Oh no Sending positive healing thoughts Astro's way ! *hugs* x -
You probably wont be but best not take the cav of lead if out and about as they don't have the best road sense.

Miah is like that when we first start taking her anywhere, its embarrassing, but hers is from excitement. She does calm down. Hers is not barking but more high pitch girly squealing.

Do Your Dogs Watch T.v. (videos, Etc.)
julesluvscavs replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
Joey used to yap excitedly at action /animal scenes on tv . I would often say to my husband i wonder what he'd do if a big animal came jumping out at the screen at him Renae's never been interested in tv at all, even before she went deaf. Miah loves watching tv, and will stare at it for ages very engrossed in whatever is on. I haven't heard her yapping or making noises at it yet. She loves watching you tube videos also :) -
We fed Joey and Renae raw bones throughout their lives but they still had teeth problems. Some breeds of dogs because of their mouth structure apparently can get teeth problems regardless (according to the canine dentist that we spoke too who worked on their teeth). We are hoping Miah's teeth might be different as shes got a longer snout than Joey and Renae

I've been giving Miah raw chicken frames since she was quite young, but suitable chew sizes to her age throughout that time.. always supervised. She's not had any issues *touch wood* Ive tried other raw bones, but haven't felt they were safe for her, I don't give our old Cavalier any raw bones now due to her age and not being able to chew properly anymore. When we took Miah for her first vet visit to our vets, the vet asked what we were going feed her. He of course tried to promote their balanced commercial food, but I said I wasn't interested as were going feed her a raw diet. He didn't persist but said well then becareful she doesn't get high calcium levels. I give her chicken frames 2 to 3 nights a week mostly on it own or with a small bowl of raw veges after. Ps Miah does get a few other options every so often now that aren't raw, but mostly its a raw diet she gets fed :)

I'm actually getting very teary going through this thread. Our oldies are just the best aren't they, so many precious memories of their lives with us

These posts and pics are so precious and beautiful ! Our Renae is almost 12 and she's really aging, has more since her son Joey left us She's always a been a super healthy dog apart from going deaf a few years back. She did have a serious liver condition earlier last year and the vet thought she might not live BUT she came good and still here with us . She's been having minor tremors and headshaking for a while (which is not uncommon in some older dogs) but we have noticed shes getting more frequent with them and shes started slipping on her legs just recently However some days shes still very much with it and can get up and down our bed (with a toy box and step) quite easily. Theres no sign of incontinence luckily but there are other sign of her aging we are not happy about. We count each day we have with her now. If things get worse and she cant stand properly, we will give her her wings. I notice every time we put her outside now for her toilet time etc, she will just keep looking around and barking. Shes never done that before without a reason. I hate that shes getting old but we are grateful we still have her at her age. She was such a pretty girl in her day (well she used to be a show girl) but shes showing all the sign of old age now, physically and mentally. Christmas a few years ago Last Christmas with Miah

Grieving Dogs - What Else Can I Do?
julesluvscavs replied to Kajtek's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm sorry to hear of your loss *gentle hugs* We lost our Joey last Sept. Miah came to terms with it very quickly but then she had only known him since Feb of that year. Renae on the other hand, as she was Joey's Mum and had been with him for most of his life, has had trouble coping at times, hasn't helped shes had her own issues going on with her health mostly due to her getting older. She used to want to go outside all the time and just look around and would come back in looking bit sad and disappointed. It was lucky I was around to at home to give her lots of comfort, and it was good that we had young Miah to hang around with Renae and give her some distraction. Until very recently Renae hasn't wanted to go into Joey and her crate they shared, and when she has she often licks the wires, she must be able to still smell his scent in it? Its a very emotional time to go through, for us and our other dogs. -

I used to go to Klever Kanine obedience school in Mount Barker years ago and belonged to their other branch in Banksia park for many years :) http://www.kleverkanine.com/ I used to work in Hahndorf but all those areas scared me because of the high fire risk during the Summer months. TBH i'm glad i'm not living in those areas now as beautiful as they are. -
