days. Fabulous save, i look forward to hearing more as he matures and grows. ;)
  11. Maria i am so very sorry to hear this. I know how much Buddy meant to you and we can feel your pain from here. Run free at the Bridge Buddy, watch over your family and send some kisses to your poor heartbroken mum. All of us here at Bythorn are thinking of you Maria.
  12. Oh yes i remember sitting constantly hitting refresh and being incredibly proud to be part of the DOL community and humbled by Ambervales heroic actions. I would be happy to contribute to keep the Lion Hearted poodles story circulating... Off to send all my facebook friends Leos link .... sorry if you already have it Ambervale its so good to see you back again
  13. No words only tears. Rest in Peace honey may you find someone to cross the bridge with one day. For the newer members who are unaware of BSL: BSL Info These two sites are American: BSL Website
  14. The Tassie Devil (Flute) came up from Hobart with Dogtainers. They were wonderful and i would use them again .... (perhaps to send the Tassie Devil back!)
  15. "There are plenty more photos that for sure! Ill pick out some more to post. Thanks for your comments everyone, its a lovely place to spend some time thats for sure. Our horses for the most part are fairly used to them, we always carry a stockwhip just in case an overly protective stallion comes a bit close. At night our horses are always yarded and internal electric fence and hobbled to boot. Too many horses are stolen from the yards by the brumbies! Most of these shots were taken when we went driving/walking in the evening though. I love my horse but i dont trust him with my good camera!
  16. There are quite a few brumby "hotspots" if anyone is up this way and has an afternoon/evening to spare give me a yell, id be happy to take you for a drive up there
  17. I am so very sorry for your loss, run free Kapper, watch over your family until you meet again.
  18. Yeah i thought that too! There is a series of those - thats the mob belonging to the Stallion thats biting them further down, they were all fairly run down and the ugliest of all the brumbies we saw. We think it was a new mob and the stallion had only just aquired his ladies. Either that or it was a small band of colts being driven off by a stallion. We didnt get close enough to find out. The natural behaviour is amazing to watch, we spent a couple of hours per evening watching them - there is approx another 500 photos . I need to start doing some processing on them!
  19. Quite a few of the locals have been letting some mares go to improve the herd . They have come a long way from the fugly functional runts of yesterday and its awesome to see them so healthy. I spend a lot of time up there, generally just day rides (about an hour to the park from home with the float) and long weekends. We save this camp for week long treks though as its a fairly hairy road (think huge incline, single lane dirt road with several hairpins ) and about an hour or so in from the tar road. Unlike previous years where the NP have encouraged and paid people to catch the brumbies this year a total ban has been placed on chasing/catching them? Not sure why but the horse community has been told that anyone found to be chasing/catching brumbies will be escorted from the park and banned (not sure how they would enforce this though) not sure whats going on there? But i fell for several of the mares we saw up there and there is lots of colour about, most mobs have a roan and a couple had pintos! Far cry from the standdard bays and browns they used to be. Over the other side of the range though the peppercorn brumbies are all still the flaxen mane and tailed chestnuts.
  20. One of the biggest mobs we saw, with big black Alpha mare:
  21. Ok so here are some of my brumby photos - This is a stallion we nick named Kringle, we saw him every day with his tiny mob of three: The grey in this mob had a rope halter on, it was kind of upsetting as there are so many dangers associated with halters left on - rope ones in particular, it would have been nice to remove it for her but she was letting no one close. Just some of the hundreds of photos taken:
  22. Ok so just before Christmas i went for another week up the mountains with my horses. Originally quite a few people were going to come but in the end i headed up there with four, the first night saw two go home for an injured colt leaving just myself and another friend. Anyhow as always it was a glorious week up there and the brumbies are looking magnificent and very healthy so here are a few photos. Our campsite: Visitors to our campsite: The horse yards at camp: My friend Rachael on her borrowed horse Sambo ready to roll: The horses cooling down ready for a wash off after a hard days riding: Sunset from camp: The boys waiting for dinner: The biggest damn sceeter i ever saw:
  23. Yup i second Kirislin, Ruger has quite a few times touched up my photos and its always done with the best intentions and i have always appreciated it. It was never done with malice or to show off, rather as a fun thing that she enjoys doing and generally to the appreciation of the photo taker.
