  6. aww why dont i live in sydney! You lucky dogs!!
  7. I taught my dog to touch the ground with her nose at the bottom of the obstacle but now she just stops there (2on 2off) until released. I have been rewarding her for stopping even though she is not touching the ground with her nose like I origially wanted her to do. I am happy she is stopping there and I don't really care if shes not doing the nose touch just as long as she stops at the contact. Do you think it matters that shes not doing what I originally asked even though what shes doing is what I want (if that makes sense)?
  8. I read so much good stuff about raw food for dogs on the internet. She was on supercoat before raw and the amount of poop was enormous! Now she does small poops and is healthy and happy!
  9. Thankx everyone! Well it seems teaching the contacts is the "thing to do"! No seriously though, I think teaching a dog to stop at contacts is more reliable. Thats what I've been doing with my BC. She originally had to touch a small piece of wood on the ground at the bottom of the obstacle (see-saw in this case coz thats all I got) with her nose. Now she just touches the ground (faded the target out) with her nose, that way she has 2paws on 2 paws off. t(AD)pole
  10. Hi there! I'm interested to know how many people (in agility) actually teach their dogs to stop at a contact until they are given the next command. And how many people just slow their dogs down (like with a hand signal or something). At my dog club the agility instructor just gets us to slow or dogs down, but I would prefer to have a solid contact under my belt. So I am teaching my dog to touch her nose to the ground at the bottom of the contact obstacle (from Susan Garrets "Shaping Success") and I am interested to know how others teach it. Thanks!!
  11. My dog slept outside from day one and she still does. She never complains or whines and she will go outside if I tell her. She comes in during the day and we are outside with her often too so its not like shes being left outside all the time.
  12. I would like our club to have agility lessons. We have agility and if you higher then class 2 you can go and do some agility but that means everyone only gets 10 minutes doing agility . The reason I can to the club was to do agility and although I don't mind doing a bit of the obedience stuff I really want to concentrate on the agility more. Thats why I have to make and buy my own equipment to practice at home. All classes are at the same time and the whole thing only goes for an hour.
  13. Yes indeed thankx troy!!
  14. I don't know what you mean by that but my BC chases the hose and tries to catch the water in her mouth (before water restrictions) the same way. I agree. But I know how fun it is cooling the dogs off with a hose
  15. I use a bum bag sometimes or I just have them in my pocket or just in my hand. I use liver treats, bits of leftover chicken, frankfurts.
  16. I use revolution and its fine. EDIT: I dont have a greyhound (border collie).
  17. I train everyday when we are walking or just at home. Sessions usually only go for 15 mins but sometimes we play then train then play then train etc. so we train for longer.
  18. I don't know if this is a good idea but you could take a mat (picnic rug or tarp) for the pups to be on and maybe sit next to a bike path so there are people walking past an the pups are experiencing new things. Or you could just use it in a park or something... There are lots of big ovals aroud box hill area too. mont albert reserve, koonung creek trail... Or maybe you could take your pups to a shopping centre (outside) or somewhere where there is lots of trafic so they can get used to lots of people going past. You might need to take a mat for the pups or hold them though coz there could be nasties around.
  19. Go to puppy school as all the dogs there should be healthy and as Bella said take your pup to friends or relatives houses and it can play with dogs you know are healthy. Also you don't have to just socialise with other dogs (although it is still VERY important) take you pup to meet new people especially tall people who may seem scary (make sure the people have not come into contact with unhealthy dogs) and get the people to handle and touch your pup so it gets used to new people.
  20. Maybe you could organise a Kepala Park meet. Im sure there are lots of DOLers who would like to bring their dogs along and its great for solcialising. Also if dogs don't get along or you want to only have a few dogs with your pup at a time then there are different enclosures for the dogs. BTW when are you getting your pup?
  21. A lot of vets have puppy pre-school but i don't think they'll run over Christmas. ETA: Summer school sounds like a good idea. I don't know how i'm going to survive the holidays without obedience and agility training!
  22. So a would a vit C tab mushed up with water orrally be better then nothing if you thought your dog might have gotten tick poisoning?? Just on the way to the vet or somthing like that...
  23. Does it have to be injectible vit C? Can you use tablets?
  24. I would treat the cats if I could but my mum thinks there is no point. Well, really she thinks it will cost too much (with 3 cats its a lot). They don't even get vaccinated or wormed or anything but they are healthy. I would like to treat them though.
