We have been having the worse time atm with fleas on both the dogs and cats !!!!!!!! Arghhhhhhhhhhhh We have bought capstar, washed them in a flea rinse, sprayed a flea spray on our bedding, lounge everywhere !!, washed everything in hot water. Yet to do the flea bombing , just that I am very reactive to chemicals, and I'm around the house heaps. So finding the right time to get it done is very difficult !! I've not encountered such a horrible time with fleas in many years like now ! It seems to very wides spread atm going by this thread and other stuff I have read around the place! I feel so bad seeing them scratch all the time, and they biting me too !!! Hate them so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And to think we have been regularly treating them all with front line spray for months now, and paying heaps for nothing !!! :nahnah:

I've been so lucky. In all the years I have owned cross breds (from shelters), and the last 5 years of owning purebreds, I have never had people say anything about what I own! I've read similar threads to this one over the years on DOL, and I'm so surprised people get judged so much! The only thing that sometimes occasionally get brought up in conversation is that purebreds arn't always that healthy, because of their genetic issues that quite a few of the breeds have..but I think that's probably just their way of trying to justify their DD and BYB dogs? My parents were GSD breeders, and I don't think any one every questioned their choices that I know of or called them snobs.. I think that's weird why people would call you a snob for owning a Purebred dog !

Crisover, (or anyone else who is around) DH has gone to shops now to get some of those capstar flea tablets for dogs and the cats.. I'm going to order the Fido's Fre-Itch Rinse Concentrate that Aziah highly recommended, so when I get it (not sure how long it will take?), can i go from using Capstar tablets to using the fre itch wash stuff? can you double on up using too many flea products?? and while treating the fleas, then what do you use for actual flea allergy side of to sooth them after they have been bitten to calm it down..do I need another product for that also?? ps.. DH bought some flea bombs too, but we may not let it all of at once, as I have sensitivities to chemicals, and I'm home most of the time...

To All You Fellow Dog Owners - Do You Also Own A Cat?
julesluvscavs replied to Abigail's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi Abigail We have a Ragdoll cat which loves Joey to bits, and visa versa, and a part Maine Coon cat, which keeps to herself most of the time, but gets along with the Cavs:) They are generally quite respectful of each other. Joey and Leroy -

Does Your Oh Allow Your Dog/s To Sleep On The Bed?
julesluvscavs replied to Abigail's topic in General Dog Discussion
My DH wouldn't have it any other way! LOL Most nights our Joey loves being snuggled up in DH's arms (I miss out , but that's cool. the honeymoon period is mostly over with now lol ) ;-) Not only we have both Cavs sleeping on our bed at night, one cat sleeps on the bed as well, and the other one usually on DH's bedside cupboard next to him lol I regularly wash our bedding ! On occasions it can get in the way when DH and I want some snuggle time, but the Cavs sleep very deeply once they get to sleep My DH wasn't really brought up with animals, so going from no pets to lots of pets has been a major change for him, but he loves our animals ! Oh and Renae often sits at the kitchen table with us (but we don't allow her to eat from the table, only can sit with us) -
Yeah I will then Both Cavs are well under 11kg, the cats might not be tho!
-
Thank you so much Crisover ! I will get on to it asap ! Is the capstar tabs ok for adult cats too? altho they appear to be ok atm *touch wood*

ps Another question (my apologies if it's already been said), is there any garden plants that I can grow around the garden to deter fleas (bear in mind we live in a coastal town) ?? I've got some citronella growing because of the mozzies here ..
-
They are out of control atm- the fleas on the Cavs grrrr . I'm going to order that stuff Aziah suggested earlier ASAP ! I feel like all those frontline sprays I have been getting done regularly, and paying heaps for at the vet have been useless ! Grrrrr maybe it would be worse tho if i hadn't been getting them done ? I'm tempted to go down to the supermarket today (being that is Sunday and vets aren't open) and grab something in desperation just for the time being ! Any product I should avoid?

Any of the aloe vera or tea-tree salves. The spots don't usually itch very long, main thing is of course not to scratch them! Thank you Katdogs ! I have got some aloe vera plants growing but they are still very young.

Is it ok if we have our RB page link in our signature here in DOL?? I think I've seen others on here with it ? I have added my RB page url in here back a few pages.. I thought I would start being more active on there. I don't have heaps of my photos on there atm as I lost most of my original photo files a while back when my last laptop's hardrive died, and I hadn't back anything up -
Awwwww what a cutie !! Hopefully you will be able to find his owner soon! I found a beautiful Husky the other day on our driveway. Luckily he had a collar on him with 'Runnaway' and his owner's no on it. I rang the number and they were able to come around straight away to collect him. Had they not been home, I don't know what I would have done? As it was I had to attach a rope to his collar.(which he then started howling!) It is lovely of you and your OH to be temporary looking after him OM !

Also while on the this subject, what can we use for ourselves if we get bitten and suffer with itchiness after??
-

Oh ok... eeek! Where do u get the Fido's from ?? is that the full name of it.. can u show me an image of what it looks like ?? thanks

I've been having it sprayed on all the pets done by the vet (I can't be around the smell).. We haven't had any issues with fleas on any of our pets for years (except when Karma out cat disappeared, when she came back she had fleas) So all has been ok until recently until we moved here into our new place. We suspect both Cavs have a flea allergy from being bitten at some stage (can't see any on them!) I've washed them a couple times with their shampoo (avoleen) and a flea shampoo, but they are still scratching heaps! We live near the sea (and a river), and my Mum was telling me such areas are known for more bugs/feas/mozzies... not sure if that's true ? but they are being attacked here, unlike last place ! The vet did tell us that fleas can be buried under the dirt , and if you disturb it (which we have), thats when it can cause problems too! I have brought a flea spray for around the house, and for their bedding (but I have to becareful with chemicals because of my fibro condition) I am trying to grow some citronella plants to put around the outside of the house (even tho its more for the mozzies) So reading this thread with interest what to do ??? Its annoying !!!
