  1. Silvawillow- I'm not entered in Hastings as I didn't want to enter two trials in a row just in case Croydon was a disaster. I ended up entering Knox but only novice agility and jumping. I think we will wait a bit before we try an games, just coz I need more practice and I'd need to watch them before I have a go.
  2. tollersowned- Yep that was me ;) It seems half of DOL was at croydon. I also spoke to Helen with Bella but I didn't mention DOL. Leopuppy- Abbie's novice agility run was much better then jumpers but I guess first run of the day is always gonna be a shocker. Our main problem is my parents, Abbie loves them too much and she thinks she should join them in watching me run around the ring waving my arms about and yelling crazy commands! Not sure if I should enter Knox and if I do should I try 3 runs?...Just looked at the vicagility website and they only have novice agility/jumping in the AM trial so that solves that problem...and I'm not about to try one of the games. eta: Well done to everyone else and their brags!
  3. Well not much of a brag but at the Croydon trial (yes we were there too :D ) Abbie didn't run out of the ring in novice agility! yay. She stuffed up her weaves as we haven't practiced 12 (only done 6 before) but I was so pleased that she didn't trot off to see my dad like she did in jumping It was also our first VCA trial so I didn't know how she was going to behave.
  4. I think I have almost convinced mum to let me go to a Four Paws herding clinic! So if all goes well we'll be there on 30th Sept!
  5. There is one in Mordialloc. Can't remember the address but it was not good. The jump bars cannot be displaced and the dog walk ramp is very steep and slippery. I wouldn't recommend it if you are looking into agility because it is not safe. As the others have said Kepala Park has agility although there is a cost ($6 for half and hour I think or if you come to a DOL meet there $15 for the day).
  6. I have! But I am yet to convince my mum to let me do more herding with Abbie. ;)
  7. MrsD- They had awards for each test class on the day, one from each judge then an overall prize. Well done to Cash on some lovely runs and passes and well done to Indi on her passes! Abbie had her first go at herding instinct test and passed under two judges so she now has her HIC! She also got the encouragement award for both judges and overall in the HIC class! When we first went in the ring she was more interested in eating sheep poo but when she saw the sheep it was like a light turned on and something clicked! Mum is a bit disappointed...now I want to go to more herding days!
  8. YAY!! I'm coming on Sunday! Look out for me and Abbie. Has anyone been to KCC recently? Is it still really muddy? I should dig out my old gum boots. For the stop can it be a stand, sit or drop? I've been getting Abbie to stop at a distance and she usually sits when I say stop but if she stops in a stand is that still ok? I can't wait!
  9. Clean Run Magazine!! I've also been told that Click and Play Agility by Angelica Steinker is very good but I haven't read it.
  10. Awesome! I'll send it tomorrow! How exciting! Thank you!!
  11. I filled out my entry form but I just want to check its ok and ask a few q's...for "Date of Fixture" do i write the date of the trial? At the bottom of the form (underneath my details) it says "Member of:" and "Club:" Is that just what obedience club I belong to? Does it matter if I leave it blank? For the "ENTERED IN" I crossed out obedience, agility and tracking and wrote "Herding: Instinct Test 1" is that right? and one more.... For "NAME OF EXHIBIT" do I write Abbies call name or registered name? I wrote registered but im just checking. Congrats on Rosies PT, Riles!
  12. Thank you so much indi dog and Riles!! I went through my VCA stuff and I found a trial entry form. I might ring Kate once I've sent the entry just to let her know that my entry was filled in by an entry form illiterate person See you guys at the trial!
  13. Oh Lordy, that was the hardest part, filling out the silly forms  Everyone made fun of me for ages because I kept getting them wrong ;) ;) I'll send you a pm tomorrow, as I'm off now Thanks ;) Thank you Indi Dog. I haven't entered any VCA trial (of any discipline) before so I don't know where to get the obedience forms. Are they on the VCA website? I have looked but I can't find them... I haven't done herding before with Abbie, although I think she will do fine. She doesn't need to have done herding before does she? After all it is an "instinct test". I should probably look at the rules...are they on the net? Thank you sooooo much!!!
  14. Where do I get the obedience form from? thanks
  15. Hello all! Well done everyone for the trial last weekend. I was there on Sat at about 12noon but I didn't stay long as they were about to break for lunch. I got to watch a few dogs do HT and it looks like fun! I have been wanting to enter a herding trial with Abbie for ages but I have only just got my VCA membership finalised now. How do I enter that Aussie Shepherd trial? I looked at this link but I don't know what to do...how do I write my entry? Do I just put Abbie's VCA no., my VCA no., what class I want to enter (Instinct test) and how much the entry fee is then include the entry fee? Thanks  edit coz i cant type..
  16. So before I enter say I ring the trial secretary, ask if there will be judges available to measure and if so then I can enter the trial and have her measured on the day? Thank you
  17. Hello fellow agility enthusiasts! After doing a couple of NADAC agility trials I have decided it's time to take the plunge and have a go at a VCA trial. Most of the membership paperwork is finalised but I haven't got Abbie measured by 2 (?) judges yet. So my question is; can I enter an agility trial before I have the height card for her, so long as I have it before the trial? Hope that makes sense. t(ad)pole edit to make title clearer...
  18. I will probably be coming- but just to watch. Do you know if I can bring my dog even though we are not entered? She would be on a lead at all times of course.
  19. I had another go...still not great...Kristie's Mitchi (a pic i took at kepala):
  20. I don't have photo shop but I managed to do this. Not very good but its only my first attempt.
  21. Oops...I just found the info from the net...maybe i should check it. I'll take down what I don't know for sure then. all fixed...thanks kelpiechick, i didn't really think before posting...maybe you should take down that quote just so people don't read the wrong info.
  22. Great idea Vickie. Should we add obedience and other dog sports clubs as well and maybe get it pinned? VICTORIA AGILITY DOG CLUB OF VICTORIA INC Karen Hollis P.O. 23. I use 2o2o contacts because I find its more reliable then just slowing the dog down over the contacts. I didn't use running contacts because I didn't have enough knowledge on how to teach this when I started training Abbie. I think, if taught properly then running contacts can be just as reliable. I originally taught Abbie to touch her nose on a small piece of wood then I placed it at the bottom of the obstacle and faded out. She doesn't do the nose touch any more because I have been lazy in reinforcing it but she still stops in the 2o2o pos. If the dog is taught to put the weight on his rear then it will not put much stress on their shoulders. However, if not taught properly at 2o2o on the Aframe will be damaging to their shoulders. How do you teach this? Peebs still plummets down the A-frame nearly going head over heels (or crawls down at a snails pace!) There is an article in this sample issue of Clean Run that talks a bit about this.
